Synopsis

Empezamos este libro con una Emily desdichada y traicionada, ¿Qué paso en los últimos capítulos del Perfume del Rey para que se sintiera así?
Permítanme adentrarlos en contexto y de paso advierto que contiene spoilers:
El reino de Mishnock se encuentra prácticamente acorralado: una amenaza de muerte a los reyes Denavritz por parte del rey Lacrontte hace que estos tomen la decisión de adjudicar al poder por su seguridad, tomando el cargo en su lugar su hijo y único heredero: Estefan Denavritz, asimismo, la batalla por territorio y riquezas sigue vigente y no hay suficientes soldados que defiendan la frontera, por ende, el nuevo rey Estefan debe tomar decisiones desesperadas, una de ellas es desposar a la princesa Lerenthia, de otro modo su reino, Cristeners, no cederá soldados que luchen en tierras Mishnisianas ni hará ningún tipo de alianzas con ellos.
Las cosas no pueden ser más terribles para Emily, su pueblo se encuentra bajo constante ataque y el supuesto amor que le profesaba Estefan se convirtió en obsesión, la obliga a vivir bajo su palacio, en el mismo techo que la mujer con la que se casó. Es en este punto donde el Rey Magnus Lacrontte empieza a hacer acto de presencia, al principio, de forma muy sutil, lo veremos en algunas reuniones en el palacio Denavritz para tratar acuerdos pero el destino hará que su vida y la de Emily Malhore se vayan entrelazando, lo que resultará en un nuevo lazo amoroso, mucho más apasionado y fuerte que ninguno ha podido sentir antes.

Plot
We start this book with an unhappy and betrayed Emily, what happened in the last few chapters of King's Perfume to make her feel this way?
Let me give you some context and warn you that it contains spoilers.
The kingdom of Mishnock is practically cornered: a death threat to the Denavritz kings by King Lacrontte makes them take the decision to adjudicate the power for their safety, taking over instead his son and only heir: Estefan Denavritz, likewise, the battle for territory and riches continues and there are not enough soldiers to defend the border, therefore, the new king Estefan must make desperate decisions, one of them is to marry princess Lerenthia, otherwise his kingdom, Cristeners, will not cede soldiers fighting in Mishnisian lands or make any kind of alliances with them.
Things could not be more terrible for Emily, her people are under constant attack and Estefan's supposed love for her has become an obsession, forcing her to live under his palace, in the same roof as the woman he married. Her reputation in front of the people is nothing more than that of the king's supposed mistress and she only feels betrayed and used... she feels like the King's Perfume.
It is at this point where King Magnus Lacrontte begins to make his presence felt, at first, in a very subtle way, we will see him in some meetings at the Denavritz palace to discuss agreements but fate will make his life and Emily Malhore's intertwine, resulting in a new love bond, much more passionate and stronger than any she has ever felt before.

Este nuevo personaje, Magnus Lacrontte VI, es un rey que tuvo que ser entrenado para dirigir la nación desde muy temprana edad, pues sus padres murieron cuando tenía 12 años y no había nadie más en la línea de sucesión. Desde muy joven sintió la presión de tomar las decisiones correctas por el bien de su nación, aprendió el arte de la guerra y reprimió sus emociones por la muerte de sus padres durante mucho años, aisló su dolor y lo reemplazó por avaricia, venganza, poder y fortuna; su principal objetivo durante muchos años ha sido capturar a los reyes de la nación de Mishnock y vengar la muerte de sus padres, a la vez que proclamaba esa nación como suya.
Es conocido por ser un rey de carácter fuerte, actitud fría y para nada benevolente. El narcisismo y sarcasmo son parte de su aura. Sin embargo, la llegada de Emily Malhore a su vida da un vuelco completamente y esta le inspira a ser mejor persona.

Let's talk about the characters.
This new character, Magnus Lacrontte VI, is a king who had to be trained to lead the nation from a very early age, as his parents died when he was 12 years old and there was no one else in the line of succession. From a very young age he felt the pressure to make the right decisions for the good of his nation, he learned the art of war and repressed his emotions for the death of his parents for many years, he isolated his pain and replaced it with greed, revenge, power and fortune; his main goal for many years has been to capture the kings of the nation of Mishnock and avenge the death of his parents, while proclaiming that nation as his own.
He is known to be a king of strong character, cold attitude and not at all benevolent. Narcissism and sarcasm are part of his aura. However, the arrival of Emily Malhore in his life completely turns his life around and inspires him to be a better person.
Emily's life takes a 180 degree turn in this new story, not only because she takes the position of queen in a nation foreign to hers, but because she is betrayed by the people she least thought they would (and I'm not just talking about Estefan, hehe), although this destroys her inside, her husband Magnus is her support and gives her much more security and self-confidence, she is no longer the sweet daughter of perfumers, now she is Emily Lacrontte, a much stronger and determined woman, but just as curious as before, which makes her continue investigating the mysteries that the nations keep, it seems that the Lacrontte kingdom was not always the bad guy in the story...
Mi opinión.
Primero que nada, este libro me gustó mucho más que el primero. La historia es más dinámica, hay momentos tristes pero también otros muy divertidos, el desarrollo de los personajes es un poco más profundo lo que te hace empatizar con ellos y la trama genera intriga, en un par de ocasiones me costó dejar de seguir leyendo…
Magnus lacrontte, uno de los personajes principales de esta historia, es básicamente el estereotipo de las novelas de Wattpad: posee una actitud fría y odiosa, pero con un pasado oscuro que justifica su modo de ser… Debo admitir que esto me genera algo de cringe, pero no lo odié, usualmente es una persona respetuosa y con un sentido del humor sarcástico que resulta divertido de vez en vez. Ah, y sus intenciones con Emily son siempre muy puras, aunque a veces la cague, la quiere y trabaja por demostrárselo, así que este personaje no me desagradó completamente.
Emily por otro lado sigue siendo bastante insípida, me gusta que su personaje haya crecido y ahora tenga una postura más fuerte pero… no lo sé, le falta chispa, le falta personalidad.
Conoceremos muchos más secretos acerca de la guerra entre naciones, lo cual es bueno y siento que la curiosidad por descubrir quién tuvo la culpa es lo que te mantiene atado a la historia (al menos eso fue lo que me pasó a mí), y ver qué desenlaces tendrá a partir de allí también te anima a leer el tercer y último libro de esta trilogía (el cual supuestamente está narrado desde el punto de vista de Magnus Lacrontte).
Me parece que en este libro la autora contaba con un poco más de experiencia y al escribir plasmó una historia mucho más compleja, la relación entre nuestros dos personajes principales es más creíble, es una relación con altos y bajos como cualquier relación en la vida real, así que le doy un punto por eso; no hay tanto relleno entre capítulos, lo cual hace la lectura amena, es una historia que SÍ recomendaría esta vez.
El tercer y último libro de esta trilogía llamada “Rey” está narrado por el punto de vista de Magnus Lacrontte, hasta ahora no lo he leído pero sé que narra escenas de su pasado (antes y después de conocer a Emily), presente (su vida con Emily) y futuro (qué pasó después de Las Cadenas del Rey). Así que no les puedo prometer una tercera parte pronto porque no sé si la llegaré a leer si quiera.

My opinion.
First of all, I liked this book much more than the first one. The story is more dynamic, there are sad moments but also very funny ones, the development of the characters is a bit deeper which makes you empathize with them and the plot generates intrigue, in a couple of occasions it was hard for me to stop reading....
Magnus lacrontte, one of the main characters in this story, is basically the stereotype of Wattpad novels: he has a cold and hateful attitude, but with a dark past that justifies his way of being... I must admit that this generates me some cringe, but I didn't hate him, he's usually a respectful person with a sarcastic sense of humor that is funny from time to time. Oh, and his intentions with Emily are always very pure, even if he screws up sometimes, he loves her and works to prove it to her, so I didn't completely dislike this character.
Emily on the other hand is still pretty bland, I like that her character has grown and now has a stronger stance but... I don't know, she lacks spark, she lacks personality.
We get to know a lot more secrets about the war between nations, which is good and I feel that the curiosity to find out who was to blame is what keeps you attached to the story (at least that's what happened to me), and seeing what outcomes it will have from there also encourages you to read the third and last book of this trilogy (which is supposedly narrated from Magnus Lacrontte's point of view).
It seems to me that in this book the author had a little more experience and in writing she captured a much more complex story, the relationship between our two main characters is more believable, it is a relationship with ups and downs like any relationship in real life, so I give it a point for that; there is not so much filler between chapters, which makes the reading enjoyable, it is a story that I would YES recommend this time.
The third and last book of this trilogy called "King" is narrated by Magnus Lacrontte's point of view, so far I haven't read it but I know it narrates scenes from his past (before and after he met Emily), present (his life with Emily) and future (what happened after The King's Chains). So I can't promise you a third part soon because I don't know if I'll ever even read it.
