Wow! I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading this post! It may be because I also visited Mérida recently, but I didn't have the chance to engage in any exciting urban exploration. I was there "on business" too, supposedly, but that meant my wife and I were checking out some potential investment properties. Otherwise w hade a bit of fun on the beach (Progreso), some Mayan sites (Uxmal), and the safe and clean part of the city. We also had our teenage niece with us, so no chance for me to venture into the more adventurous areas of this allegedly "safest city in Mexico". Hence, your post is doing everything to make up for it. Thanx!
