Nigerians and Dollar Sentiment - Price goes up in GP, but comes down in AP

It's a known fact that a lot of industries are struggling at the moment. All thanks to the Covid drama which its aftermath is still eating deep into many businesses.

And I heard that some countries are still on lockdown. Daymn! How on Earth will people cope in such places?

With lockdown in place, there will be nobody to patronize some businesses and these businesses will end up struggling to pay their workers. Little wonder why individuals are also struggling with a lot of financial issues. Anyone that doesn't earn as much as they use to earn before will find it hard to put food on his table. Paying off mortgage, taking up health care facilities and handling other bills becomes so much of a burden for people to cope with.

I've been discussing with a Pakistan friend about how much things have changed due to the pandemic and its effect. Over there, they have endured different phases of the pandemic, but there is still no hope for good news. He said that despite being someone that earns online, the pressure that comes with this dicey pandemic era is highly felt by his household. This isn't an issue that is limited to breadwinners. Everyone is feeling the pressure including students.

The same pressure can be felt by people across other parts of the world. The pressure is real!

Many have already lost their job with no hope of being called back. Those of them that still has a job are being underpaid. What they get is no match to their expenses. All thanks to inflationary pressure.

What about countries that are not on lockdown?

Are they any better?

In this case, I will be referring to Nigeria because that's where I'm staying at the moment and I know how dramatic things are becoming over here.

For a fact, Covid19 was never a major threat to the citizens. I can still recall how we all made fun of Covid by saying that Povid (i.e Poverty) is a bigger threat than whatever the pandemic comes with. Of course, there is an element of truth attached to this. That's the sad truth of a glorified third world country.

Don't get it twisted, I know that this tends to kill. I also know that a lot of people in this country died because of Covid19. But whatever the statistics says, I'm pretty sure that a lot more have lost their life due to underemployment, substandard health facilities, poverty, just to mention a few.

For the record, I choose not to mention any politics related variable. It's a major threat to the country as a whole. For lack of a more rigid term, I will say that it's the MAIN ISSUE that Nigeria is facing. Not Covid19 or any naturally disastrous whatever.

As I said, I don't want to yap about politics at the moment!

To all Nigerians, Lemme remind you of our reality;

Have you been to the market recently?

Just yesterday, I went to buy petrol, and noticed that there was a sudden price hike from #165 to #350 (i.e more than a 100% price increase within few hours) per litre. The major reason they gave for this is that Nigeria's Naira (#) is losing value against Dollar ($). Due to this, petrol stations started setting ridiculous price per litre.

I also went for a haircut and I was charged a ludicrously high amount for a 30 minutes haircut. In this same manner, all product and service providers are double the selling price of whatever they have to offer.

I can't blame them for this. They also have to put food on their table and if it means pricing their goods or services at a ludicrous amount, they will do it.

I also can't support them. Knowing Nigerians for what we are capable of doing, even if we wake up to see that 1 Naira equals 1 Dollar, the cost of goods and services may not obey that trend.

Yeah. That's our country!
Welcome to a place where the price goes up in Geometric progression but comes down in Arithmetic progression. It's all part of the economic cruise.
