Últimamente se me ha hecho difícil encontrar un buen libro, quizás porque la literatura moderna es más superficial que artística. Pero eso no quiere decir que todas las novelas sean malas, sino que las novelas buenas están al fondo del estante, esperando ser descubiertas por un lector exigente, y no es que yo sea uno, aunque a veces leer sobre la misma premisa una y otra vez resulta agobiantemente aburrido. Esta vez, mientras buscaba algo para leer que no fuera juvenil ni romántico, me encontré con “Voces de Chernóbil”, de la escritora Svetlana Alexiévich, ¡Y vaya que hallé una joya! Bueno, por algo esta autora ganó un merecido nobel de la literatura.
Lately it has been difficult for me to find a good book, perhaps because modern literature is more superficial than artistic. But that does not mean that all novels are bad, but that good novels are at the bottom of the shelf, waiting to be discovered by a demanding reader, and it is not that I am one, although sometimes I read about the same premise over and over again. It is once overwhelmingly boring. This time, while looking for something to read that was neither youthful nor romantic, I came across "Voices of Chernobyl" by the writer Svetlana Alexievich, and boy did I find a gem! Well, for something this author won a well deserved Nobel Prize in literature.
No vengo acá a tratar de causar un revuelo, solo a contar sobre uno sucedido por allá en Chernóbil más precisamente, ¿conocen la historia del reactor? Yo sí, aunque no cómo Svetlana Alexiévich nos los cuenta en “Voces de Chernóbil”. Esta historia, o más bien historias, están basadas en testimonios reales, acontecidos durante el desastre que sacudió a Prípiat y mantuvo al mundo en un suspenso radioactivo. Hay dolor, humor negro, pérdidas irreparables y una lección que saldrá más allá de los testimonios para hacer cambiar nuestra manera de ver la vida y el amor.
I'm not here to try to cause a stir, just to tell about one that happened there in Chernobyl more precisely, do you know the history of the reactor? I do, although not how Svetlana Alexiévich tells us about them in "Voices of Chernobyl." This story, or rather stories, are based on real testimonies, which occurred during the disaster that shook Prípiat and kept the world in radioactive suspense. No hay una trama fundamentada, solo una serie de testimonios verídicos, conmovedores y maravillosamente contados; la confección de la palabra te hace suspirar, reír y llorar entre el humor negro y la tragedia.
Svetlana Alexievich qualifies reality under an interesting premise; Using the resource of monologues, the author allows the reader to become very familiar with what the narrator is distilling in the sentences. There is no substantiated plot, only a series of truthful, moving and wonderfully told testimonies; the making of the word makes you sigh, laugh and cry between black humor and tragedy.

Los personajes no son ficticios, pero la autora logra descifrarlos en todos sus ángulos, transmitiendo de una manera muy profunda todo lo que vieron, sintieron y palparon durante el desastre nuclear. Las historias relatadas hacen uso del dialogo y los pensamientos internos para darle más emoción a la narración, haciéndola humana y por demás de conmovedora. Te conviertes en parte del testimonio, y visibilizas la nostalgia mientras las letras se funden en tu paladar. No tengo duda alguna de que Svetlana Alexiévich logró confeccionar un mundo fascinante a través de la tan difícil realidad.
The characters are not fictional, but the author manages to decipher them from all angles, transmitting in a very profound way everything they saw, felt and felt during the nuclear disaster. The stories told make use of dialogue and internal thoughts to give more emotion to the narrative, making it human and also moving. You become part of the testimony, and you make nostalgia visible as the lyrics melt on your palate. I have no doubt that Svetlana Alexievich managed to create a fascinating world through such difficult reality.

Voces de Chernóbil es el lado más nostálgico de una realidad que aún es imposible de superar para las víctimas del desastre nuclear más controversial de todos los tiempos. Al estar basado en los testimonios de testigos de primera fila, es muy fácil sentir un nudo en la garganta por tantas desgracias acumuladas una tras otra, desde la muerte hasta la soledad. Es un libro que recomiendo con los ojos cerrados, aun sabiendo que al cerrarlos recordaré las crudas imágenes que las frases y los monólogos revelaron ante mí. Sin mencionar, además, las lágrimas que escaparon por mis mejillas…
Voices of Chernobyl is the most nostalgic side of a reality that is still impossible to overcome for the victims of the most controversial nuclear disaster of all time. Being based on the testimonies of first-rate witnesses, it is very easy to feel a lump in your throat from so many misfortunes accumulated one after another, from death to loneliness. It is a book that I recommend with my eyes closed, even knowing that when I close them I will remember the crude images that the phrases and monologues revealed before me. Not to mention, furthermore, the tears that leaked down my cheeks ...
