IN ELECTORAL MATTERS, LET'S MOVE FROM WHATSAPP TO SOCIAL NETWORKS.

Since 2008, with Barack Obama's election campaign, the massive and different use of social networks has been a milestone in political communication. Since then, many candidates have been understanding the need to have a presence and an efficient use of social networks. However, we still find candidates and militants of political organizations that do not understand the importance of their use to position a candidacy.

Candidates and politicians in general should improve their level of studies and update the conceptualization of digital democracy. Leave aside the famous phrase "you have to throw them balls" in allusion that candidates only have to walk or attend marathon meetings of alliances where usually the political actors are dedicated to give long speeches of diagnoses and describe all the bad things about the situation but do not pronounce a single sentence on how to solve the situation of the country.
Researchers have established that "The new cyberspaces are defined as a new conception of the public sphere, as a place of information, contestation, organization, discussion and political struggle (Kellner, 2000). But let us not be confused, not only by having a presence in social networks and posting messages, we are communicating, and much less are we promoting electoral participation.

Another scenario where this diagnostic behavior or good intentions without actions is being replicated is whatsapp.
This text messaging application is a valuable tool for a campaign team. Whatsapp through its groups or broadcast lists allows transmitting information in a fast and direct way to thousands of people. However, it should be noted that its impact is limited to the scope of the number of contacts of each group member. Therefore, creating changes in the public sphere requires great dedication and combining it with other social networks.

Whatsap groups for commercial marketing or election campaign purposes should be understood for the nature and purpose for which they were created. Many political actors complain that these groups take up a lot of their time and consume their megabytes. But nobody is dedicated to establish rules or conditions of use, and much less to point out when someone publishes topics not in accordance with the group the first thing they think, "he is a fellow can be annoyed".
At the time of establishing or incorporating someone should be clear about the following:

  1. It is a group to receive information, instructions and strategies of the Electoral Marketing.
  2. If you are incorporated into the group, it is because you accept the goals and objectives of the group.
  3. The language must be in accordance with the norms of courtesy. However, it is not a club for friends, religious purposes or hobbies.
  4. The feed back should be related to the messages disseminated.
  5. Discussions, analysis and judgments about the strategies will take place in the analysis groups, sometimes we spend more time in finding out who said or did what instead of disseminating.

With these premises in mind we must combine the WhatsApp group with other social networks.
In this opportunity I am going to refer to the use of twitter as a fundamental tool for the creation of the public sphere of our candidates.

The various studies carried out by the most important universities in the world show that Twitter is the social network that most mobilizes citizens to participate in political issues of their society and above all it encourages the undecided to take sides for an option. The recently concluded electoral race in Peru had a marked influence of social networks despite skeptics pointed out that a large part of that country is rural and poor.

To have a successful presence on this massive social network, the campaign team must accompany the candidate's twittering efforts. One stick does not make a mountain, as the old saying goes.
It is vital that each member of a command or of an electoral WhatsApp group commits to retweet information at least 20 times a day so that the search algorithms can position the candidate. The real creator of political realities, the center of discussion of our development approach is twitter.

Stop being a warrior of private WhatsApp groups and go out to fight in the public spheres. We say the wonders internally, if they are not said in social networks they are of little use.
