Are the politicians from my country reliable? And how can blockchain and crypto solve some of these issues?

I am Venezuelan, so as most people probably know, the politicians of this country are among the worst ones in the entire world. They are not only complete hypocrites, but they are also thieves, drug dealers, and probably even terrorists. Saying they aren’t reliable would be too gentle to be honest.

I would like to mention several examples of absurd decisions taken by the political class of this country that proves their evil intentions are real and I will also mention how crypto and blockchain technology could help solve and prevent some of these tragedies from happening again.

  • They imposed a currency exchange control at the beginning of the 2000s.

  • There is no single example in the history of humanity, where a currency exchange control has led to a wealthier and more prosperous society. The way to prosperity is through freedom, including economic freedom of course, not to rigorous control that sucks the life out of people’s financials.

The excuse to impose the currency exchange control was to stop people from taking their capital out of the country. They thought imprisoning people’s financials was good for the future of the economy, and they created a public organism that would decide which citizen and company had access to a limited number of foreign currency at the official exchange rate. The rest of the people had to deal with the black market which used a much more expensive exchange rate.

The result of this was the creation of corrupt networks linked to the political elite, that obtained cheap dollars at the official exchange rate thanks to their political connections, and then they either dumped those dollars in the black market, magically multiplying their money, or they imported products to sell them after calculating their costs using the black market exchange rate. This way people with enough political connections were able to turn themselves into millionaires overnight.

They also imposed price controls which led to the scarcity of all sorts of products and some businesses ended up bankrupt because they couldn’t cover their operative costs by selling the products at the price indicated by the government.

This can be solved with cryptocurrencies because anyone can use them and put their savings into crypto. In fact, one of the reasons many Venezuelans use cryptocurrencies is because our local currency is the worst in the world. With cryptocurrencies, everyone has an option to safeguard their financials.

  • The local currency was quickly destroyed by overprinting it.

  • In the past, I believe it was around the 50s, the Venezuelan currency Bolivars was even more valuable than American dollars for a short amount of time. The current socialist government which has been in power since 1999 has turned the Bolivar into the worst-performing currency on the planet.

The way the Bolivar was destroyed is because the government is constantly needing money to pay for its social programs, which is how they earn their votes. Since the politicians are very busy stealing money from everywhere, they decide to finance these expenses by creating new Bolivars. This results in a strong devaluation of the currency which got even worse when the government decided to remove zeroes from the bills. They first removed 3 zeroes, which means 1000 Bolivars were now 1, and years later they removed 5 more Zeroes, which means 100000 of the new Bolivars were now 1. In total, they have removed 8 zeroes from the currency which is a total mess.

Right now most people are using American dollars to pay for stuff, and the use of crypto is increasing as well as mentioned in the point above.

  • They have stolen companies and land in the “name of the people”

  • This is called expropriation, which is when a government takes by force the control of a privately owned property. They convinced their low IQ voters this was a good thing because after the expropriation these companies and farmland will produce to benefit the people and not the “selfish owner”.

What happened after this was very obvious. They stole what they could of these expropriated properties, and left the carcass to rot. Almost all the expropriated companies went bankrupted and the expropriated farmland is unproductive.

  • Rigged elections

  • I mentioned low IQ voters in the above point, and that was the case in their first elections from the late 90s to the early 00s. However, it is my belief they eventually started to fake the election results. No one trusts the public organism known as CNE, which is the one that counts the votes and is completely under the control of the government.

As far as I know, there isn’t actual proof of any fraud ever being committed, but it is also true that it is impossible to obtain proof without a proper audition of the vote-counting process. Most people, and by now I should also include the international community, suspect the Venezuelan elections are completely rigged. They sometimes let the opposition win some elections, but these are always minor elections with little to no impact on the country. Given the fact Venezuela is a complete mess, I find it impossible to believe the majority of the voters still support this government, even if a lot of them might be low IQ.

  • They don’t respect free speech

  • There have been countless examples of the current government making life impossible for journalists who criticize them. They have even closed media companies, and have blocked websites that publish news articles that are critical to the government. Some journalists have even go to prison for expressing negative views about the government.

I could continue on and on sharing the disastrous things the current government has made but you get the picture by now. Can a government that does all of this be considered trustworthy? Of course not, this is clearly one of the worst governments on the planet and they have kidnapped Venezuela to use it as their base of operations for their criminal activities. Instead of a government, they are an example of organized crime taking over a country by selling to gullible voters the Kool-Aid of socialism.

Let me know what do you think about Venezuela’s situation, and feel free to write about the politicians of your own country. I think most people have a negative view of politicians but perhaps there are countries with a well-run government, who knows...

    Thanks for reading!
