Mobile Blogging

Yes, people! You read it right! Mobile blogging is a thing. People really do it. I do. Massively. The majority of my Hive blogs are created via my mobile phone -- from photography, cover image editing, HTML, etc. - I do most of them on my phone.

It takes a lot of getting used to, but it is doable.

So imagine my delight when I discovered about the Hive Keychain for mobile.

Hive Keychain, developed by @stoodkev, is an extension for accessing Hive-enabled distributed applications, or "Dapps" in your normal Chrome browser. If you haven't started using it yet, I really think you should. We cannot really be too careful with our Hive accounts. I came about this comprehensive review of the Hive Keychain extension which you can also refer to for more information.

Hive Keychain for Mobile

Hive Keychain for mobile is available for both Android and iOS users. More information about setting up the app can be found here:

Not Maximizing The App

So yes, I have had this application on my phone for a few months already, but I barely used it. I was using Chrome mobile browser to access peakD and could pretty much do anything there - using HiveSigner.

How do is even use this app?

Was a question that popped in my head, when every Hive Dapp I used would not connect to it. At the most, I just used it as a repository of my keys and if I need to login somewhere, say Splinterlands app, I had to still copy-paste my posting key!

That did not make any sense to me. If the purpose of the app was to encrypt my keys, then why then am I not able to use it?

So just like that, I totally ignored the app for many months.

... until last night.

As I was coaching a friend on how to access her splinterlands account, I had to log off/log in the app. When logging in again, I was asked for my posting key. Nope, I do not want to copy-paste my keys again!

Re-discovering the Hive Keychain For Mobile

So upon setting up your Hive accounts on the app (again refer to the linked article above on how to do this) you will see your Hive wallet details - primary coins (Hive, Hive Power, HBD) and another tab for tokens.

Here on this page you can also find any pending rewards to be claimed, resource credits, voting power, and vote value.

Useful, but there's much more!

Those 3 little dots!

Now I am not sure if this button was here before, but more functions can be accessed with these little dots at the top of the page, more specifically the BROWSER.

Once you enter the browser, you can explore the Hive dapps currently supported by the Hive Keychain.

Upon clicking the "plus" (+) icon at the bottom, you will see these options.

Tool

So far, I have successfully connected the PeakD, Splinterlands, and LeoDex dapps via the Hive Keychain. I tried to connect through DBuzz but instead of logging me on, it was still asking for the posting key to be entered.

There is also an option to mark the URL's as favorite and see your browsing history. I have yet to find the option to "clear browsing history" though.

I am really happy that I was able to explore the Hive Keychain app last night. It makes using our Hive accounts safer especially on the mobile phone where the display screens are small and accidental clicks/copy-paste actions could land us to big problems with our account (aka hacks).

BTW, as I was browsing through this morning, I found this post by @ylich about his review of the Hive Keychain for mobile. What a coincidence! LOL. I had second thoughts about posting this topic but since I have already taken screenshots from the app while exploring it last night, I might as well do. 😉

I hope you do consider using Hive Keychain - Chrome extension and for mobile, if you haven't. It is a tool all of us Hive users must have!

Many thanks to the @keychain devs and team for creating this for us!
