Panorama of Reservoir

Yesterday's trip directed my feet to a 1,053 hectare reservoir. This reservoir is located in the Indrapuri area, Aceh Besar, a district that is part of the Aceh region, and is on the island of Sumatra.

This reservoir is one of the sub-watersheds of the Krueng Aceh watershed which has a large enough water potential to increase the supply of raw water for the Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar areas.

This reservoir also supplies water for Krueng Aceh and Krueng Jreue extension irrigation. In addition, water from the reservoir also supports the improvement of rainfed rice fields. The reservoir has two parts; downstream and upstream. The upstream area is only 578.20 Ha. Meanwhile, in the downstream area, the reservoir area reaches 1,053 hectares.

The springs from these mountains are now a natural habitat for freshwater fish and the surrounding wildlife. Some local livestock even use this reservoir as a place to find food, such as a herd of buffalo swimming to the island in the middle of the reservoir to get fresh grass there.

The Keliling Reservoir is 35 km from the city center of Banda Aceh. This large dam is the first reservoir built in Aceh since 2000, and was completed in 2008. The reservoir has a capacity of approximately 17 million cubic meters, with an inundation area of 228 hectares and a water catchment area of 38.20 Km².[]
