Weekend Wandering 2 | We Got Our Keys!

Perhaps one of the first major decisions we made as a couple is investing in a house we can call our own. As both breadwinners, we know exactly how it feels to like to have responsibilities, so we want to make sure we're not missing out on something important - our future.

And this weekend, we were able to secure the keys to the house we can call our own!

A brief backstory

I can still vividly remember last year, my girlfriend and I are having an emotional talk about our childhood dreams and plans for our respective families. It happened after we joined several site visits of housing projects in Bulacan. We found out how intensely we want not to settle with the kind of life we're used to and that we want to dream big for our future. But for this to happen, we need to conquer our fears and begin to step out in faith.

So after giving it many thoughts and prayers, we both decided to push through in purchasing our soon-to-be home. The best time is now, as we both believe.

Regular visits

It is overwhelming to witness how the fruit of our prayer slowly takes some form - from a boring structure to what it looks like today. One more favor that we receive is that the property owner on one side chooses to leave it as a vacant lot (perhaps for future extension or for parking).

How our weekend went

I first fetched Gladys from Caloocan where she lived. Then we commuted to SJDM where we stopped at a carinderia to have our breakfast because we craved some hot home-cooked meals. Afterward, we took an e-jeep and we're surprised to know that they offer free rides! A few bucks saved!

Since we arrived at the exact lunchtime of the staff, we waited for quite an hour before we're accommodated by the resident engineer of the village. And when their break is finished, the keys were handed over to us! We felt ecstatic!

We went to our soon-to-be home, checked in some of the areas that still need improvement, and congratulated each other for an overwhelming milestone.

Ending the day

Afterward, we went to Starmall once again via the free e-jeep ride. We immediately checked for some home furniture and appliances we can save for our future home. It felt like playing house, but this time it's for real! We enjoyed roaming around the sofas and beds, refrigerators and ACs, as well as curtains and home decors.

We teased each other about our need to invest in power tools and the need to learn how to do home repairs. Indeed, venturing into family life is not easy - it takes readiness and mental fortitude. But it's exciting for sure!

As a treat to ourselves before we hit home, we had rested for half an hour on a massage chair. However, nothing beats the joy of having a real person massaging your tired body. Maybe we'll have that on another weekend.

We parted ways after taking a short visit to Fairview Terraces to buy some pasalubong for our respective families.
