Yup, I Love Them Too!

Hey! This is my first post in here and I'm pretty excited! Why? Because I love the Backstreet Boys!

I actually was searching on Hive to see if there was a community created for them already because if not, I was going to create it!

I've been following BSB Army on Twitter for awhile (I'm not sure if that's the same creators as this group) but either way, I'll wear that title with a smile!

(Me meeting AJ on the This Is Us tour, 2009)

I'm 38 years old and have been a fan of the Backstreet Boys since 1998. Yup. That long! My fandom has evolved, as I'm sure yours has too. I mean, I'm no longer 14 with wall to wall posters of them...and much to the chagrin of my 14 year old self, I no longer believe or wish to marry Kevin (my husband is happy to hear that!)

The story of how I became a fan is actually kind of funny though and it DOES go back to when I was 14 and in grade 9 French class. A friend of mine at the time, Nicky, was obsessed with Nick Carter. Her name was actually Nicole but she went by Nicky to be like him!

The Backstreet Boys were going to be in our city (I lived near Toronto at the time) that night for a live performance on Much Music (corner of Queen and John at the time). It was a show called Intimate & Interactive and Nicky did not have a VCR. Yes, THAT long ago that I am bringing up VCR's haha...but I digress.... She had asked me if I would tape it for her. Of course I said yes....

Since it was a Friday night and I didn't have anything else to do...I watched it. Then I watched it again (because I had recorded it!)....and then I watched it again. Over and over and over....I was hooked.

On Monday, I told Nicky that my VCR broke. Yes, I lied. Sorry Nicky....

Still to this day, in my garage, packed away, I have about 27 VHS tapes of BSB footage and on the very first tape is their Intimate & Interactive performance on Much Music.

I'll write more on the impact they had on my life in another post but that is when I was introduced to BSB and became a huge fan.

Fun Fact - The song that I played over and over from that performance was Hey Mr. DJ. I played that dang performance so much that my Mom said if she heard it one more time that she would throw the tape out. I just remember thinking that the song was so cool and they looked so smooth doing the dances and before I knew it, I knew all the words!

It's actually kind of funny looking at these photos and thinking back. I had been to a ton of concerts before this and I never ever had the chance to meet them. I was never someone who could afford VIP or backstage passes so it was not even something I even thought of happening. What are the chances? (Current BSB music plug there!) As we pulled up the venue, for some reason, the buses were on the front side of the building. Anyone who goes to concerts knows that typically the buses are at the back! I remember thinking, "That's strange..."

As we walked towards the building, I stopped in my tracks and said to my sister, "That's AJ!!!!" ....the next thing I knew, I was taking a photo with him. Now, I'm 26 at the time of this happening so I'm trying really hard to maintain composure but inside, I peed a little! Just saying!
