Hive Book Club & Creativecoin

Before I get into the actual contest, and what you can win, first lets talk a little bit about the Hive Book Club and about CreativeCoin.

There are many creative minds on HIVE, somewhat scattered throughout different HIVE communities and Scot tribes, and creative minds of many kinds. The Hive Book Club is a HIVE community for readers, but a community where book reviews are often posted, well thought through and creatively written reviews by people who appreciate good writing.

CreativeCoin is a Scott Tribe with it's own token on hive-engine, CCC, and a place where creative minds of many kinds meat.

I currently have 325,000 creativecoin CCC delegated to the Hive Book Club, and that delegation links the two communities, but I really would like to do more to bring the two communities closer, and especially to bring #creativecoin authors and Hive Book Club readers closer together.

My current delegation to The Hive Book Club will expire at the end of this year, and before that , in a few months, we'll evaluate if I should do a new, bigger delegation next year, if I should use my CreativeCoin stake to revive my old Silent Bob Curation Initiative, or if a combination of the two would be the best option. In the mean time, my CCC holdings have grown a bit, and I now have a little over 115,000 CCC that really isn't doing all that much, at least not untill the end of the year. With this post, I want to look at how I can use this stake to run a little competition aimed at bringing the Hive Book Club and CreativeCoin closer together.

The prize

This post is about the writing contest, thuss the prize section is about the prize for writers. I hope to write a post next week with kind of a prize for readers as well, but that depends on the number of entries from writers.

The prize you can win with this contest is a single prize that is a 100,000 CCC #creativecoin delegation lasting from September 15th until a week prior to the end of the year.

The contest structure

The idea of the contest is a bit involved. That is because of my goal of using this contest as a way to bring readers and writers and to bring creativecoin and Hive Book Club closer together. The contest itself is quite straightforward, though.

  1. Read the next three sections of this post
  2. Write your short story
  3. Post your story on HIVE using the #creativecoin and the #fiction tag before the deadline in two weeks.
  4. Respond to this post with a link to your story.

The soft deadline will be September 1st 2021 00:00:00 AOE

That's it. Note, the deadline is a kind of a soft deadline, but you are advised strongly to try and submit your story before.

The moment the soft deadline ends, I plan to run a second competition. A competition for readers and members of the Hive Book Club. That contest will ask the reading community to write a short review of the stories by (some of the) contestants, and to rate each of the contestants' entry with one up to five stars. It's their choice if they rate late entries. The total number of stars received in posts like these will determine the winner of the 100,000 CCC delegation.

The Science

So for the contest, let's start off with a bit of science.

The central science that is the basis for the science part of the sci-fi contest is the concept of the Higgs field.

One subject important for Higgs fields is the concept of the vacuum state of the Higgs field. It is theorized that the Higgs field might be in a so-called false vacuum that might decay into true vacuum in vacuum decay.

Vacuum decay would result in a so-called Higgs Bubble, a growing bubble that, as the theory goes, would destroy the universe.

Watch the two video's above, they give you some contest about the lore for the story you are writing.

The fiction

It's science-fiction, so next to the hard science, we add some weird theories to the actual science too, to arrive at a scary yet intriguing scenario.

The lore of the story revolves around a weird idea: What if there is already a Higgs bubble destroying the universe? But not destroying it completely.

What if we, and our little part of the universe is what is left inside of the expanding Higgs bubble?

What our galaxy and the other galaxies inside of the Higgs bubble each only has a hand full of life-supporting planets, while the galaxies outside of the bubble are all teeming with life?

Secondly, today we believe the universe was created in a big bang, for a great part because of background radiation. In the fiction, this background radiation is caused by the edge of the expanding Higgs bubble. The expanding border of the sphere where the full-of-live universe is being destroyed and our bubble universe is what is left.

The challenge

The idea for the contest is that we receive/detect a message within the background radiation.

According to all models, the message would have been sent before the start of the universe.

After the message has been decoded, we discover the reality of being on the inside of the Higgs bubble that is destroying our parent universe.

It is also discovered that the speed of light inside of the Higgs Buble is faster than on the outside. Scientists discover it is possible to save the real universe by creating a higher-energy bubble from the inside of the Higgs bubble.

What we need to do for that is to basically incept a baby universe in a special way that has a Higgs field with a vacuum energy that is slightly higher than that of the parent universe. Doing so will create a baby universe that, like a Higgs buble would expand at the speed of light, our speed of light.

As the Higgs bubble we find ourselves in expands with the speed of light, the baby universe would catch up with the edge of the Higgs bubble in about eight million years, and in doing so, would safe the parent universe and most of the life inside of it from mass extinction on an unimaginable scale.

Catch: This would kill every living being inside of the bubble, including humanity. In fact, humanity will be gone in just seconds when/if the baby universe gets incepted.

The idea for the contest would be to, within this sci-fi context, to create a short story about the moral dilemma of the choice between the faith of the universe and the faith of the human race. Should the human race collectively commit suicide in order to save the universe with billions and billions of alien races?

Some tips:

  • Write the short story in your own way.
  • Make the story about the moral struggles, the social aspects of a society faced with this horrible choice.
  • Expose enough of the lore as described above, but watch out for info dumps.

Some extra info

While the prize is set at 100,000 CCC delegation for three months and a bit, this prize assumes there is going to be some competition. There should be at least four contestants in order for anyone to win this amount. The prize will go down with 25,000 CCC for every entry less than four.

So:

  • 1 contestant: 25,000 CCC delegation prize by default
  • 2 contestants: 50,000 CCC delegation
  • 3 contestants: 75,000 CCC delegation
  • 4 or more contestants: 100,000 CCC delegation

Note that if you are a member of the Hive Book Club community and you like to write as well as read, you must make a choice. You either compete in this writing contest, or, in a few weeks you compete in the review contest. You can't compete in both.

All writers are welcome, if you are on #creativecoin, great, but it's not required. If you are part of any Scott tribe or HIVE community where authors find a home, please re-share this post with your own community and join my effort in bringing communities together in our passion for written fiction.

I would especialy like to invite members of The Ink Well (@theinkwell) community to participate in this contest.
