Se trata del libro Historia de la belleza del prolífico autor Umberto Eco reconocido científico autor de conocidísimas obras como La estructura ausente, Tratado de semiótica general ,Los límites de la interpretación, Kant y el ornitorrinco, entre muchos libros y ensayos científicos.
También es muy conocido por el éxito de su primera novela El nombre de la rosa, este éxito se extiende a otras novelas como El péndulo de Foucault y El bandolino.

Today I would like to present to you a profoundly beautiful book that has as its theme a difficult concept despite the rapidity and continuity with which it is used, the concept of beauty.
Whoever opens this book is exposed to a fascinating experience, intellectually and emotionally.
It is the book History of Beauty by the prolific author Umberto Eco, the well-known scientist and author of such well-known works as The Absent Structure, A Treatise on General Semiotics, The Limits of Interpretation, Kant and the Platypus, among many other scientific books and essays.
He is also well known for the success of his first novel The Name of the Rose, a success that extends to other novels such as Foucault's Pendulum and The Bandolino.
Historia de la belleza está ilustrada con cientos de imágenes recolectadas de la entre las obras maestras de todos los tiempos, también recoge una antología de textos alrededor de la idea de la belleza a través de la historia, desde Pitágoras hasta los tiempos contemporáneos. Allí se encuentran ideas sobre la belleza d todo lo que nos rodea, las flores, los colores, el cuerpo humano, los astros, la luz, los ropajes, etc.
Realmente Historia de la belleza es un tratado que revisa las distintas ideas de filósofos, científicos, misticos, artistas y de alguna manera como toda persona, por humilde y desvalida que sea alcanza para sí mismo una idea de la belleza.
La edición, sexta edición, que tenemos en las manos de Historia de la belleza, en castellano, se imprimió en los talleres del Editorial Lumen, en el año 2005 en Italia.
Su título original es Storia della bellezza, la versión en Castellano contó con la traducción de María Pons Irazábal.
