Me tomado una pequeña pausa con los estrenos en estos últimos meses y he querido revisar algunas películas que he dejado para ver en otro momento y algunos de estos films son del tipo independiente los cuales la mayoría siempre tiene muy buenas historias que pueden sorprender por bien hecho, es algo que siempre me ha gustado porque creo que están libres (en parte) de la presión de ser un obligado éxito, es por eso que decidí ver una película canadiense estrenada en octubre del año pasado que seguramente pasó muy desapercibida por muchos seguidores del cine.

I took a little break with the releases in these last few months and I wanted to review some films that I have left to see another time and some of these films are of the independent type which most always have very good stories that can surprise for well done, it is something that I have always liked because I think they are free (in part) from the pressure of being an obligatory hit, that is why I decided to see a Canadian film released in October last year that surely went very unnoticed by many film followers.
"The Kid Detective" relata la historia de Abe Applebaum, un detective de 32 años de edad que de niño fue muy famoso por resolver misterios en dónde estaban involucrados personas del pequeño pueblo donde vive, pero cuando ocurrir un grave crimen el cual nunca pudo ayudar a resolver, eso lo marcará acabando con toda su fama y volviendo en algo que nadie acepta, pero parece que la redención está cerca y eso es por otro grave crimen, uno que pondrá a prueba todo lo que él cree ser.
"The Kid Detective" tells the story of Abe Applebaum, a 32 year old detective who as a child was very famous for solving mysteries involving people from the small town where he lives, but when a serious crime occurs which he was never able to help solve, that will mark him ending all his fame and turning into something that no one accepts, but it seems that redemption is near and that is for another serious crime, one that will test everything he believes himself to be.
Este pequeño film tiene todo lo que espero en una historia en dónde se resuelve un misterio, comedia, suspenso y drama, esto último tiene un punto importante que es escondido por el humor usado por su director y guionista, Evan Morgan, justamente este film es su primer largometraje y para mí hace un buen trabajo, no tiene la necesidad de hacer grandes tomas al principio en dónde lo más importante creo que es la edición ya que entre las escenas del pasado de su protagonista y de cómo afectan su presente es algo muy bien hecho; creo que lo más destacable de su desempeño como director está en las escenas finales de este film, todo es completamente perfecto en cada una de sus tomas.
La historia es para mí lo mejor de este film, como dije antes tiene las características necesarias de un film en dónde resolver un misterio es la base de todo, no quiero hacer ningún spoiler, pero creo que un crimen no es lo que verdaderamente hay que resolver sino saber cuál es el verdadero tema de este film, esto es lo que creo que la hace un buen film ya que por un largo tiempo es predecible siguiendo una línea esperaba en esta clase de películas, pero cuando llega el momento importante cambia completamente revelando el verdadero tema en esta historia; Morgan hace un gran trabajo creando una historia llena de misterios que tal vez sean fáciles de resolver, pero como dije antes, el mejor misterio es el que debemos resolver los que somos espectadores de esta historia.
This little film has everything I expect in a story where a mystery is solved, comedy, suspense and drama, the latter has an important point that is hidden by the humor used by its director and screenwriter, Evan Morgan, just this film is his first feature film and for me he does a good job, he does not need to make big shots at the beginning where the most important thing I think is the editing because between the scenes of the past of its protagonist and how they affect his present is something very well done; I think the most remarkable of his performance as a director is in the final scenes of this film, everything is completely perfect in each of his shots.
The story is for me the best of this film, as I said before it has the necessary characteristics of a film where solving a mystery is the basis of everything, I don't want to make any spoiler, but I think that a crime is not what you really have to solve but to know what is the real theme of this film, this is what I think makes it a good film because for a long time it is predictable following a line expected in this kind of films, but when the important moment arrives it changes completely revealing the real theme in this story; Morgan does a great job creating a story full of mysteries that may be easy to solve, but as I said before, the best mystery is the one that we who are the spectators of this story must solve.
He visto el trabajo de Adam Brody en series de tv y alguna que otra película, creo que es de esos actores que siempre hacen al mismo personaje y temía de que está sería otra actuación igual a las anteriores, pero en realidad creo que a pesar de que en esta historia hay humor, creo que su desempeño es bueno, hay diálogos con humor, pero de un tono sarcástico y no es en todo momento y eso es algo que me pareció genial ya que demuestra porque este personaje es tal como es, uno que pasó a sentirse importante para un grupo de personas y que en un abrir y cerrar de ojos se volvió un completo perdedor que no le importa a nadie, todo eso lo transmite Brody en muy buena parte y mejor aún lo hace en el último acto del film; otro trabajo a resaltar es de Sophie Nélisse quien a pesar de que en algunas escenas pudo ser más dramática, creo que en realidad hace una representación de cómo es la actitud de esta generación, pero a pesar de eso, es un personaje inteligente, dulce, inocente.
I have seen the work of Adam Brody in TV series and some other movies, I think he is one of those actors who always play the same character and I was afraid that this would be another performance like the previous ones, but actually I think that although in this story there is humor, I think his performance is good, there are dialogues with humor, but of a sarcastic tone and it is not at all times and that is something that I thought was great because it shows why this character is the way he is, one who happened to feel important to a group of people and in the blink of an eye became a complete loser that no one cares about, all that is conveyed by Brody in a very good part and even better he does it in the last act of the film; another work to highlight is from Sophie Nélisse who although in some scenes could have been more dramatic, I think she actually makes a representation of how is the attitude of this generation, but despite that, she is an intelligent, sweet, innocent character.
Esta película no es famosa y eso es por su muy poca promoción, creo que esto es una lástima porque es muy buen film, que tenga lo necesario o lo esperado en este tipo de historias la hará llamativa para los fans del misterio y espero que entiendan que resolver el crimen no es lo que en realidad hay que descubrir sino en realidad de lo que se trata la película, las pistas son dadas en muchas escenas y eso hace que su acto final sea muy bueno, es más que una simple historia de un detective buscando redención al resolver un crimen, es una historia muy bien escrita en dónde (como ya he dicho) resaltó su último acto porque hay un gran cambio de todo lo que vamos viendo en esta historia; me gustaría ondear mucho más en todo lo que me pareció pero sería hacer spoiler y es lo que menos quiero hacer, es por eso que si quieren ver un film completamente desconocido para las masas entonces pueden ver "The Kid Detective".
This movie is not famous and that is because of its very little promotion, I think this is a pity because it is a very good film, that it has what is necessary or expected in this kind of stories will make it appealing to mystery fans and I hope they understand that solving the crime is not what you really have to discover but in fact what the movie is about, the clues are given in many scenes and that makes its final act very good, it is more than a simple story of a detective looking for redemption by solving a crime, it is a very well written story where (as I said) its last act stood out because there is a big change of everything we are seeing in this story; I would like to go much more into what I thought but it would be spoiler and that's the least I want to do, that's why if you want to see a film completely unknown to the masses then you can see "The Kid Detective".
