It is curious how a format that presents us with infinite possibilities such as animated cinema often ends up being the recipient of several of the most insipid works that we have seen in recent years, from studios such as Sony Pictures Animation or BlueSky being unable to break their monotonous styles visual (Although there are few exceptions and they are recognized: Spider-Verse to mention one of my favorite examples), even sequels without much sense that do not seek much more than to squeeze the success of their original works.
The case of The Addams Family 2 is not special just because it brings these two problems together, but because at the same time it builds on one of the most aesthetically and substantially iconic intellectual properties of all time, to deliver (Again) a painfully mediocre product. .
On the one hand I could try to calm him down and be positive, assessing whether I am being pretentious by attacking an innocent animated film that was looking for nothing more than what it offers: silly fun for the whole family. Honestly, I feel incapable of this, as The Addams Family 2 lacks any kind of recreational value or incentive to sustain its short duration.
But hey ... presented as a sequel to the already infamous 2019 film, which functioned simultaneously as a facelift for the franchise and an animated reboot, if in The Addams Family we had interesting ideas that worked in theory but failed to execute, The Addams Family 2 doesn't even get our attention on paper.
The meta-narrative elements that the first film attempted by contrasting the aesthetic language of the Addams family with the presence of the other characters that surrounded them are totally rejected based on an unfocused road-trip that wanders through various small plots, as if You'll forget what you really want to do when a disposable gag gets in the way.
Although the animation of each main character is very well done and the same can be said of the settings that inhabit them, the same does not extend to the secondary characters.
The cherry on the cake in this disaster is the overuse of popular music, breaking down the gothic atmosphere that is occasionally pleasantly constructed ... this coexists with a star-studded cast that seems to care more about the weight of their names than the adaptability they have with their roles.
The Addams Family 2 exists as a cluster of elements that seek to please everyone to end up ironically leaving everyone disappointed. It is not able to satisfy the fans of the original series and those who are younger have cooler alternatives to entertain themselves.
It is ironic that films like Hotel Transilvania (which seem to derive from the Addams) end up surpassing him.

Es curioso como un formato que nos presenta posibilidades infinitas como el cine animado muchas veces termina siendo el recipiente de varias de las obras más insípidas que hemos visto en los últimos años, desde estudios como Sony Pictures Animation o BlueSky siendo incapaces de romper sus monótonos estilos visuales (Aunque hayan contadas excepciones y se reconocen: Spider-Verse por mencionar uno de mis ejemplos favoritos), hasta secuelas sin mucho sentido que no buscan mucho más que exprimir el éxito de sus obras originarias.
El caso de The Addams Family 2 no es especial solo porque junta estos dos problemas, sino porque al mismo tiempo se crea sobre una de las propiedades intelectuales más icónicas estética y sustancialmente de todos los tiempos, para entregar (De nuevo) un producto dolorosamente mediocre.
Por un lado podría tratar de calmarle y ser positivo, evaluar si estoy siendo pretencioso al atacar una inocente película animada que no buscaba nada más de lo que ofrece: diversión tonta para toda la familia. La verdad, me siento incapaz de esto, ya que The Addams Family 2 carece de cualquier tipo de valor recreativo o incentivo que sustente su corta duración.
Pero bueno… presentada como una secuela al ya infame filme de 2019, que funcionaba simultáneamente como un lavado de cara para la franquicia y un reboot animado, si en The Addams Family teníamos ideas interesantes que funcionaban en teoría pero fracasaban en su ejecución, The Addams Family 2 ni siquiera logra captar nuestra atención en papel.
Los elementos meta-narrativos que intentaba el primer film contrastando el lenguaje estético de la familia Addams en con la presencia de los demás personajes que les rodeaban se rechazan totalmente en función de un road-trip sin enfoque que divaga por diversas tramas pequeñas, como si olvidara que quiere hacer realmente cuando un gag desechable se atraviesa en el camino.
Si bien la animación de cada personaje principal este muy bien hecha y lo mismo podemos decir de los escenarios que los habitan, lo mismo no se extiende a los personajes secundarios.
La cereza sobre el pastel en este desastre es el uso excesivo de música popular, quebrantando la atmósfera gótica que de vez en cuando se construye de forma agradable… esto coexiste con un cast plagado de estrellas que parece preocuparse más en el peso de sus nombres que la adaptabilidad que tienen con sus roles.
The Addams Family 2 existe como un cúmulo de elementos que buscan complacer a todo el mundo para terminar irónicamente dejándolos a todos decepcionados. No es capaz de satisfacer a los admiradores de la serie original y aquellos que sean más jóvenes tienen alternativas más frescas para entretenerse.
Resulta irónico que films como Hotel Transilvania (Que parecen derivar de los Addams) terminan superándole.
