Ruda Śląska
Miasto powstało 1 stycznia 1959 r. z połączenia miast Ruda i Nowy Bytom. Największą populację Ruda Śląska odnotowała w 1991 r., kiedy według danych GUS miasto zamieszkiwało 171 645 mieszkańców. Od lat 90. liczba mieszkańców systematycznie spada. 30 czerwca 2020 r. liczba ludności wynosiła 137 030 mieszkańców.
The city was founded on January 1, 1959 as the merger of the cities of Ruda and Nowy Bytom. The largest population of Ruda Śląska was recorded in 1991, when, according to GUS data, the city was inhabited by 171,645 inhabitants. Since the 1990s, the number of inhabitants has been systematically declining. On June 30, 2020, the population was 137,030 inhabitants.

Rynek i okolice | Market square and surroundings
Rynek Rudy Śląskiej to plac Jana Pawła II z potężną neoromańską bazyliką, otoczony z jednej strony urokliwymi kamienicami, a z drugiej modernistycznym molochem.
The city centre is John Paul II Square with a huge neo-Romanesque basilica, surrounded on one side by charming tenement houses and on the other by a modernist huge buildings.
Szczerze mówiąc, bardzo nie lubię tego placu. Sam beton! Spójrzcie tylko, jak kiedyś wyglądał...

Kolonia robotnicza Ficinus | Ficinus workers' colony
Zespół szesnastu piętrowych domów robotniczych z 1867 r. zbudowanych dla pracowników kopalni węgla kamiennego „Gottessegen” („Błogosławieństwo Boże”). Jest to jedno z najstarszych osiedli tego typu na Górnym Śląsku. Domki są murowane, wybudowane z piaskowca. Kolonia w 2006 r. znalazła się na Szlaku Zabytków Techniki wiodącym po najciekawszych obiektach zabytkowych związanych z przemysłem województwa śląskiego.
A complex of sixteen-story workers' houses from 1867 built for the workers of the coal mine "Gottessegen" ("God's blessing"). It is one of the oldest housing estates of this type in Upper Silesia. The houses are brick, built of sandstone. In 2006, Cologne was included on the Industrial Monuments Route, which leads through the most interesting historic buildings related to the industry of the Silesian Voivodeship.
Osiedle Kaufhaus i Wielki Piec Huty Pokój | The Kaufhaus estate and the Great Furnace of Huta Pokój
Osiedle robotnicze pracowników huty „Pokój”, założone w XIX w. i później rozbudowane. W centrum znajduje się monumentalny dom handlowy, tzw. Kaufhaus, od którego nazwę wzięło całe osiedle.
A workers' housing estate of the workers of the steelworks, established in the 19th century and later expanded. In the center there is a monumental department store, called Kaufhaus, from which the whole estate took its name.
Nieopodal znajduje się Wielki Piec Huty Pokój - wpisany do rejestru zabytków, obecnie należący do Miasta Ruda Śląska, które przeprowadziło międzynarodowy konkurs architektoniczny na projekt jego adaptacji na cele kulturalne (przedsięwzięcie czeka na realizację). W 2020 r. obiekt został wpisany na Europejski Szlak Dziedzictwa Przemysłowego - ERIH (European Route of Industrial Heritage).
Nearby, there is the Great Furnace of Huta Pokój - enlisted in the register of monuments, currently belonging to the City of Ruda Śląska, which conducted an international architectural competition for a project of its adaptation for cultural purposes (the project is pending)). In 2020, the facility was entered on the European Route of Industrial Heritage - ERIH.
Dworzec Chebzie | Chebzie Railway Station
Dworzec kolejowy (z przełomu XIX i XX w.); obiekt posiada charakterystyczną elewację w formie pseudo muru pruskiego, obecnie jest to siedziba Miejskiej Biblioteki Publicznej w Rudzie Śląskiej (Stacja Biblioteka).
Railway station (from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries); the building has a characteristic facade in the form of a pseudo-half-timbered wall, now it is the seat of the Municipal Public Library in Ruda Śląska (Library Station).
Góra Antonia
Zrewitalizowany teren po pocynkowej hałdzie to najważniejszy park na Trakcie Rudzkim. Dzięki dotacji unijnej stara hałda stała się miejscem do wypoczynku (są tu ławki, leżaki, stanowiska grillowe oraz plac zabaw i zjazd saneczkowy) czy do spaceru czy jazdy na rowerze, dzięki licznym tablicom można się dowiedzieć nieco o roślinach rosnących na górze, o hucie cynku, która się tu znajdowała czy o samym Wirku. Ze szczytu hałdy widać panoramę dzielnicy, a przy dobrej pogodzie nawet Beskidy.
The revitalized area after the post-zinc dump is the most important park on the "Ruda Route". Thanks to the EU subsidy, the old heap has become a place to relax (there are benches, deckchairs, barbecue stands, a playground and a toboggan run) or for walking or cycling, and thanks to numerous boards you can learn a bit about the plants growing on the spot, about the zinc smelter that was here, or about Wirk surroundings. From the top of the heap, you can see the district's panorama, and in good weather, even the Beskids.
Piekarok | Bread oven
Piekaroki, nazywane też piekarniokami, były nieodłącznym elementem osiedli XIX-wiecznych familoków, czyli robotniczych domów. Przy wypieku chleba integrowały się lokalne społeczności.
Ostatni zachowany w Rudzie Śląskiej piekarok powstał około 1900 roku i działał do lat 50. ubiegłego wieku. Składa się z przedsionka i pieca. Gdy przestał służyć do wypieku chleba, urządzono w nim hodowlę królików; prawdopodobnie tylko dzięki temu się zachował.
Bread ovens - bakeries, were an inseparable element of the estates of 19th-century workers' houses. Local communities integrated around it when baking bread.
The last bakery preserved in Ruda Śląska was established around 1900 and operated until the 1950s. It consists of a vestibule and a stove. When it was no longer used for baking bread, it was used as a breeding ground for rabbits; it was probably the only reason it survived.

Z pałacu oraz domu najsłynniejszego rudzkiego przedsiębiorcy została w zasadzie tylko "kamieni kupa", co nie zmienia faktu, że jest to ciekawe miejsce spacerowe czy miła stacja postojowa podczas wycieczki rowerowej po mieście.
From the Ballestrem Palace and the house of the most famous entrepreneur in Ruda, only a pile of stones is left, which does not change the fact that it is an interesting walking place or a nice stopover during a bicycle trip around the city.
Banhof
O tym miejscu wspominam tylko dlatego, że lubię taką adaptację starych obiektów przemysłowych. Banhof to stary kochłowicki dworzec, przerobiony na pizzerię, w której serwują naprawdę dobrą pizzę.
I only mention this place because I like such an adaptation of old industrial facilities. Banhof is an old train station in Kochłowice, turned into a pizzeria where they serve really good pizza.
Przyroda | Nature
Oprócz powyższego mamy w mieście dużo lasów i terenów zielonych, w tym i wspominaną już przeze mnie wielokrotnie Dolinę Kochłówki - raj dla miłośników ptaków. I to jest tak naprawdę to, co sprawia, że w tym mieście przyjemnie się żyje :)
In addition to the above, there are a lot of forests and green areas in the city, including the already mentioned by me many times Kochłówka Valley - a paradise for bird lovers. And this is really what makes this city pleasant to live in :)
