Every afternoon after school Matt would ride his bike to the nursing home. When the temperature was mild, his grandfather would wait for him sitting on the porch, then sit next to him and start reading him the newspaper. Although he wasn't that old he struggled to read even with the aid of his glasses. Matt would stop when he didn't understand the meaning of a word, so his grandfather would explain to him with examples in which context that word could be used effectively. Grandpa's culture was quite wide and varied, and his calm way, rich in details and anecdotes fascinated his grandson, every day he discovered new things in the world thanks to the special bond he had with his grandfather.

Ogni pomeriggio dopo la scuola Matt andava in bici fino alla casa di riposo. Quando la temperatura era mite, suo nonno lo aspettava seduto in veranda, quindi gli si sedeva accanto ed iniziava a leggergli il giornale. Benchè non fosse così anziano faceva fatica a leggere anche con l'ausilio degli occhiali. Matt quando non capita il significato di qualche parola si fermava, cosicchè il nonno gli spiegava con degli esempi in quale contesto quella parola potesse essere usata efficacemente. La cultura del nonno era alquanto ampia e variegata, e il suo modo calmo, ricco di dettagli ed aneddoti affascinava il nipote, ogni giorno scopriva nuove cose del mondo grazie al legame speciale che aveva col nonno.
