Beer Tasting: Landgang Pils and Perlenzauber IPA

Hello, beer tasters! 🍻 😎 🍻

What's up? We're running to autumn, beers no longer need to be so cold, freshness is coming to the forefront and only now we'll be able to feel and taste good beer. Well, at least I think so.

I have two beers in front of me again, and luckily, it's #beersaturday so I can have a few minutes to myself. Let's see where we are!

🍻 😎 🍻

Landgang Pils

land2.jpg

Brewed by Landgang Brauerei, Hamburg, Germany. Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV. It's a Pilsener style, light-bodied, bottom-fermented German beer with a floral hop aroma.
They say:

Hamburg's beer tradition is closely linked to the Hanseatic League. Beer was exported from Hamburg as early as 500 years ago. We brew this Pilsner as a reminder of this important part of Hamburg's history.

Nice, something traditional again. I always wonder how they enjoyed a beer in the past. If the recipes are preserved then it just means that it's good and that nothing needs to be changed.

The beer is clear yellow in colour with a good and persistent head. It flows smoothly down the throat, the hop bitterness is sufficient and very well balanced with the malt sweetness and floral flavours.
All the flavours linger in the mouth for quite some time and only slowly fade away.
A real surprise!

I have to admit that I didn't expect such a good pilsner from Hamburg. Rather from Bavaria, which even has protected and specially designated export regions (Helles/Dortmunder Export).

I could easily have it in the fridge, not only to offer to guests but also for myself. Ugh, it will be difficult. The online shop says they only sell it in Germany :(

Perlenzauber IPA

land6.jpg

Brewed by commercial brewery Privatbrauerei Egerer, Pilsting, Bavaria, Germany. Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 6.0% ABV. Ok, let's taste this German IPA.

The beer is clear orange in colour and the head is average. I smell hops in the first sip, expecting a pronounced hop bitterness as in all the IPAs I've had, but this bitterness is nowhere to be found. I can taste the sweetness of the malt, some fruit and caramel flavours too, but the hop bitterness is very discreet.
It doesn't strike me as an IPA, more like a Pale Ale.

But OK. Beer is drinkable and refreshing, I agree, but it's not IPA, at least not for me. I think of an IPA as a distinctly bitter beer with strong fruit flavours, usually tropical. This beer is far from that. I wonder what the Americans and the British will say about it, because by their website, as I read it, it's intended for export, mainly to the US and the UK. Hmm... exporting IPAs to the land of IPA beers? I don't know if that can end well ...

But again, the beer is quite decent, very okay, even better than all those industrial brews the big breweries offer us, the only thing is that the label could be different. This Perlenzauber is an excellent Pale Ale if you ask me.

🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to as I write this? Again, something from my last #newtunes post.
