Best regards to all! I am here once again bringing a little bit of the architecture of Argentina which is the country where I live. In this opportunity I will continue with the style of my last post and in this case I will share with you information and photos of the National Library of the Republic of Argentina.
We continue with the Brutalist style, personally I did not know about it and I can say that I love this style of architecture, it is simply impressive and imposing, at the same time very different from others and very characteristic.

En esta oportunidad voy a continuar con el estilo de mi último post y para éste caso les comparto información y fotos de la Biblioteca Nacional de la República Argentina.
Continuamos con el estilo Brutalista, personalmente no conocía sobre él y puedo decir que me encanta estilo de arquitectura, es simplemente impresionante e imponente, a la vez muy distinto a otros y muy característico.
In the previous post @storiesoferne mentioned to me that the mortgage bank looked like an "Optimus Prime" and we agreed on that 😄 but I must say that this one looks even more robotic 🤣. Well anyway, let's resume with the architecture of this beautiful Brutalist building that I found fascinating.
The national library is located in the Recoleta neighborhood, founded in September 1810, going through structural changes until reaching the building that we are currently observing, being inaugurated in April 1992.
En el post anterior @storiesoferne me menciono que el banco hipotecario parecía un "Optimus Prime" y coincidimos en ello 😄 pero debo decir que ésta si me parece más robot aún 🤣. Bueno en fin, reanudemos con la arquitectura de este hermoso edificio Brutalista que me pareció fascinante.
La biblioteca nacional está ubicada en el barrio de Recoleta, fundada en septiembre de 1810, pasando por cambios estructurales hasta llegar a la edificación que actualmente estamos observando siendo inaugurada ésta sede en abril de 1992.
The construction was carried out by different Argentinean construction companies such as: José E. Teitelbaum S.A., Servente Constructora S.A. and others.
The building is a rectangular structure of reinforced concrete which is supported by four columns that house elevators and stairs. The library is distributed over 6 floors and a basement, which we will briefly describe below.
La construcción fue llevada a cabo por distintas compañías y empresas Argentinas de construcciones tales como: José E. Teitelbaum S.A., Servente Constructora S.A. y otros.
El edificio constituye una estructura rectangular de hormigón armado la cual está sostenida por cuatro columnas que albergan ascensores y escaleras. La biblioteca está distribuida en 6 pisos y un subsuelo que vamos a detallarlo brevemente a continuación.
In the basement there are deposits of books that were placed there to gain more space in the rooms. On the first floor, a minimal construction was created to connect organically with the surrounding green areas, and a newspaper library and a room for old publications are located on this level.
The second floor houses the management office, an auditorium, an exhibition hall and a cafeteria, while the second floor houses the administrative areas.
The third floor houses the photo, audio and media libraries. If we go to the fourth floor we can find unpublished materials and historical manuscripts. On the fifth floor you will find the main reading room while the sixth floor houses a free reading room and reference materials.
En el subsuelo de encuentran depósitos de libros que fueron colocados allí para ganar más espacio en las salas. En la planta baja se creó una construcción mínima para conectar orgánicamente con las áreas verdes que lo rodean y se encuentran en éste nivel, una hemeroteca y una sala de publicaciones antiguas.
En el primer piso se encuentra la oficina de dirección, un auditorio, una sala de exposiciones y una cafetería, mientras en el segundo piso se fijaron las áreas administrativas.
En el tercer piso se encuentra la fototeca, audioteca y la mediateca. Si vamos al cuarto piso podemos ubicar lo que son materiales inéditos h manuscritos históricos. En el quinto piso encuentras las sala principal de lectura mientras que el sexto piso alberga una sala de lectura libre y materiales de referencia.
The library is called Biblioteca Nacional Mariano Moreno but it is known by everyone as the name given in the title of the post. It is one of the most important in the American continent and its architecture is considered one of the most unique in the world. A symbol of modern architecture in Argentina and at the same time an icon of Brutalism worldwide.
The headquarters of the National Library was declared a National Historic Monument in 2017.
La biblioteca lleva por nombre Biblioteca Nacional Mariano Moreno pero es conocida por todos como el nombre que se le da el título al post. Es una de las más importantes del continente americano y por su arquitectura es considerada una de las más singulares del mundo. Un símbolo de arquitectura moderna en Argentina y a la vez un icono del Brutalismo mundial.
La sede de la Biblioteca Nacional fue declarada Monumento histórico nacional en el año 2017.
The national library is located in a 2 hectare park that was designed by the landscaper Carlos Thays for the Quinta Unzué and was also the residence where Eva Perón died in 1952.
It won first prize in the 1961 national anti-project competition.
La biblioteca nacional se encuentra ubicada en un parque con 2 hectáreas de dimensión que fue diseñada por el paisajista Carlos Thays para la Quinta Unzué y también fue residencia donde murió Eva Perón en el año 1952.
Fue ganador del primer premio del concurso nacional de antiproyectos de 1961.
