Greetings! I'm happy to be sharing my little unknown citrus cutting's transition into a bonsai tree here on this community for the first time! I'm relatively new to bonsai so advice is much appreciated.
This cutting was planting in its tiny pot on September 12, 2020. It was taken from a larger tree that I keep in a pot and move inside and outside throughout the year. I hope it will flower one day so that we can confirm that it is sweetlime.
Anyways, back to the miniature one. Here is what it looked like at the end of last summer, next to its bigger clone sibling.
This is what it looks like now.
It has dropped a few old leaves already, including the original one that I cut in half in order to mitigate transpiration. Roots are also starting to come out of the drainage hole.
This is what the root system looked like.
It should ideally have a nice radial root system, so I have to prune severely. Since there were no branches to prune (yet) I think this little tree will recover quickly.
Then after trimming some long roots and others where two were growing from one place, along with other refinements, I was left with this.
Hopefully, the roots will grow with an even amount of vigor. This looks like the beginnings of a fine root system that I will eventually be able to 'rake' with a fork.
I planted it in a clay rectangle that I had drilled a hole in. I found the container at an estate sale. The wide side facing us it's meant to be the front for now, I think. I will be keeping this one indoors until it is established; it could dry out outside. As for the other siblings, they are not quite ready for updates or work yet. Maybe later.
That's all the excitement this little one will be having for a while. Thanks for stopping by!
