The capital of my country is the majestic ancient Kyiv. This is the city of contrasts. Noisy metropolis, where you can find many quiet places. The city is over 1500 years old and at the same time so young, full of constant development. The river of Dnipro is a real decoration of Kyiv and thanks to it there are so many beautiful landscapes there!

I can not boast that I know the capital well, although I have been there many times. Every time I feel a holiday in my soul when I go out from Kyiv railway station. Some kind of elevation. So it was this time, when the singers of my choir and I got off the bus at 6 am. It was Sunday, August 22. A wonderful weekend to remember. I want to share my impressions with you:)
On Sofia Square
Я не можу похвалитися, що добре знаю столицю, хоча була там досить багато разів. Кожного разу відчуваю якесь свято в душі, коли виходжу із київського залізничного вокзалу. Якесь піднесення. Так було і цього разу, коли ми зі співаками мого хору вийшли з автобуса о 6 ранку. Це була неділя 22 серпня. Чудовий вікенд, який запам'ятається. Я хочу поділитися з вами враженнями:)

We arrived for the festive liturgy associated with the visit of the Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew to Ukraine. Since my choir is a church choir, we were a kind of delegates from our city. The morning greeted us with the sun that had just risen and freshness. How it's beautiful!
Ми приїхали на святкову літургію, пов'язану з приїздом в Україну Вселенського православного Патріарха Варфоломія. Оскільки мій хор є церковний, то ми були своєрідними делегатами від нашого міста. Ранок зустрів нас сонцем, яке щойно зійшло, і свіжістю.
We had to get to the courtyard of the ancient St. Sophia Cathedral, where the service was to take place. However, since there was still a long time to beginning, we decided to take a walk nearby. This is the city center. Here is the history at every step!!! First we went to St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery.
We were allowed to pass only after the inspection (food, drinks and sharp objects should be left at the entrance).
Нам слід було потрапити у подвір'я давнього Софійського собору, де мала відбутися служба. Оскільки було ще багато часу до початку, ми вирішили прогулятися неподалік. Це є центр міста. Тут на кожному кроці красива архітектура!!! Спочатку ми подалися у Михайлівський золотоверхий монастир. Нас пропустили лише після перевірки (їжу, напої і гострі предмети було заборонено вносити, ми лишили деякі речі при вході, щоб потім забрати. Справа в тому, що у той день у монастирі було багато відомих релігійних осіб).
The cathedral impressed us with its large size, bright blue color and beautiful stucco details on the facade. This is a very ancient temple! However, it was very much destroyed during the Soviet era and rebuilt almost from scratch. There was a service inside, so I didn't take photos so as not to distract the believers.
Собор вразив нас своїм великим розміром, яскраво блакитним кольором і гарними ліпними деталями на фасаді. Це дуже давній храм! Проте він був дуже сильно знищений у радянський час і відбудований майже з нуля. Всередині йшла служба, тому я не фотографувала, щоб не відволікати віруючих.
In this place I love the quiet apple orchard and the very old refectory church, which is authentic because it has not been destroyed. It always amazes me that there is such peace in the center of a big city.
У цьому місці я найбільше люблю тихий яблуневий сад і дуже стару трапезну церкву, яка є автентичною, адже не була знищена. Мене завжди дивує, як у центрі великого міста є такий затишок.
Then we decided to take a walk in the park Volodymyrska Hirka (Hill), which begins behind the St. Michael's Monastery. This sunny morning... This unusual desolation... This not bad coffee. Everything brought me quiet joy.
There are several places in the park from where you can see the Dnipro. One of these is next to the gazebo, where you can relax on a bench. And next to it there is an interesting modern fountain, which depicts the Archangel Michael and the temples of Kiev. Archangel Michael is the patron saint of Kyiv.
Далі ми вирішили прогулятися парком Володимирська гірка, що починається позаду Михайлівського монастиря. Цей сонячний ранок... Це незвичне для столиці безлюддя... Ця кава. Все приносило мені тиху радість. У парку є декілька місць, звідки видно Дніпро. Одне з таких є поряд з альтанкою, де можна відпочити на лавочці. А поряд цікавий сучасний фонтан, який зображає Архістратига Михаїла і київські храми. Архангел Михаїл є покровителем Києва.
After a short walk we returned to St. Sophia Cathedral. In order to enter the yard, you also had to pass an inspection, so there was a huge queue. I decided to try:) A little patience and I'm inside.
There were many people, but the territory is large. I don't like crowds at all, but it was comfortable here. Many priests from Ukraine and Greece came to this event. Therefore, the service was held in two languages. It was a little unusual, but interesting! I liked the choir the most.
Ми знову повернулись до Собору Софії. Для того щоб зайти у двір, слід було також пройти перевірку, тому утворилася величезна черга. Мої дівчата не захотіли стояти у ній і пішли гуляти далі. А я вирішила спробувати:) Трохи терпіння і я - всередині. Людей було доволі багато, але й територія велика. Я взагалі не люблю натовпів, але тут було комфортно. На цю подію приїхало чимало священиків з України і Греції. Тому служба проходила двома мовами. Це було трохи незвично, але цікаво! Найбільш мені сподобався хор. Ну і сама територія Софійського собору!
This is a museum. Since the temple is very old, no services are held there (only on the yard)! I was impressed by the size of the building, its slender proportions and the spirit of antiquity. And I really like when part of the wall on old buildings is left without plaster to open the material from which everything was built. Now I have a new dream: to visit inside. After all, St. Sophia originated in the 11th century and withstood all kinds of attacks and wars.
Це є музей. Оскільки храм дуже давній, то там не проводять богослужіння! Мене вразила величина будівлі, її стрункі пропорції і дух старовини. Дуже люблю, коли на давніх будівлях залишають частину стіни без штукатурки, щоб відкрити матеріал, з якого було все збудовано. Тепер у мене з'явилася нова мрія: побувати всередині церкви. Адже вона виникла в 11 столітті і встояла упродовж всіляких нападів та воєн.
After the Liturgy, we met my friend Olya, who agreed to take a tour of the city, and continued our walk.
Our attention was drawn to a modern house with an American flag. There is a joint Ukrainian-American firm. And in the basement of this house the foundations of the ancient Rus palace were excavated! It belonged to Prince Volodymyr.
Now we can watch the find through the glass!
Після Літургії ми зустріли мою подругу Олю, яка погодилася провести екскурсію містом, і продовжили нашу прогулянку. Нашу увагу привернув сучасний будинок з американським прапором. Там розташована якась спільна україно-американська фірма. А у підвалі цього дому було розкопано фундаменти давньоруського палацу, що належав князю Володимиру! Зараз ми можемо спостерігати знахідку через скло!
This linden has been growing in the center of the city for over 400 years. It was planted by Hetman Sagaidachny.
Below you can see the majestic building of the Museum of History. Such an interesting object is attached to its facade. This is what Rus money "hryvna" looked like in the Middle Ages.
Suddenly we approached St. Andrew's Church. It has been under restoration for many years! The foundation was strengthened on the outside, and the frescoes and the beautiful iconostasis were completely restored on the inside. This temple is a pearl of baroque and I am so glad that I finally got there.
From the churchyard there are wonderful views of the Dnieper and Kiev. Somewhere far away there are skyscrapers. And here everything is different. We were also impressed by the interior of the temple. Sculptures, gilding, red iconostasis background. Everything is festive and solemn. Now this church, built in the 18th century by the Russian Empress Elizabeth, is a museum.
Аж ось несподівано ми підійшли до Андріївської церкви. Багато років вона була на реставрації! Ззовні укріпляли фундамент, а всередині повністю відновлювали розписи і красивий іконостас. Цей храм є перлиною бароко і я така рада, що нарешті туди потрапила. Із подвір'я церкви відкриваються чудові краєвиди Дніпра і Києва. Десь далеко там є хмарочоси. А тут все по-іншому. Також нас вразив інтер'єр храму. Скульптури, позолота, червоний фон іконостасу. Все святкове і урочисте. Тепер ця церква, побудована а 18 столітті російською імператрицею Єлизаветою, є музеєм.
Далі ми пройшли алеєю художників, де митці продають свої картини. Нашою метою був музей води, який я запропонувала відвідати. І ось вдалині ми побачили цікаву башту. А про відвідини цього незвичайного місця я розповім наступного разу:)
Next we passed the alley of artists, where artists sell their paintings. Our goal was a water museum, which I offered to visit. And in the distance we saw an interesting tower. About visiting this unusual place I will tell next time:)
