The future of the unbanked - El futuro de los no bancarizados

For some time I have been insisting that the use of cryptocurrencies is intensifying in Latin America, the fundamental reasons are several, namely: high inflation that destroys saving power and confidence in the local currency, high taxes and bank fees, restrictions to the acquisition of the foreign currency, an increase in the informal economy and high percentages of people in a precarious situation and without banking services.

All these ingredients form an unstable, not to mention explosive cocktail, and ordinary people who cannot access profitable savings and investment tools or who do not have foreign accounts, are gradually turning over the use of cryptocurrencies.

Those who fear volatility lean towards stablecoins and many others to traditional ones like bitcoin, Ethereum, and several others that allow for good diversification and different returns.

I like to be aware of the news about cryptocurrencies, I must learn and be prepared to make decisions that affect and will affect my income and holdings; Among everything I read today there is one that I found interesting and that is in line with what I maintain, it is related to a bank in England called Standard Chartered, to be honest, I found out that it has more influence in emerging markets in Asia (The government of Singapore owns a significant percentage of the entity) and Africa and not so much in the United Kingdom.

Specialists from its cryptography research and analysis division have issued a statement predicting that bitcoin will double its current price, reaching at least $ 100,000 by early 2022, but that is not the most relevant part of the statement, it is not even news.

Surprisingly, many other analysts have mentioned similar increases. The novelty is that later in the report, he warns that this currency could become a predominant payment method for the unbanked in the near future that is anticipated without cash.

The manager of the division named Geoffrey Kendrick, who is also the global head of its emerging market, communicated this study last Tuesday to his clients, in a circular that caused some surprise. Of course, they do not live in Latin America.
