Beer Tasting: Pedigree Amber Ale and Cumberland Golden Beer

Hello, beer tasters! 🍺 🍻 😎 🍻 🍺

I thought I would fail again this week. I have to admit that the last two weeks have not been the most successful in my life, in fact, when shit starts happening bad events follow one after the other and so, to finish quickly, last Thursday I ended up in hospital with a broken leg. I had my last beer a few days before that. :(

But, 200 #beersaturday is a nice round number to remember and of course to celebrate.

How will we celebrate? With beer, of course. After 10 days of stagnation, I'm going to have two beers on this anniversary.

Marston's Pedigree Amber Ale

Brewed by Marston's, Staffordshire, England. Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.5% ABV. It's Bottle-conditioned Amber Ale beer. What's with the bottle conditioning?

Bottle-conditioned beers contain live yeast, which smooths and enhances the depth of flavor of the beer over time. The maturing process from the yeast also means the flavor is much closer to the beer you'd taste in the pub. (ticker from bottle).

The beer is light and clear brown with very little head. In the first sip, I tasted a slight roastiness of the barley and sweetness of the honey, but only slightly, and bitterness of the hops which slowly increased and started to dominate even aftertaste.
Quite OK once you get used to it. Too bad because I only have one :(
The taste reminds me of my first visits to pubs around London when I was just starting to learn about English beers. It deserves a place in my fridge.

Cumberland Golden Beer

Brewed by Jennings Brewery, Cockermouth, England. Bottle 0.5 l, alcohol 4% ABV.
It's a Bitter style beer which means that it's low alcohol levels and low carbonation easy-drinking session beer.

The beer is light amber-brown, the head is average but disappears quickly. The first sip is somewhat undefined, there is no hop bitterness, maybe somewhere in the background, light grassy malty notes prevail throughout. There is some hop bitterness in the aftertaste, but not enough for me.

Yes, I admit I expected more from both (especially since I haven't tried any alcohol for 10 days... but let's leave it at that...), but I noticed that both Marston's and Jennings are owned by Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Co. I definitely prefer the first one with its distinct bitterness.
