SPI Giveaway for September NO-BUY Month
This is the last week for the September SPI NO-BUY giveaways and another great challenge starting below! How did you do? Here's @shanibeer's final report for NO-BUY September. She's going to do it again for October, how about you?
So, we asked for comments about how the no-buy month has been for you:
- what worked and what didn't, how would you change things another time.
- any new ideas you picked up that you're going to keep doing.
- any interesting things you learned.
We had some great comments - the no-buy month helped @metzli review her shopping habits and introduce some changes; @bashadow did really well and avoided FOMO-ing any new tokens, making great progress towards existing goals; and @missaj and @justclickindiva reduced takeout and entertainment expenses; @bearmol, @phoenixwren and @ericburgoyne kept focused on their savings goals. All in all, a great month!
We also had some good clues about potential lessons:
- @riandeuk made the NO-BUY month almost by accident, it seems. This gives us a clue about the power of setting intentions, so that even without apparently thinking about it, somewhere in the background, your brain is working away at your intention.
- @jfang003 and @shanibeer both had contingencies to manage during the month - those days when, for one reason or another, you're just not up to preparing and cooking (it's going to happen). For @shanibeer, the solution is to have some ready-made meals in the freezer and pantry.
- @metzli spoke about paying attention to what's going on. Sometimes habits just develop over time, maybe in response to circumstances, and when you stop and look, you decide to do things differently.
- @bearmol talked in the comments about the importance of having a network of like-minded, supportive people around to help you reach your goals.

October Side-Gig Month - LBI Giveaway!
Yes, it's here - we love saving money and we like making money even more! Every Saturday for 5 Saturdays, we're going to look at opportunities to earn a little on the side that don't require qualifications and don't require a huge outlay in capital. This week we are going to start with the most obvious one - selling things! Here's a few ideas to get you going:
- sell things you don't need any more - casual sales can be listed online through facebook, gumtree, craigslist and many more or have a yard or garage sale (I love this one). Many places have a local market and sometimes specialise in retro or second-hand on certain days where you can book an occasional stall.
- sell things you make - could be celebration cakes, pies, jams and jellies - through word of mouth to neighbours, friends and family or crafted items through craft fairs (or the market stall above) or through platforms like Etsy.
- if you love selling, offer to sell items on behalf of other people for a small fee to cover your time and costs or specialise in trading in something that interests you - jazz vinyl records, old books, vintage clothing through on and offline channels.

For example, in England, if you are selling food, you need to register with your local council. We'd also love to hear your experiences if you've done any of these.
EDSM Monthly Sales
Last week, I asked for ideas about growing the Saturday Savers Club and the EDS income token fund. We had lots of great ideas from @justclickindiva (extra SPI heading your way - check your wallet), including regular sales of EDSM miners.
I'm pleased to announce that there will be 20 EDSM on sale at 9 HIVE every second Saturday, starting Saturday 9 October (that's next week), then 13th November and 11th November. Remember you can buy fractions of EDSMs and stake them to start mining as well as whole miners!

More about EDS tokens
EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.
Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 23%.

1. Check Progress
Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 2 October, was 19.04p. Next week, we'll be saving 19.53p and by Saturday we'll have saved 397.80p (that's 39,780p just compounding a penny a day)! 😁.
Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.
Here's this week's results - 19.04p buys 30.56 Hive.
970 Hive saved in 40 weeks (870 Hive powered up and the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM)! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 20% on EDSM, 23% on EDS tokens and a little on curating and posting!
@susie-saver powered up this week's savings on 1 October as part of Hive Power Up Day - did you take part? She's also been voting following a curation trail. She's reached her first milestones of 530HP and Minnow status. Her next goal is 1,000HP. She's already at 870HP - what's your prediction for when she will reach 1,000HP? Tell us in the comments!
