The Battle for Steem and Actifit Report: March 5 2020

Hi Everyone,

I am back with another Thursday Actifit Report. I did my shopping one day early again (shopping days are high count days). I hope to change back to Friday next week. Nothing new or different to describe in terms of my counts.

Battle for Steem

This has been a crazy week for the whole Steem Community. I wrote about some of the events in my post 'We have an amazing community'. So just to quickly recap the events of this week.

  • Steemit replaced all witnesses with puppet accounts.
  • Steemit used newly powered up stake from exchanges to gain initial control as voting rights had been removed from major Steemit accounts.
  • Two of the three exchanges removed support for the Steemit witnesses after the Steemit voting rights had been returned. However, they have not started to power down their stake.
  • The Steem community got behind the original Steem witnesses and managed to return several of them to the top 20.
  • An account representing the Korean Communities voting stake supported all 20 of Steemit's puppet witnesses. After discussions with witnesses, they decided to also support several of the original witnesses.
  • Many Steemit employees resigned based on the actions of the new Steemit owner (Justin Sun).
  • Justin posted on Steem making demands of witnesses and offering possible support with his Steem stake if they were willing to comply. Most witnesses did not succumb to these demands.
  • Several discussions with witnesses as well as the Korean Community have occurred off-chain.
  • As it stands about half the top 20 witnesses remain as Steemit puppets.

I am very proud of how the community has responded to this hostile takeover attempt. It really shows how passionate the community is about maintaining the values of our ecosystem.

This battle is far from over. The exchanges are still powered up and there are a few groups trying to playoff each side with their demands. I hope that ends soon. The coming weeks will be interesting.

I managed to put out another post since my previous Actifit Report. This post contains two videos about Steem communities. One videos describes how to use them in Steempeak and the other in Steemit. The post also contains a write up describing the features of communities from both user interfaces as well as several screenshots providing more information. I recommend that you take a look at this post.

That brings me to the end of this Actifit Report. I wish you all a great weekend. Just in case you have not, remember to support our Steem witnesses, particularly those outside the top 20. It would be great to push out all Steemit puppet accounts.
