The View from Below the Mountains - Inks + Markers

This time around I felt the need to change my medium, so I switched to inks and markers this time. The pretty bird here is known as the Gouldian Finch. The bird is so brightly colored with colors ranging from purple, green, red, orange, blue & black. If you need a strong color palette for your next art piece, this bird is pretty good reference!

This time around, I wanted to experiment with channeling the world in my head to paper.
It sure felt good doing so!

PROCESS

Materials : Copic markers, Staedtler pencils, Unipin pens, Sinoart Sketchbook

I tried my best to not limit my imagination so I built the rest of the sketch around the bird

Next, I used the 0.3 pen as a second layer to the pencils, and also to separate dark areas from light areas through hatching.

Believe it or not, I’m slowly getting better at drawing hair, lol. For the final touch ups, I used the 0.8 pen to boldly outline some areas, and to give depth and a much natural feel to the illustration. In as much as I wanted to paint the full colors of the bird, I decided to stick with few colors, in the hopes that the bird is still easily recognizable.
