I'll let you in on a secret:
creation is like an old ship.
That ship can be rusty,
and listen! its hull creaks and creaks,
like a straining heart.
This one is like that. It's hard to know if its parts
are sailing at the same speed.
Look! Here's a chimney that's cruising at cruising speed,
but the bow is going at full speed.
Inside the ship there are all kinds of things pulsating.
(there are also sticky things crawling in the dark);
Yet even these horrible things produce happiness.
Smell! There is the scent of summer flowers and green leaves.
Listen! There is deep music at the bottom of a rippling sea.
I've laughed, I've cried, I've felt like drowning, and I've swum....
A goddess of flowers has spoken to me with a transparent voice of waves.

Sometimes I have dragged that old ship with my hands....
There are stories that weigh, behind the dark windows.
There are my eyes, my tongue, my nose, my ears, my hands...
There are also stories of love.

And light.
