Beer Tasting: Varionica Pale Ale and Paulaner Salvator

Hello, beer tasters! 🍻 😎 🍻

It’s been raining, warm, humid, and windy here all day. There is no panic, but you have nothing to look for outside in such weather, even though it is summer.

Regardless, I put two new beers in the fridge that I will try when they cool down.

I occasionally do a tour of the local shops and these two are from the local Mercator. I haven’t seen them yet, so, now’s the chance!

Varionica Pale Ale

Brewed by Varionica craft brewery, Pisarovina, Croatia. Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.2% ABV. Pale Ale beer, they say:

A beer of rich taste, fruity aroma, and amber color was made with a specially selected combination of malts and American varieties of hops. Additional dry hops emphasize the freshness of hops and the aroma of citrus and pine.

Ok, this looks like an ad, but for this beer, in 2020 they got Double Gold Medal in The European Beer Challenge in London. These are no longer jokes.

The first sip was as described. I immediately felt the rich taste and bitterness of the hops with the aroma of citrus and pine. This taste and pronounced freshness of the hops lasted all the time and also aftertaste.

Excellent pale ale, no doubt. I understand why they got the award.
Definitely one of the best beers I’ve tasted lately. I must have to get another few for the fridge.

Paulaner Salvator

Brewed by Paulaner Brauerei, Munich, Germany. Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 7.9% ABV.
It's Doppelbock style which means that's rich and strong, very malty, dark colored German lager.

I read that Paulaner monks serve Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. It's an original recipe by Brother Barnabas who lead the Paulaner monastery brewery from 1773.
Amazing. It will be a specialty.

Clear brown color with a light brown head. A wealth of aromas in the first sip. Caramel, honey, banana, roasted malt. Sweeter and slightly bitter. All very well balanced.
Very drinkable and refreshing, although with high alcohol content. Too bad I only have one bottle :(

Paulaner is a world-famous beer brand and it has justified its name here as well. I would have this beer in the fridge but I know it would disappear very quickly.
Even the previous beer, Varionica Pale Ale was top-notch. Best to congratulate me for such a good choice :)
