Hello everyone, this time I will review a drama or series that is booming lately. The drama with the title Squid Game tells the story of a game filled with people who are entangled in financial problems, many of whom suffer from debts that they cannot pay.
This drama with the thriller genre is unique because the games played are traditional Korean children's games, games that are light and fun. Who would have guessed that a cheerful game turned into a threat and full of tension between participants. There are 6 games to play over 6 days.
THE MAIN CHARACTER
Starting with Song Gi Hun, played by Lee Jung Jae. A driver and gambling addict who lives with his mother struggling to make ends meet financially in order to get custody of his daughter who lives with his ex-wife. While eating together, the mother gives money and asks Gi Hun to buy good food for his daughter because it is his daughter's birthday. Gi Hun who has no money tries his luck by taking his mother's money and gambling. At first he lost, then tried again and he won because he put the numbers according to his daughter's birthday. He was very happy and even gave a tip to the cashier.
While walking out, Gi Hun who realized that he was being stalked by debt collectors rushed to run away and accidentally bumped into a woman. Unknowingly the money was gone. Because was stolen by the woman earlier. He too was forced to agree to a contract with a debt collector to give him his organs if he was unable to pay.
On the other hand, the woman who was hit by Gi Hun earlier is actually a North Korean defector who is trying to find a way so that her mother can be released and bring her sister who is in an orphanage home. With the money he stole from Gi Hun he hopes the Brokers can help him. Who would have thought that he was cheated and he too had to lose the money. The woman is Kang Saebyeok played by Jung Ho Yeon.
Then there is Cho Sang Woo, played by Park Hae Seo, who is an honor student at Seoul National University and works as the head of the Investment Team of a securities company. He follows the game because to replace the client's money he used.
Then there is Ali Abdul, played by Anupam Tripathi. An immigrant who comes from Pakistan who tries his luck due to the economic difficulties that make him join this game.
And then there's Oh Il Nam. An old man who claims to have a brain disease and plays games just for fun because of his short age.
At that time, Gi Hun who had promised his daughter was forced to come back to the cashier and ask for the tip he gave earlier. From the money he tried to get toys for his daughter's birthday present.
While Gi Hun was waiting for the train to go home, a man in a neat suit came and offered Gi Hun some money just for playing a game. Gi Hun who is interested tries it and he manages to bring some money, and the man gives a card with a phone number.
Long story short, Gi Hunpun finally tried to follow the game and tried to get his luck. Initially all participants did not know that the game was a game that risked their lives, they thought they were only asked to play and if they lost they would be sent home.
GAME 1 - GREEN LIGHT RED LIGHT.
The game starts from a traditional Korean children's game, when the doll says "Mugunghwa Kkoci Pieot Seumnida" the participants are allowed to run or move towards the finish line, and are not allowed to move when the doll is facing the participant. If you move, you will be eliminated, and unexpectedly that elimination is meant to shoot him to death. This caused an uproar and turned into a chaos that resulted in half of the participants having to lose their lives.
WE WANT TO GO HOME
After the first game many participants were shocked and asked to stop and insisted that they be sent home. according to the contract signed by all participants before the start of the game, it is stated that "the game can be stopped if the majority of the participants' votes agree". Then a voting agreement is made, agreeing to go home or continue playing. Before voting, the committee announced the prize which made the participants hesitate, and made the vote result 50:50. Luckily, participant 001 chose not to continue the game, because the odd number of participants in the end asked the majority of the votes to be stopped, and they were sent home.
LIFE OUTSIDE IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT.
After they were returned to their respective homes, they also lived their lives as before. They think this is much better, but they are wrong and their lives are a mess.
As experienced by Gi Hun, it turns out that his mother suffers from diabetes and has a wound on her leg, the mother is asked to immediately undergo surgery which requires a large amount of money. He also tried to borrow money from anywhere he even came to his ex-wife who lives luxuriously with her new husband to borrow money. But unlucky for Gi Hun, he will indeed be given money on the condition that Gi Hun forget his daughter. This made Gi Hun angry and threw the money away and left.
WE'RE BACK.
When Gi Hun returns to his house, he finds on his door the same card as before, a card with a strange logo and a phone number. Gi Hun was indecisive, and finally decided to join the game again because of the insistence of his mother's operating costs. After arriving in the empty room where the game was taking place, Gi Hun found several people back. People who previously followed the game.
GAME 2 - DALGONA CANDY.
Dalgona candy, a candy made from melted sugar and added a little backing soda. This very popular and delicious snack for children is a stressful test because they have to risk their lives. You are asked to carve the Dalgona candy according to the picture on the candy, if you fail or there is a slight defect in the shape. Your lives will be lost.
DO NOT BE ALONE IN A GROUP.
After the second game they were only given a little food, which was deliberately made by the committee so that the atmosphere became hot and they would attack each other. As expected, there were some people who deliberately queued twice to take more food rations so that some people didn't get it. It became a conflict and made them attack each other. What they think is "If you kill a lot of people, there will be less competition". That night became very scary.
Gi Hun who already has several friends such as Cho Sang Woo, Ali and Il Nam invites Saebyok who is alone to join him, because he knows that she can be in danger if she is alone. When night fell, the committee deliberately played with the lights by turning them on and off quickly and making the atmosphere even more tense. In an instant several people died because they attacked each other. Luckily, Saebyok also joined Gi Hun's group. Until the committee finished with the action the lights were turned on normally.
GAME 3 – TUG OF WAR
The next game is Tug of War. This game played in groups becomes a tragic game because it must be played at a height that can make people who fall die instantly.
When it starts, participants are asked to form groups of 10 people, and they don't know what game they are going to play. They were just trying to make a group with strong enough members. The game starts and some of the players are surprised because their members are weak members, including the Gi Hun Group which contains 3 girls and 1 elderly person. Without giving up, they won the game with the help of Il Nam and Sang Woo's ideas.
GAME 4 – MARBLES
Marbles are small ball-shaped toys made of glass, these objects can be played in any way. Some guess the number, some deliberately throw the distance, some play it by throwing it into the hole and so on. This game is the fourth game and a game that is full of emotions for the players. Just imagine that you are asked to choose a partner or friend in this game but in the end you have to fight your partner. A total of 31 participants and the difference of one being the "Child of Bawang" the name for participants who are allowed not to take part in the game.
GAME 5 – GLASS BRIDGE
There are 16 participants left and they are asked to take a number as the order of the game. Because he was indecisive, Gi Hun finally got the last number. The door to the room was opened, and the participants looked surprised because there was a bridge made of glass on each side with different glass strengths. Some are strong enough to support 2 people and some are fragile. If you take a wrong step then you will fall from a height causing you to die.
Gi Hun feels lucky because the number pinned to him is the last number, and he only needs to follow the participant in front of him. One by one the participants fell and died until there were 3 people left, namely Gi Hun, Sang Woo and Saebyeok. The bridge exploded and injured the participants.
LUXURY DINNER
After the Glass Bridge game, they were asked to dress neatly and eat good food. They looked confused but still ate it, not with saebyeok who was in pain because of the wound on his stomach that was hit by a very deep glass shard, his face was pale and had no appetite.
After dinner they were each given a knife and returned to the waiting room. While waiting they were wary of each other and suspicious of each other but not with Gi Hun who was worried to see Saebyeok's condition then approached her and realized that Saebyeok was seriously injured.
Gi Hun ran towards the door and asked the committee to help her and bring a doctor, in despair Gi Hun kept knocking on the big door. And the committee opened the door and came out with a chest indicating that someone had died. Gi Hun runs and finds that Sang Woo has killed her.
GAME 6 - SQUID GAME
The last game arrived, and only 2 people left, namely Gi Hun and Sang Woo. Their friendship became an enmity as only 1 person could survive and win which would bring a cash prize of 45.6B Won. When the game starts they play the game they played together when they were kids. Same game but not with the atmosphere.
Long story short, Gi Hun was able to paralyze Sang Woo but he didn't want to kill him, he asked the committee to cancel the game and asked to be sent home. Hearing this, Sang Woo kills himself so that Gi Hun becomes the winner.
FEEL GUILTY
The game is over and the money has been earned by Gi Hun, but there is no happiness in him and no pride in him. He just became a guilty person for the rest of his life, he didn't even touch the prize money.
