Quick observation about current election in Czech republic... and my first bilingual post :)
Dnes a zítra jsou v České republice regionální a senátní volby. Osobně jsem čekal, že to bude hodně lidí zajímat a vznikne boj o odstranění či udržení Babišových poskoků u moci.
Czech Republic have regional and senate elections today + tomorrow. Personally I expected that many people will be interested and we will have fight for removal of Babis's(*1) Minions from positions of power.
Nicméně když jsem byl dnes volit tak jsem u volební komise na archu místních voličů viděl jen velmi, velmi málo odškrtnutých jmen. Drasticky méně než je obvyklé. Vůbec by mě nepřekvapila volební účast pod 15%, což je i na "malé" volby extrémně málo.
However when I voted today I saw very few names crossed on lists of voters. Drastically less than what's common. I wouldn't be surprised even by turnover bellow 15%, which is crazy low even for "minor" (*2) elections.
Napadá mě vysvětlení, že vláda v podstatě oznámila, že od pondělí bude zase nouzový stav covidový a všemožná opatření tak si lidi chtějí užít "poslední" víkend. Bar na náměstí na to rozhodně vypadal.
There is possible explanation that government(*3) de facto announced that they will start new State od Emergency due to covid next Monday, which will include various restrictions on people so they wanna enjoy "last" weekend. Bar on square suggested that for sure.
Je to úmysl? Pomůže to Babišovi? Je to nová, perverzní verze chlebu a zábavy? To ukáže pouze čas. Jakkoli je to možná trochu "podpásové" načasování věcí, tak pořád volby u nás považuji za férové a nemanipulované. Rozhodně nic jako Bělorusko nebo něco, co pravděpodobně letos čeká USA. Běžte volit.
Is it the intent? Will it help Babis? It this new, perverse version of Bread & Circuses? Only time will tell. Despite this being bit unfair timing of events our elections are still fair and high integrity. Definitely not like Belarus or something that probably awaits USA this year. Go vote. (today and here Czechs only ofc:))
*1 - Babis is leader of ANO party, current prime minister, billionaire businessman that gained substantial portion of his fortune due to various subsidies and similar things.
*2 - "Minor" is meant that its not most important election in country, that would be house of commons elections since they hold real power in Czech Republic. By this logic everything except president elections in USA would be considered "minor" Definitely not meant as unimportant.
*3 - Czech Republic have, like most European countries, multi party system. Current government is already mentioned Babis with his Party supported by Social Democratic Party and Communists.
