Dan Brown is a popular author. His works have been read by so many people across the world and there is no doubt that his works speak for him. I have so many times heard about Dan Brown and his work but I always promise myself to one day explore his works. After reading two of his books, I can say that his works will be read by millions of people for centuries to come.
After reading ’Angels And Demons’ Last November, I decided to order some copies of Dan Brown works together with some other authors I love to read. It took forever for the books to get me and a couple of the books came to me in bad conditions. Well that's a story for another day.
The Da Vinci Code is the ninth highest-selling fiction book of all time. It is a book that has influenced so many people and literature across the world. It was published in March, 2003 with 496 pages. It is a mystery thriller novel that keeps you at the edge of your seat all through till the end of the book. For me, this book is not just a mystery thriller fiction, it is also a conspiracy and crime fiction.
’The Da Vinci Code’, the second book in the Robert Langdon series centers around how Robert, a symbologist who on a fateful night while staying in Paris received a call to Louvre to help out on a murder investigation because the murder victim’s body has mystery symbols all over. The victim in question was in a particular pose with instructions to find Langdon scribbled on the floor.
When Langdon got to the crime scene, little did he know that he was also being investigated as a prime suspect for murder. All the mystery symbols brought about the Mona Lisa paint. To clear his name, Langdon worked with Sophie, a French cryptologist to solve all the puzzles on the crime. Will they both succeed in solving this crime?
My Review And Rating.
Dan Brown did an amazing job with this book. If you are familiar with Dan Brown's works, you realize that one of his best traits is how he tends to mix all kinds of theories together to create a masterpiece story. Theories like history, religion, reality, conspiracies, and architectures. There is so much hidden knowledge in this book and it makes me wonder how his mind works.
The plot of this book is a complex one with lots of controversial theories. In the plot, Dan questioned some key Christian figures, he provided some quite interesting theories about the art pieces done by Da Vinci and he also delved deep into the secret society that people like Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo and Da Vinci were involved with.
Also, how Dan introduced all his characters was simple and interesting. Each character was well developed and they all had their own motivation and secrets. The story to me feels so real that sometimes I can't tell whether I am reading a theory. I loved and enjoyed moments like Sophie and the force scenes. From the start of the book, it was kind of intense because I was on the edge of my seat all through. However, at the tail end I was beginning to get bored a little, but the end made up for it.
The setting of this book was amazing and beautiful for me. I have never been to the Louvre but I intend to visit some day. The setting is so well detailed that, sometimes I had to pause my reading and look up some certain things on the internet. The setting was seamlessly blended with the story. Also, all the details about the settings were all real facts.
One thing I love most about this book is how Dan curved out the story and character of this book from themes like faith, religion, conspiracies, power, history, mythology, art and symbolism. He took his time and performed this task properly with factual detailed settings backing up the story.
Rating this book, I will give 4.8 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed reading this book. I learnt a lot of things from this book. This book gave me the opportunity to challenge and exercise myself mentally. Dan’s storytelling technique was excellent which made this book worth reading. I highly recommend this book to lovers of mystery, thriller, crime and also to everyone who is willing to expand their knowledge.
