Halloween Kills - Film review [ESP/ENG]

The Boogeyman doesn't die and Halloween night isn't over.... "Halloween Kills."

In 2018 with the release of "Halloween" I felt it was a proper sequel for this story, just this film killed all sequels (and remakes) made, it erased things like Michael Myers is Laurie's brother and that Michael belongs to a cult, from the moment I had notion of this kind of decisions I thought it was a great idea, since it kept the essence of the main character of this story, which is to have the mystery about what motivates Michael to murder, but that was not the only thing I liked, since they brought back the great survivor, who gave more strength to the title "Final Girl", Laurie Strode, the evolution that this character had after experiencing a great trauma is tragic and at the same time strong, because it gave courage to overcome a great fear, but at the same time isolated her from the world; these characteristics are what made me enjoy this film and created great expectations for the two films that will close this Halloween story.

Halloween Kills | Official Trailer

"Halloween Kills" is one of the films I most wanted to see this year because of the delay of its release due to the appearance of Covid-19, that made me increase my expectations to see this story, I wanted to see how far I could get everything related to the slaughter caused by Myers and about a new confrontation against this new version of Laurie, I knew that the story could not evolve so much because in this sequel we will continue to see what happened on that fateful Halloween night in 2018, one where Myers decided to return to his home bringing back terror to the quiet inhabitants of Haddonfield, in this film there were still things to tell, there were still people to die, there was still a lot to see what Michael Myers is capable of doing.

For months while the release date of this film was approaching, I read different opinions of critics, for some it seemed a good sequel and for others they did not like it, of the unfavorable opinions I could read complaints about the large amount of violence and corpses that Michael left on his way, for me that was not bad, since we are referring first of all to a slasher film and second starring one of the most iconic characters in the horror genre; another criticism was regarding a social criticism which many critics related it immediately with the political situation that the American country lived with the previous president, I personally had to wait to see the film to understand that situation and to develop an opinion on whether those scenes or that part of the story could define this film as a very bad one, but before getting to that part I think it is better to refer to what I think completely about this sequel to Halloween.

"Kills" for me was a great sequel, I really liked how it pays tribute to many of the sequels that were made and also to the slasher genre, I think that shows respect for the director and screenwriters to what other colleagues did even if they had or not a great acceptance by the public, the other thing I like is the evolution that had in many of the scenes, the tension, suspense and violence of the scenes where Myers is involved are the best of the film, without any doubt, for me as a fan of this character I was satisfied, the unnaturalness of Michael's behavior is one of the things that I liked and I can even say that the vision of the character is the same that Carpenter had when he made the first film 43 years ago, but there is something that I liked more and that is the development of the other characters involved in this movie, I think that the screenwriters Teems, Mcbride and David Gordon Green who is the director, used these characters to deal with the issue of what motivates them in this story; I have always said that just this, the motive, is the most important thing that exists in Halloween, it is a blessing in his first film and has been a curse in the many sequels, finding a reason for Michael for who he is and what he does has been what has affected this franchise the most, I think that of everything they have invented perhaps in "H20" is the only sequel where they have done a better job, that's why I think that if there is a time to give a new twist to all this, it is in this second part of the new trilogy about Myers, I say this because precisely the obsession to know what Michael thinks, what motivates him, is what has triggered all this new story, as it is the main theme of the film released in 2018, now in this new film we observe the reason for the reaction of people who have grown up under the fear caused by their encounters with "The Boogeyman", but to be honest, we already saw this in the previous film, Laurie Strode is a woman who lived under the fear of meeting again with Michael, someone who could never have a normal life and precisely that fear is what affected her relationship with her family and friends, her motives driven by hate and fear transformed her into someone who cannot be reasoned with and we will see that again, but this time multiplied by a large number and not only that, but we will see the consequence of living with fear, with hate, withdrawn people who feel they have the power to end an evil that has lasted for a long time.

For how I have perceived this story where the only and main protagonist is Michael Myers I can say that I liked it, it is an atypical slasher where things happened that I always thought that could not happen in this type of stories, I celebrate that it keeps that feeling, that version of Myers, I celebrate that there is a new generation that now has to evolve in this story with new and serious traumas, but what I celebrate even more is that Michael Myers is kept because of how he is, the best character created for a slasher film, someone unique who can survive the time, ruthless and cold, is undoubtedly the best and his image in this film is the best I've seen, so I say and I maintain that this sequel is perfect, I can relate certain scenes to the political struggle that exists in America, here there is also and I can even relate to that, but I can not define that a film is bad to show how thin the line of stability, morality is for certain people and more when they believe they have the power to end evil; for all this described above Halloween Kills I consider it a good horror film, it met my expectations and increase to what will possibly be the last, I liked how it was made homage to everything that has driven and surrounded this franchise, I like the determination of all its protagonists and more I like that it is a correct sequel to what we saw in 2018 and more than anything to the first film released in 1978.
