Los veleros, son embarcaciones propulsadas por la acción de los vientos sobre sus velas. Aparecieron en el antiguo Egipto y por ende tienen más de cinco mil años de historia. Los comerciantes los utilizaban para navegar por el río Nilo y el Mar Mediterráneo. Hoy en día, la mayoría de los veleros tienen usos recreativos, deportivos y hasta educativos; aunque, en algunas zonas, como en el Océano Índico, se siguen utilizando con una función comercial.

Es importante tomar en cuenta que al referirse a las velas de un velero, se trata de paños de distintos tamaños y formas, que se deben amarrar al mástil, integrando un sistema conocido como aparejo, esto permite aprovechar el impulso que aporta el aire. Más allá de que los veleros se valen de la fuerza del viento para desplazare, su aparejo les permite navegar con precisión y estabilidad incluso con vientos en contra.

Los veleros simbolizan la resistencia ante la adversidad, el control en los momentos críticos, el poder de no perder nunca la templanza. También pueden representar el amor por la libertad, a las almas aventureras y al valor de los valientes; la persistencia y la resistencia. Se puede asociar a los veleros con las palabras: Homeward Bound: regreso a casa, ya que se relaciona con la vuelta al hogar, a los orígenes, la vuelta al punto de partida después de un gran viaje.

Sailboats are boats propelled by the action of the winds on their sails. They appeared in ancient Egypt and therefore have more than five thousand years of history. Merchants used them to navigate the Nile River and the Mediterranean Sea. Today, most sailboats have recreational, sports and even educational uses; although, in some areas, such as in the Indian Ocean, they are still used with a commercial function.

It is important to take into account that when referring to the sails of a sailboat, these are cloths of different sizes and shapes, which must be tied to the mast, integrating a system known as rigging, this allows taking advantage of the impulse that the air provides. Besides the fact that the sailboats use the force of the wind to move, their rigging allows them to sail with precision and stability even in headwinds.

Sailboats symbolize resilience in the face of adversity, control at critical moments, the power to never lose temperance. They can also represent the love for freedom, adventurous souls and the courage of the brave; persistence and endurance. Sailboats can be associated with the words: Homeward Bound: return home, as it relates to the return home, to the origins, the return to the starting point after a great trip.
