I care A Lot is available on Netflix
I care a lot is one of those movies that I watched without many expectations in mind but that manage (surprisingly) to reconnect me with the reasons why I love cinema.
I have never been a connoisseur of the technical aspects of the medium, I understand and appreciate them but I am hardly the right person to say when something is correct and when it is not… the thing is that for me the important thing has always been the emotions and the ability of a film to convey them, especially when it comes to playing with out of the ordinary perspectives and points of view.
I Care a Lot is not only good for this, it is good because it knows how to play with many aspects that mainstream cinema does not usually dare to do, I Care a Lot is about arrogance, power dynamics and having to take a side between two equally terrible sides with nothing redeemable to make things easier for us.
With a very interesting premise where a legal guardian takes advantage of several wealthy elderly people to get hold of their assets, the passing of the minutes in I Care A Lot does nothing more than double the bet to put us in a conflictive situation.
Mixing drama with hints of black comedy, the film directed by J. Blakeson that stars Rosamund Pike (who had already shown a great level in Gone Girl by the excellent David Fincher) breaks schemes not so much from the structural point of view but from the emotional, resulting in a rollercoaster of chaos where we hardly empathize with one of the parties involved.
Although its neat visual presentation may give us the false impression of wanting to romanticize a world as cruel as the one in which these scams exist, each dialogue and event seems to be surgically set to create the opposite effect.
Pike perfectly channels the figure of the antihero, unapologetic about his baseness and having to deal with all the consequences of his actions, ranging from the slightly pretentious in her talking ways to the frustratingly perfect.
After being morally puzzled, we have nothing left but to appreciate everything else that accompanies the film, the great cast made up of: Peter Dinklage, Eiza Gonzalez and Chris Messina, as well as the impressive visual style that together with a good original soundtrack fills impact every necessary moment.
For me to speak of deep moral lessons in "I Care a Lot" is to look for something that the film has no intention of offering, here everything is about catharsis, being frustrated and draining it. It may fall into the fantasy side but that it does not spoil the purpose of the film.

I care a lot es una de esas películas que veo sin muchas expectativas en mente pero que logran (Sorpresivamente) reconectarme con las razones por las que amo el cine.
Nunca he sido un conocedor de los aspectos técnicos del medio, los entiendo y los aprecio pero difícilmente soy la persona indicada para decir cuando algo es correcto y cuando no… la cosa es que para mi lo importante siempre han sido las emociones y la capacidad de un filme para transmitirlas, especialmente cuando se trata de jugar con perspectivas y puntos de vista fuera de lo ordinario.
I Care a Lot no solo es buena por esto, es buena porque sabe jugar con muchos aspectos con los que el cine mainstream no se atreve usualmente, se trata de prepotencia, dinámicas de poder y tener que tomar un bando entre dos lados igualmente terribles con nada rescatable que nos facilite la cosa.
Con una premisa bastante interesante en donde una tutora legal se aprovecha de varios ancianos adinerados para hacerse con sus bienes, el transcurso de los minutos en I Care A Lot no hace más que doblar la apuesta para colocarnos en una situación conflictiva.
Mezclando drama con tintes de comedia negra, la cinta dirigida por J. Blakeson y protagonizada por Rosamund Pike (Que ya había demostrado muchísimo nivel en Gone Girl del excelentísimo David Fincher) rompe esquemas no tanto desde lo estructural sino desde lo emocional, resultando en una montaña rusa de caos en donde difícilmente empatizamos con una de las partes involucradas.
Aunque su pulcra presentación visual pueda darnos la falsa impresión de querer romantizar un mundo tan cruel como en el que existen estas estafas, cada diálogo y evento parece estar puesto quirúrgicamente para crear el efecto contrario.
Pike canaliza a la perfección la figura del antihéroe, sin disculparse por sus bajezas y teniendo que lidiar con todas las consecuencias de sus acciones, vagando desde lo ligeramente pretencioso hasta lo frustrante.
Tras quedar moralmente desconcertados, no nos queda otra cosa que apreciar todo lo demás que acompaña a la película, el genial cast conformado por: Peter Dinklage, Eiza Gonzalez y Chris Messina, así como el impactante estilo visual que junto a un buen original soundtrack llena de impacto cada momento necesario.
Para mi hablar de profundas lecciones morales en “I Care a Lot” es buscar algo que la película no tiene la mínima intención de ofrecer, aquí todo va sobre catarsis, frustrar y drenar. Quizá caiga en lo fantasioso pero no arruina el propósito de la obra.
