Mary Jane growing up only had one parent. At a little age she felt that a child was only supposed to have one parent. So it was weird when she came to school and found her friends had two parents. At the age of 3, she once asked her father, " Daddy where did mama go". Her father would tear up and sniff but his little daughter would notice the emotions on his face and laugh and kiss his forehead. When she was five, Mary Jane once had a dream of how her future would pan out to be, the first time she would go to school and her Dad would be there to take her, and how she would go to university and he took her there, how she would live in university and meet the love of her life and her dad would give her away at altar.
When she woke from her sleep she told her Dad that she knows how her future would be, he laughed because you can't trust the words of a five year old Mary Jane. He picked her up and said, "My baby is a seer, what a miracle". She chuckled as he made funny noises with his mouth.
Now Mary Jane had grown up to the point of high school, she sat in her classroom as the speakers blared out, "Mary Jane Thomas' report to the principal's office". She felt like it was just for calling her Nemesis, Maggie a cunt for trying to insult her best friend Elizabeth earlier that day.
Mary Jane grew up loving her Dad, and now she tried to make sence of what she just heard," that father was in a car crash and was in a coma in the hospital".
she stood in the principal's office as she felt as if she was about to faint.
She let out a scream as she felt like she was about to burst, she fell to the floor and cried her heart out. Her teacher rushed to her sides as they tried to comfort her.
She held onto the shoulders of her principal as she cried.
She sat in an Uber that was headed straight to the hospital, she got there and she stood at his bed shaking as she stared at him motionless strapped to a life support machine. She put her hand in his and she felt that it was cold, she felt a pain in her heart and she said,"Please don't leave me like mummy did". She sat by his side as her best friend Elizabeth tried to comfort her.
Sitting at her fathers side, maryjane felt so helpless, she was about to loose the only family she had on earth.
Elisabeth looked at her friend and saw sorrow all over , she felt broken. "It will all turnout good maryjane" Elizabeth said, "your father will survive, he isn't dead yet".
Walking home from the hospital that day Elizabeth got a call from her parents, they called to check up on her , she informed them of her reasons for not coming home early that day, and they felt bad as well. "Get back as soon as you can baby girl" Elizabeth's mom said.
Elizabeth met her parents in the living room waiting for her, they consoled and embraced her promising that everything will be alright. "Go up and freshen up"
They told her. She walked up the stairs and stopped at the end of hall as she stared at the door to Trevor's room she didn't know wherther to proceed or go back. On the door boldly written on a black cardboard paper, was "Stay Away". She knew that Trevor might have a crazy idea that could get her friend Mary Jane out of this pickle. And she knew Mary Jane, she would do anything even going to the point of selling her soul like her Uncle Willams did. The Thomas family has a daring spirit and she knew her friend so she knew that Trevor was the only solution.
She walked up to the door knocked three times and waited for a reply, there was no answer. So she opened the door and walked in. In the room posters of Ufo were pasted on the wall and there was very masculine stench in the room. She looked up and saw Trevor drolling as he played his Ps5 with an Akatsuki cloak and a foil shaped like a triangle on his head and a half eaten pizza in his mouth. Trevor once said he was abducted by aliens as a child and nobody believed him, some people believed he was crazy,so now his whole life is designed for event never happening again. He always surprised people around him, even though he was crazy he had a degree in MIT and graduated with very good grades. He was a tech genius that had all the money but decided to stay in his parents. His reason was that when the aliens come for him, he wants to be closest to who he loves the most.
As she entered the room, without looking up from his pad, he said,"Did you see the sign young lady ?" ." How many times have i warned you never to enter my room without permission?, am gonna shoot you one day you know", he said .
He paused his game and finally took his eyes off the screen , he threw his joystick on the floor and made his way to his scattered bed.
"Now what do you want this time madam"? Trevor asked. "I need your help, this might sound stupid but Mary Janes' father is currently in a coma"; she said. Trevor straighten up and payed more attention to what she was saying,"what do you mean he is in a coma?". "He was involved in a fatal accident ", Elizabeth replied. "And I was wondering if there is a way you could help out, i know you have been studying artificial intelligence and advanced technology". Trevor scratched his jaw as said,"
He stood up from his bed and made his way to his sister, holding her in his arms he gave her a tight hug ,"I'm so sorry for what happened to your friend , everything will definitely be alright", Trevor said, still hugging his sister.
Elizabeth felt so weird as her brother had never hugged her that way before.
"I might have something that will help but it's still just a prototype , it could all work out well but at the same time it could also be a calamity, and it's so dangerous".
Elizabeth's face lit up with sudden excitement as she said, "so you have something". Trevor made a face and said, "Didn't you hear me just say the words,"dangerous" and "calamity" in the same sentence, '' calm down woman".
"But it's possible isn't it?" Elizabeth said. "I just need to hear you say it's possible".
Trevor straightened up and walked back to his bed to sit, he looked at his sister with amazement,"this girl must have gone crazy he thought, well it's possible if that's what you want to hear but we aren't doing it". Thank you.
"We will see," Elizabeth thought.
The next day being the beginning of the weekend , Elizabeth got up so weak from bed , it was obviously because of all the crying. She took her bath and brushed her teeth , then she went downstairs to have her breakfast. She was going to spend the whole weekend with her friend in the hospital no matter what, when she was done she went to her parents room to inform them she was going to the hospital. "That's alright my dear, I and your mother will join you later in the day, say a nice hello to your friend for us", "alright daddy", Elizabeth replied.
Getting to the hospital that evening Elizabeth met her friend next to her dad ,she was just sitting there staring at him, greif refilled her heart as she felt sorry for her maryjane, she approached Mary Jane and hugged her tightly from the back, "it will be alright", she said , I spoke to my brother and he might have a way out . Mary Jane suddenly straightened up and looked at her friend. It was obvious she was interested."What do you mean?", she asked. I talked to my brother and he told me about a machine he has been working on for some time now, but he has refused to try it , he says it's too dangerous and he hasn't tested it before. An angry but excited expression appeared on Mary Janes' face." We are talking about my father here , I will do anything to get him back, whatever it takes!". "So what are we gonna do about my brother", Elizabeth asked. "We will have to convince him to give it a try", Mary Jane replied. At that moment Elizabeth's parents walked into the room.
They met Trevor together this time and on seeing her brother, they both burst into tears. Trevor looked confused because he had never seen his sister cry before and this was torment to watch. He finally said,"I would do it, but on one condition, at the first sight of danger, I am pulling you guys out". They looked confused as they stared at him out of confusion,"Pulling us out from where?",they asked. Trevor had a devilish grin on his face as he said, "out of your father's head", as he touched the forehead of Mary Jane. Elizabeth looked confused and asked,"Trevor is that even possible ". "Theoretically all we have to do is to project your consciousness into his mind, then you guys try waking him from the inside '',Trevor replied." I have been studying the brain cells to understand human impulses and emotions. What I am telling you is that there is a possibility of getting lost in his head and never coming back". "When you're in there, you have to find your father's consciousness and fast, if he doesn't want to wake up, he will try his best not to be found". "Why wouldn't he want to wake up?",Mary Jane asked. Trevor replied,"That's a question, you should find out for yourself"." I need three days to get the machine ready till then eat enough protein, hydrate and relax, your body will need enough amino acids for us to go through with this", Trevor said in a calm and serious voice. They both nodded and walked out of his room.
Trevor's words echoed in Mary Jane's head, "What did he mean by, if he wants to wake up?", She was lost for three days and on the last day, she came to see her father in the hospital and kissed his forehead. She said a small prayer and then went home. On the night of the third day she and Elizabeth sneaked into the hospital at night wearing clothes of nurses they found in the laundry department and Trevor waited in an ambulance truck at the other entrance of the hospital. They duo made it to his ward and pushed him to the elevator, they wore nose masks and stayed away from the obvious security cameras. They made it to the ambulance truck and Trevor zoomed off. The entire time they were on the way to Trevor's secret warehouse, Mary Jane did not let go of her father's hand.
Now they sat around the hospital bed in an abandoned warehouse, an open laptop was open on Trevor's desk and three helmets were plugged into a machine that looked like a huge C.P.U and was plugged to the computer. Elizabeth and Mary Jane said a little prayer together as they both wore their helmets, Mary Jane carried her father's own and then put it on his head. She and Elizabeth held hands as they looked over to Trevor and they gave him a nod of confirmation and then he clicked a key on the keyboard and they both fell asleep.
Mary Jane laid on something soft, it smelt like grass. She looked arond her world had become black and white. She did know where was she became afraid as she searched for Elizabeth. She saw Elizabeth laying beside her and she woke her up. In front of them they saw a very old bungalow, and a little boy hiding and staring through a door. They were both scared because of what this boy was looking at was making him fidget. They crawled to where the boy was and Mary Jane tried to speak but the boy put his fingers on his lips telling them,"Shhhh". They stared at what he looked at and Mary Jane stared at a face that seemed familiar," It was her grandfather". But a young version of her grandfather this one looked young, what made the boy fidget was that he had just shot somebody, that laid on the floor.

Mary Jane's Family came to American from South Sudan so her father and his father moved to the United States, that why they watched this incident in a bungalow, they were in Africa.
It made sense to Mary Jane that if she stared at her grandfather then the boy must be her father. She tried to talk to the boy but he stood up and ran away, Mary Jane and Elizabeth pursued him, he ran and came to a door that appeared out of nowhere. He opened the door and ran through it. The door closed and Mary Jane opened it.
Mary and Elizabeth both made their way through the door into a well lighted black and white room, it was a restaurant, a world class restaurant but the little boy was nowhere to be found. With movement of waiters carrying trays filled with food and drinks dressed in world class uniforms but moving so slowly, Mary Jane and Elizabeth wondered where they were, on a large banner close to the roof of the restaurant, where the words "restaurant el paris" that's probably the name of the restaurant they thought.
At the far end of the restaurant Mary Jane could see two couples having a lovely date ,engaged in a deep conversation , they both looked familiar, she tryed to have a better look and she could see it was her parents but they looked younger, she took Elizabeth by the hand and motioned for them to approach the couple but they noticed they moved so slow , like they were in a different timeline but they continued towards the couple . Getting closer Mary Jane could confirm that it was definitely her parents. Her mother looked so beautiful. She wore a beautiful white and black dress with shiny glittering red lipstick and a red rose pinned to her dress. She was stunning. The entire restaurant was black and whit but her mother's lips and rose on her dress were bright red. Her dad wore a black suit with a white top,nicely shaved and he looked so handsome. Mary Jane and Elizabeth tried to talk and touch the couple but it seemed like they didn't even notice their presence, like they were invincible, this was a memory. Mary Jane was so confused, "how am i going to wake my dad up with all this weird stuff happening, I have no idea what's going on". she thought.
At that moment Mary Jane looked up towards the lady's room and she saw the little boy walking into the toilet, they immediately made their way towards him but in slow motion, she opened the door and they found themselves in another different place.
They opened the door to a Motel and rain fell heavily, in the place the rain fell with a very naughty storm. They looked for shelter and Mary Jane saw a car in the driveway. The driver had appeared to be crying in the front seat, she looked closely and saw it was her father. She wanted to rush towards the car but she remembered what happened the last time she tried to make contact with him in the restaurant in Paris. The motel was weird and dark, the whole building was dark but only one room had it's light on. They walked upstairs to get to know more of their environment. On getting upstairs they saw the little boy he had appeared to have changed. He looked like a young adult now and he stared through the window of the only room with light. So Mary Jane stared at what he looked at. She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw her mother in a bed and a stranger laid beside her, she felt pain in her heart as she bit the under lip. Now she understood why her father cried in the driveway.
The Young Adult looked at her, wiped his tears and ran into a door at the end of the hall, they shouted,"wait " as they followed suit.
When they opened the door, they were in a place they were familiar with, this was Mary Jane house and her mother's car was in the driveway. The Young Adult they had been pursuing had aged and had breads now, he stood outside the door turned back and glanced at them and walked in. They could see him having an argument with Mary Jane's mother, then she opened the door with her belongings in her hands and left. Looking inside you could see little Mary Jane at the foot of the stairs.
Mary and Elizabeth made their way into the house to the living room where they saw her dad sitting on the couch sobbing uncontrollably, Mary moved slowly towards him, she called his name but this time he answered her ,she was so surprised as he didnt even notice her presense before, he looked up at her with a blank face ,it was obvious he was sad but she didnt know if he was happy to see her or not.
She sat on his laps and used her cloth to dry his face, "am so sorry you have to see all this baby girl, I didnt mean for it to turn out like this". "What do you mean?" , Mary Jane asked. Her father continued,"My whole life has been built for disaster from the beginning, and its my fault you are a part of it, I had a terrible child hood which has affected you in terrible ways and its all my fault that you have to grow up without your mother , I have been a coward all my life and i dont think i deserve to continue living" . At that moment Mary Jane knew she was talking to her fathers conciousness, he was the little boy they had been after from the beginning but now he was fully grown up, "you are the best father anyone can wish for , and I will want to be your daughter in this life and the next ,I love you dad and I known it's not your fault that mom left, she cheated on you despite all your love and affection for her ,she was a coward and she will always remain that way to me". "I also know you had a bad childhood but without all this memories I have just seen, I wouldn't have had a clue, because you never showed it, you single handedly brought me up and I will forever appreciate that no matter what". She was sniffing now as she said,"Daddy I want you to live for me, daddy please wake up". He held his daughter tight and he forced his eyes open.
Trevor looked up from his laptop and saw as Mary Jane's father wake up from his coma as well as Elizabeth and Mary Jane. He leaped for joy and called himself a genius.
