So, what are the activities there at Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam? Let's find out with me!

give cake to loved ones
Mid-Autumn Festival is an opportunity for people to bond with each other. They show their love for each other by buying gift boxes to give to family members or friends. Gifts here are usually moon cakes, jam, or wine. Moon cakes are sold throughout the shops, all kinds with many different colors.

In the countryside, people usually organize activities to give gifts to children on these days. Children in the village will gather, sing songs, watch lion dances, and receive gifts. It is the festival they are looking forward to.

lantern procession
Once upon a time when I was a child, on this day, my father often makes for my sisters and brothers star lanterns. In the evening, we will be brought along with star lanterns with candles to go around the village. Under the moonlight, we played and sang together. Those are beautiful memories of our childhood. Today, the Mid-Autumn Festival lantern procession is still going on, but it is rare to see people making their own moon lamps for their children because these lights now are sold in many shapes, sizes, and colors.

Lion dance
When I was young, everything was not as developed as it is now. The lion dance was simple but very interesting. The unicorn heads are handmade by the people for their children. On the days before the full moon day, children will bring their unicorn heads to each house to dance for the homeowners and be given money or candy by the homeowners. The unicorn's head is a symbol of luck and joy, so they're always welcome.

Nowadays, lion dance activities are much more exciting. There are more well-trained lion troupes, they are often hired to dance by shops, companies, restaurants, to bring talent, a fortune for the homeowners. There are many people going to see the lion dance these days, most of which are children.

Today is the 12th day of the 8th lunar month, with only three days left until the Mid-Autumn Festival. On the country roads, the moonlight is still bright, gentle, and sweet, but only silence remains, no drums and lion dances, no children's laughter, no more crowds of people go to see the lion dance. All are just memories. The covid pandemic has taken away many things, turned everyone's lives upside down. It will be the saddest Mid-Autumn Festival ever. I hope the Government will control the pandemic soon, and we will again welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival next year.
