For me, this is one of the most touching Holocaust memorial site in Budapest, actually, in the very heart of the city.
It was erected to the memory of the (mostly Jewish) victims who were shot into the Danube at the end of the World War II. The fascist militia of the Arrow Cross Party in Hungary executed around 3.600 Jews on the river bank. They had to take off their shoes before they were shot and and the river took their bodies away...
