My Actifit Report Card: February 15 2021 - 17K ruck

Wow, heatwave! Sun was out and the temp was above -10... great day for a ruck!

The temp got up above -10 today. Almost felt like spring, especially with the sun 🌞 blazing down!

Managed to get out and do a 17K(10.5 mi) ruck with a 23k(50lbs) load.

We just had a new snowfall so the trails were a bit rough and it was super slushy. Made for some slippery traction (well none actually - was slipping everywhere.) Huge impact on my pace.

It dawned on me that a lot of folks may not know what rucking is. I started rucking in the military. Essentially it's hiking but with a load. Believe it or not it's a full body workout and if done right it's an amazing workout. It's something that anyone can do. And you don't have to be in the military to do it.

If you are interested in rucking, anyone can do it, check out this podcast: Get Rucking

It covers:

  • The long history of rucking
  • How Josh discovered rucking as a workout option
  • How the military uses rucking today
  • Why rucking is a great form of exercise for citizens of all stripes
  • Rucking in a group, in the midst of a pandemic
  • How much weight should you start out with?
  • Walking form when carrying a load
  • Getting rucking into the rest of your exercise/workout planning
  • Strength-training exercises you can do with a weighted rucksack

So, I racked up a good step count. But, the day did not end there...

Ended off shoveling

We've been working on the rink and it needed shoveling. Luckily the snow was light so it didn't take long. The boys and I have been working on it for the past week. Time to skate soon... it's looking good.

Well that's it for this week...

Stay safe, stay healthy and stay active
