Arsenals midfield has been lacking since santi and Ramsey left and it has never really recovered with Partey we had one part of the puzzle fixed but the other never really clicked yet
I would like to think Lakonga is the closest thing we have to a partner for Partey but his young and still raw. Having watched him this season he looks really promising and the talent is there he just needs to work on some parts of his game
Making the midfield your own
Namely his positional sense and awareness he tends to drift a lot and that isn’t maybe punished in the Belgian league but in the premier league it can cost you big time!
He needs to learn when to press and when to sit back, when his closing too much distance with his partner in midfield and when to come short to receive the ball this will come with time and Mikel will need to drill this into him
Bulking up
If his going to be a force in the midfield he needs to build up some muscle he is still getting muscled and the EPL is not going to do you any favours
Getting some meat on that frame will also help him in tackles as well as driving runs into the midfield
Working as a pair
Mikel is set on a 4-2-3-1 and with that mean the 2 need to work as a pair to drop into the back 4 when full backs push forward to provide a screen for the center backs and to know when to push up and join in the attack
Partey seems the more expressive of the 2 so he will probably be the one on the front foot but if Niles plays he seems more likely to sit back so Lokonga will need to apart to the different partners he will have throughout the season
Have your say
