Muncar Beach or known as Muncar fish port is the largest fish port on the island of Java and the second largest fish port in Indonesia after Bagansiapiapi port in Riau. The existence of this beach is more developed as a fishery business than a tourist area. Almost along the coastal area, dikes are built to withstand the waves and as a place to moor boats or ships.
On the other hand, in the morning, the visible activity around the coastal port of Muncar is fishermen returning to sea. The atmosphere this morning looks more crowded than at sea because buyers and middlemen come to pick up the fishermen.
The annual tradition held by Muncar fishermen is the sea picking tradition which takes place in the month of Suro in the Javanese calendar. The celebration of the sea picking tradition was held lively with a night market with the highlight of the larung offerings in the middle of the sea. The offerings that are floated in the middle of the sea, precisely in the Bali Strait, include goat heads, various cakes, fruits, gold fishing rods, opium, and two live chickens.
