A book that attracted my attention at the beginning of two years ago is Baby doll; when I heard about its story I was intrigued and curious to know much more about its peculiar plot.
The life of kidnapped girls must be difficult, especially if their kidnapping takes them from childhood to adulthood, such is the case of this story but with an unexpected twist to the plot we can immerse ourselves and let ourselves be guided by the narration of a girl who manages to escape from the clutches of her oppressor thanks to a mistake made by himself.
Lily has had a complicated life, since she was kidnapped just after leaving her high school more than eight years ago, her childhood was stolen, her adolescence devastating as she remained under the clutches of her kidnapper in a basement with no natural light through any crack or crevice. After being his prisoner for years she managed to have a daughter from him, Sky; Lily knows that the little girl is not to blame for anything and she loves her with all her heart. The poor child has no knowledge of anything other than those four gloomy walls. Her abductor brings her little girl gifts but Lily can only hate and loathe them, yet she leaves them to him as she cannot find another to repay him.
After years in that confinement Lily already knows the sounds around her, the man's footsteps walking towards her door, the rusty bolt opening or closing with some difficulty, the mice scurrying for some food. One night Lily does not hear the sound of the bolt; she notices that strange as it is the sound she always expects to hear, the one that is always there.
Impatience and anxiety rule her thoughts, a million questions that start with a "what if", what if she forgot to lock? What if it's another test and she catches me to punish me? The questions are endless but with the bitterness of having lost her life in a basement, having to live another day, another week, another month or even another year with that disgusting man would be devastating for her. Being ready for anything she runs away with her daughter, she runs as fast as she can, her courage made her do the impossible. Her captor's mistake cost her her exit.
But escaping was only the beginning of her story...
A story full of suspense, denouement, love, deep secrets and great encounters. A tornado of emotions is how I would describe reading this unusual and interesting plot.
The courage that Lily had is inspiring for anyone, much more for women and girls who had similar situations.

Un libro que resulto atrayendo mi atención al principios de hace dos años es Baby doll; cuando supe de su historia me causo cierta intriga y curiosidad por saber mucho más de su peculiar trama.
La vida de chicas secuestradas debe de ser difícil, en especial si su secuestro lleva desde su niñez hasta su adultez, tal es el caso de esta historia pero con un giro inesperado a la trama nos podemos sumergir y dejar guiar por la narración de una chica que logra escapar de las garras de su opresor gracias a un error cometido por él mismo.
Lily ha tenido una vida complicada, desde que fue secuestrada justo después de salir de su instituto hace más de ocho años, su infancia fue robada, su adolescencia devastadora al permanecer bajo las garras de su secuestrador en un sótano sin luz natural por ninguna hendija o grieta. Tras ser su prisionera por años logro tener una hija de él, Sky; Lily sabe que la pequeña no tiene la culpa de nada y ella la ama con todo su corazón. La pobre niña no tiene conocimiento de otra cosa que no sea esas cuatro paredes tenebrosas. Su raptor le trae obsequios a su pequeña pero Lily no puede más que odiarlos y aborrecerlos, sin embargo se los deja ya que ella no puede buscarle otro para recompensarlo.
Tras años en aquel encierro ya Lily conoce los sonidos de su alrededor, los pasos del hombre caminando hacia su puerta, el cerrojo ya oxidado abriendo o cerrando con algo de dificultad, los ratones corriendo por un poco de comida. Una noche Lily no escucha el sonido del cerrojo; nota eso extraño ya que es el sonido que siempre espera escuchar, el que siempre está.
La impaciencia y ansiedad gobiernan sus pensamientos, un millón de preguntas que comienzan con un “y si”, ¿y si se le olvidó cerrar? ¿Y si es otra prueba y me agarra para castigarme? Las preguntas son interminables pero con el rencor de haber perdido su vida en un sótano, tener que vivir un día más, una semana más, un mes más o incluso un año más con ese hombre repugnante sería devastador para ella. Estando dispuesta a todo huye con su hija, corre lo más que puede, su valentía la hizo hacer lo imposible. El error de su captor le costó su salida.
Pero escapar fue solo el comienzo de su historia…
Una historia llena de suspenso, desenlaces, amor, secretos profundos y grandes encuentros. Un tornado de emociones es cómo describiría yo la lectura de esta trama tan inusual e interesante.
La valentía que tuvo Lily es inspirador para cualquier persona, mucho más para las mujeres y niñas que tuvieron situaciones similares.
