Hi friends, its another wonderful opportunity and i will not take it for granted, please permit me to take you on a journey to my town and share with you our rich cultural heritage and beauty of the attires used at the display of her cultural celebrations.

Akwa ibom state is a state in Nigeria and is located at the coastal southern area of the country called Niger-Delta. the name Akwa also spelled Aqua or Qua means the Mighty or Great,
Ibom as well means the universe or the Earth, if you put it together, you can call it the great universe but then the name is not complete in it essence, i want to believe that it was because of the longness of the name in it original content that made them shorten it.
The full name is Akwa-Abasi Ibom, meaning "The great God of the universe"
I would not know why the state is so richly blessed culturally, maybe because the state is name after God or something but for the few years that i have been around, i can boldly say that God had to do that as He wanted.
This cultural dance are played using our traditionally made instrument, most of the instrument are placed by men while the ladies do the dancing, as you run down the chat, you will see the beautiful attire and their dance steps.
In all of the picture that are displayed about the traditional dance and the attire, you will observe one very unique features common to all, the smile as if the have never been confronted with challenging issues in life but this is design to make one forget the sorrows of life.
this dance is design to entertain royal personalities and their household, in some cases are used for traditional marriages to usher in the groom and bride at the start of the marriage ceremony.
This is another beautiful one, like i said the region is richly blessed, they call this Ekpe meaning "Lion", it comes in different colors and concept, it is not usually played except in its season or when very important traditional occasions are about to be done.
they also do use the same traditional instruments and are only played by men and i mean matured men, it follows a line of initiation to belong to the ekpe group.

The Ekpo Masquerade
This once are very dreadful, the name ekpo means "Spirit" the go with sharp machete and most time can hurt or injure people as they go along the street. this once are covered but there are some that do walk as naked as they came at creation but those once can kill. those once are not easily seen around except on very rear traditional occasions and at any time this once are to be out, the entire community will be informed and base on the fact that they walk naked, the ladies will not be permitted to be on the street within those days.
