My Actifit Report Card and Update: July 22 2022

Hi Everyone,

I've been busy since my previous Actifit Report and Update. I've completed 2 long posts and I've almost finished painting the exterior of the house.

The weather this week has been great. It has been sunny, warm, and dry, which is rare in the UK. It's normally a couple of nice weeks a year if we are lucky. It provided an opportunity to continue working outside. Earlier in the week, we did some work in the courtyard. We moved some earth and sand around while in the process of building a giant planter. Yesterday, was the most active day as my sister and I painted a large portion of the exterior of the house. It was tough going as it is difficult painting over pebble dash. Putting tape on the pebble dash was very difficult as it kept peeling off. Painting inside was much easier. I don't expect to be painting outside again for many more years. Will include some photos in the next report.

In London, the temperatures climbed into the high 30s (degrees Celsius) for two days (Monday and Tuesday). The media made such a fuss over the mini heatwave. The doomsday talk never ends. On Tuesday, there were many fires all over different parts of London. I'm guessing most of these were set intentionally. Buildings were burning and most of the nearby tress, bushes, and grass were unharmed. The plants looked too green and the wind wasn't strong enough for fires to spread. It doesn't appear anyone has been arrested yet. Should know in the coming days.

My Content

In my first post, I discussed our relationship with animals and freedom. In my second post, I discussed our relationship with our environment. The two post have connected themes and I would recommend reading them together.

Animals_THUMB.jpg

Humans are animals. It is a concept that most of us are aware of but most of us act like we are considerably superior. This is mostly based on how we express intelligence. The majority of mammals and birds are kept in captivity. Most of them suffer because of this captivity. Animals are intended by nature to be free. However, we have overbred certain species (farm animals) and altered their genetics through breeding. It is impossible to grant them immediate freedom even if we wanted. Instead, we should gradually move away from holding them in captivity. It is a long road ahead.

Environment_THUMB.jpg

We treat the environment with the same contempt as the animals that live in it. We pollute the air, water, and land with our waste and by-products. Other species of animals suffer from this behaviour. Governments are causing considerable damage to the ozone layer with weapons testing (nuclear weapons) and geoengineering. Vehicles travelling in and through the stratosphere are causing damage with their emissions.

Humans believe they can control the environment. This is true to a certain extent but the environment is strongly affected by the sun and what happens in space between the sun and the earth. These events can raise or lower temperatures in different places as well as change the pattern of weather. These changes can be severe. To thrive in the long-run, people will need to adapt. We are part of nature.

That brings this week's Actifit Report to an end. I wish everyone a great weekend. If the weather is fine, don't miss your opportunities to enjoy it.
