Sipnosis.
Escrita por la autora Alice Sebold, es una historia ambientada en 1973, cuando una niña de 14 años llamada Susie Salmón (sí, como el pez), es victima de violación y asesinato por parte de su vecino. Desde el cielo, Susie puede ver cómo la vida transcurre después de su partida física, desde la pérdida que dejó en los corazones de sus familiares y amigos, hasta las pistas que sigue la policía por hallar el culpable de su muerte.
Esta novela está narrada por la propia Susie desde su partida del mundo físico, nos permite adentrarnos en su mente y comprender un poco de su mundo interior y también seguir la secuencia de la vida que anteriormente vivía: sus amigos, el chico que le gustaba, sus padres, hermanos e incluso, su asesino.
La historia contiene escenas “antes”, “durante” y “después”: Antes, recuerdos de cuando era niña junto con su hermana menor, los momentos con su padre cuando construía veleros dentro de botellas, y las emociones que sintió al dar su primer beso con el chico que más le gustaba son algunos de las más relevantes; durante, la historia de ese fatídico día que dio un giro en la vida no solo para ella, sino para su familia; después, a través de Susie seremos participes de las distintas etapas por las que su familia tuvo que pasar para llevar el dolor que significó su partida: negación, ira, negociación, depresión y aceptación.
Synopsis.
Written by the author Alice Sebold, it is a story set in 1973, when a 14-year-old girl named Susie Salmon (yes, like the fish), was the victim of rape and murder by her neighbor. From heaven, Susie can see how life goes on after her physical departure, from the loss she left in the hearts of her family and friends, to the clues the police follow to find the culprit of her death.
This novel is narrated by Susie herself since her departure from the physical world, allowing us to enter her mind and understand a little of her inner world and also to follow the sequence of the life she previously lived: her friends, the boy she liked, her parents, siblings and even her murderer.
The story contains "before", "during" and "after" scenes: before, memories of when she was a child together with her younger sister, the moments with her father when he built sailboats inside bottles, and the emotions she felt when she had her first kiss with the boy she liked the most are some of the most relevant; during, the story of that fateful day that gave a turn in life not only for her, but for her family; after, through Susie we will be participants of the different stages through which her family had to go through to carry the pain that her departure meant: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Susie es una niña de 14 años, vive con sus padres y sus dos hermanos menores, empieza a experimentar algunas de las cosas que componen la adolescencia como enamorarse y dar su primer beso, suele ser curiosa y muy alegre, amante de la naturaleza y de tomar fotografías, sin embargo, no volverá a sonreír, ni ver al chico que le gusta, ni leer revistas Vogue con su hermana, ni tomar fotografías con la cámara de rollo que sus padres le dieron por su cumpleaños; pues un día es persuadida en el camino de regreso a casa tras la escuela e invitada a entrar a una madriguera construida en un campo de trigo muy cercano, su curiosidad puede más que ella y antes que pueda notar las alertas, es violada y finalmente asesinada por la persona que menos esperada: su aparentemente tranquilo y amable vecino.
Estando en el cielo, su nuevo hogar, Susie encuentra personas que se convierten en amigos, puede cantar, bailar, disfrutar de las cosas que siempre deseó tener en la tierra. En ocasiones se pregunta qué hubiera pasado si hubiera corrido, si hubiera luchado un poco más, sin embargo, no hay mucho que pueda hacer para cambiar de rumbo, solo anhela que su familia pueda volver a vivir su vida sin ella y que sea capturado el culpable de su muerte.
Summary.
Susie is a 14 year old girl, she lives with her parents and her two younger brothers, she begins to experience some of the things that make up adolescence such as falling in love and having her first kiss, she is usually curious and very cheerful, a lover of nature and taking pictures, however, she will never smile again, nor see the boy she likes, nor read vogue magazines with her sister, nor take pictures with the film camera her parents gave her for her birthday, because one day she is persuaded on the way home from school and invited to enter a burrow built in a wheat field very close to the school... before she can notice the alerts, she is raped and finally killed by the person she least expected: Her seemingly quiet and kind neighbor.
Being in heaven, her new home, Susie finds people who become friends, she can sing, dance, enjoy the things she always wished she had on earth. At times she wonders what would have happened if she had run, if she had fought a little harder, yet there is not much she can do to change course, she only longs for her family to be able to go back to living their lives without her and for the culprit of her death to be caught.
Mi opinión
Desde mi Cielo (The Lovely Bones, en Inglés), es una historia que conocí gracias a la película que protagoniza Saoirse Ronan, no recuerdo cómo fue que me enteré que estaba basado en un libro pero amé tanto la película que prácticamente fui corriendo a buscar el libro en pdf (y gracias al cielo que lo encontré XD).
La película es muy fiel al libro (lo cual agradezco), aun así, pude enterarme de más detalles y comprender un poco mejor las emociones por las que pasó la familia Salmon tras un suceso como este. No les mentiré, en más de una ocasión sentí ganas de llorar, nunca he perdido un ser querido tan cercano pero ponerme en el lugar de los personajes me hizo sentir realmente triste y desolada.
Aunque se presentan situaciones de mucha tensión, no es una lectura pesada, resulta muy emotivo y conmovedor seguir el hilo de la vida de cada miembro de la familia Salmon y como cada uno encontró la manera de sobrellevar su muerte tan inesperada, algunos personajes me decepcionaron, pero preferí no juzgarlos ni enfocarme en ellos sino en aquellos miembros que trataron de mantener el espíritu arriba.
No la consideraría una historia de misterio, sino de superación, pues el asesinato de Susie pasa a segundo plano cuando la historia se centra en las distintas etapas de duelo que la familia Salmón –y también otros allegados a ella- atraviesan y cómo logran superarlo. En general es una historia que te llena de ternura, sin embargo, no creo que sea apto para todo el mundo ya que toca temas fuertes como el abuso sexual, la violencia, la muerte; así que si eres una persona sensible con respecto a estos temas, quizá esta lectura no sea para ti.

My opinion
The Lovely Bones is a story I got to know thanks to the movie starring Saoirse Ronan, I don't remember how I found out it was based on a book but I loved the movie so much that I practically went running to look for the book in pdf (and thank heavens I found it XD).
The movie is very faithful to the book (which I appreciated), still, I was able to learn more details and understand a little better the emotions the Salmon family went through after an event like this. I won't lie to you, on more than one occasion I felt like crying, I have never lost a loved one so close but putting myself in the characters' shoes made me feel really sad and devastated.
Although there are very tense situations, it is not a heavy read, it is very emotional and touching to follow the thread of the life of each member of the Salmon family and how each one found a way to cope with their unexpected death, some characters disappointed me, but I preferred not to judge them or focus on them but on those members who tried to keep their spirits up.
I wouldn't consider it a mystery story, but a story of overcoming, as Susie's murder takes a back seat as the story focuses on the different stages of grief that the Salmon family -and also others close to them- go through and how they manage to overcome it. Overall it is a story that fills you with tenderness, however, I don't think it is suitable for everyone as it touches on strong themes such as sexual abuse, violence, death; so if you are a sensitive person regarding these topics, maybe this read is not for you.
