Mexican Murals - A Lovely Vista of Chapultepec Castle [CCC's Street Art Contest #24]

Is it too late to submit an entry for CCC's Street Art Contest #24? I hope not, since the winners are usually announced on Sunday (and it's still Saturday for most of us).

The mural I would like to show today is a very simple, yet pretty one. It's a bit of a city-scape, albeit a very green and park-like one, offering a beautiful view of Chapultepec Park in Mexico City, with the Chapultepec Castle towering imposingly over the hill.

It is actually located just by one of the entrances to the park, on the busy corner of Ave. Constituyentes and Ave. Chapultepec. You could even assume that the wall is offering the exact view you would have it wasn't blocking it... but that is not the case. Not exactly. The actual castle is a good twenty degrees to the left, hidden behind trees.

Still, the way the image is split in two, framed by two alcoves, makes it seem like the viewer is looking out from a building, or right through it. Also, the painted trees in the picture and the real plants in the little triangle in front of it, make a visually interesting mix.

The short little fence around this island of plants could easily be stepped over. Still, it seems to be sufficient to protect the mural from unwanted tags, such as the one just to its right. This mural also is a bit unusual as it seems to have been painted with brushes. Though there is no way of knowing who painted it, or how long it has been up, as there is no signature anywhere, or any other information.
