Double ration of movies, two films that I saw a few weeks ago, but due to lack of time I had not been able to review each of them. The list of films accumulated to recommend to you keeps growing. That's why I make these posts where I can talk briefly about each of these productions. This time, they are two thrillers that are worth watching.

En esta ocasión, se trata de dos thrillers que merece la pena ser vistas.

Both films are independent productions with modest budgets, especially the first one you can tell it is made with little money, but it is the one with a very interesting plot that seeks to play with our mind.
Masquerade is written and directed by Shane Dax Taylor and features the famous singer and actress Bella Throne as the main character. I have no prejudice with her, some time ago I saw another movie where she is the protagonist and I liked it. Don't get carried away by the bad opinions, of course she is not a fantastic actress, but for this kind of movie, I think she fits perfectly.
Shane Dax Taylor already has extensive experience directing independent films, some of his previous works may not please many viewers, but I assure you that the film I am about to review, only lacked budget, because I thought his idea and execution was good.
The Boy behind the door is the first film written and directed by David Charbonier and Justin Powell. How did I come to it? I was about to see the film The Djinn, which is from this year, but I wanted to see who the director was and I found the names of these filmmakers, I searched on Google and it seemed to me that last year they had released this film, so I preferred to see their first big production.
That decision I made, to see their previous film first was the right one, because the filmmakers make a display of talent to create suspenseful scenes and a simple story, but skillfully structured to keep us in constant tension.
After this introduction about the directors of both movies, let's go directly to the plot of each one and my opinion, I will try to keep these two reviews as short as possible, I always overdo writing reviews and the posts are too long, I think that makes very few people read my posts, besides, at the time of writing this, I have an eye ache from staying up late last night and very hungry. Ambas películas son producciones independientes con presupuestos modestos, sobre todo la primera se nota que está hecha con poco dinero, pero es la que tiene una trama muy interesante que busca jugar con nuestra mente.
Masquerade está escrita y dirigida por Shane Dax Taylor y cuenta con la famosa cantante y actriz Bella Throne como protagonista. No tengo ningún prejuicio con ella, hace tiempo vi otra película donde es la protagonista y me gustó. No se dejen llevar por las malas opiniones, claro que no es una actriz fantástica, pero para este tipo de película, creo que encaja perfectamente.
Shane Dax Taylor ya tiene una amplia experiencia dirigiendo películas independientes, algunos de sus trabajos anteriores pueden no gustar a muchos espectadores, pero les aseguro que a la película que voy a reseñar, sólo le faltaba presupuesto, porque su idea y ejecución me parecieron buenas.

Estaba a punto de ver la película The Djinn, que es de este año, pero quería ver quién era el director y encontré los nombres de estos cineastas, busqué en Google y me pareció que el año pasado habían estrenado esta película, así que preferí ver su primera gran producción.

Después de esta introducción sobre los directores de ambas películas, vayamos directamente a la trama de cada una y a mi opinión, intentaré que estas dos críticas sean lo más cortas posible, siempre me excedo escribiendo críticas y los posts son demasiado largos, creo que eso hace que muy poca gente lea mis posts, además, a la hora de escribir esto, tengo dolor de ojos por haberme quedado despierto anoche hasta tarde y mucha hambre. What is the plot of Masquerade?
Olivia and Daniel are two millionaire art dealers, they have a life full of privileges and they are at a party they have organized for other millionaires. At their home, a mansion somewhat removed from the party, their daughter is in the care of the nanny. At the party, working as a waitress, is Rose, a beautiful young woman who does not take her eyes off the couple. Once the event is over, the couple must return home, but they have had too many alcoholic drinks and do not want to drive, so Rose takes the opportunity to offer them a ride home. Everything seems very suspicious, and soon we will discover that apparently something is going on, everything seems to be planned by Rose. It seems that she is part of a group of criminals who are breaking into the mansion to steal the valuable art paintings. But don't believe it, nothing is what it seems. Who are the thieves breaking into the mansion? Is Rose giving the orders? Is Rose a thief? What the hell is going on? Who is Rose and what is the reason for her actions? When it all comes out, you will be surprised.

Masquerade lacked the money to be a great thriller. You can tell it's made with very few resources, probably only a couple of weeks of shooting. Using few locations and a handful of actors. Nothing more is needed to tell us this story, which in the end will surprise you with a big revelation.
What a great plot twist! You may see it coming, at a certain point it becomes clear that what we are being told is not really what it seems. But that doesn't take away from the surprise effect, well executed, using the resources available to recreate that parallel setup.
I don't understand how there are such bad ratings about the film in those pages where the audience is the one who gives the ratings. The film is entertaining, doesn't overdo it in length, the story has intrigue, suspense and even plays with terror by subjecting a married couple and their daughter to a kidnapping inside the home.
I think many people just for seeing Bella Thorne on the poster, don't even see the movie and go directly to pages like IMDB or Rottentomatoes to vote negative and say they didn't like the movie. That usually happens, that's why I don't trust the scores given by the movie websites that exist on the internet, they seem to me inaccurate data, where the haters of an actor or director have a lot of influence.
Bella Thorne is a very beautiful actress and singer, what's the problem? It seems like the whole world is becoming Taliban. Instead of worrying about violence, wars and fighting terrorists who want to end the western world, they live in alarm and outrage because a famous girl is naked. Am I the one who is wrong? I don't think so.
Evaluating a film by external situations or factors, which have to do with the personal life of a director or an actress, is a serious mistake. We must stick to the story we are told.
Masquerade is a film worth seeing, but first we have to accept that it is remarkable that little money has been invested in the production, but the story and the way it is told, I think it is a good film. It's not going to be a film that's going to get a lot of play, but it's a standalone thriller that hooked me and I loved its denouement. Plus, I like Bella Thorne, so again, what's the big deal?

A Masquerade le faltó dinero para ser un gran thriller. Se nota que está hecha con muy pocos recursos, probablemente sólo un par de semanas de rodaje. Utilizando pocas localizaciones y un puñado de actores. No hace falta nada más para contarnos esta historia, que al final te sorprenderá con una gran revelación.
¡Qué gran giro argumental! Puede que lo veas venir, en cierto momento se hace evidente que lo que se nos cuenta no es realmente lo que parece. Pero eso no quita el efecto sorpresa, bien ejecutado, utilizando los recursos disponibles para recrear ese montaje paralelo.
No entiendo cómo hay tan malas puntuaciones sobre la película en esas páginas en las que el público es el que da las calificaciones. La película es entretenida, no se excede en la duración, la historia tiene intriga, suspense e incluso juega con el terror, al someter a un matrimonio y a su hija a un secuestro dentro del hogar.
Creo que mucha gente sólo por ver a Bella Thorne en el póster, ni siquiera ve la película y va directamente a páginas como IMDB o Rottentomatoes para votar negativamente y decir que no les ha gustado la película. Eso suele pasar, por eso no me fío de las puntuaciones que dan las webs de cine que existen en internet, me parecen datos inexactos, donde los haters de un actor o director tienen mucha influencia.
Bella Thorne es una actriz y cantante muy guapa, ¿cuál es el problema? Parece que el mundo entero se está convirtiendo en talibán. En lugar de preocuparse por la violencia, las guerras y la lucha contra los terroristas que quieren acabar con el mundo occidental, viven alarmados y escandalizados porque una chica famosa va desnuda. ¿Soy yo el que está equivocado? Creo que no.
Evaluar una película por situaciones o factores externos, que tienen que ver con la vida personal de un director o una actriz, es un grave error. Hay que atenerse a la historia que se nos cuenta.
Masquerade es una película que vale la pena ver, pero primero hay que aceptar que es notable que se haya invertido poco dinero en la producción, pero la historia y la forma en que está contada, creo que es una buena película. No será una película que vaya a dar mucho juego, pero es un thriller independiente que me enganchó y me encantó su desenlace. Además, me gusta Bella Thorne, así que repito ¿cuál es el problema?

What is the plot of The Boy Behind the Door?
Bobby and Kevin are boys who play at a campsite near a forest, where they go to spend the afternoons, to get away from the routine of the town where they live. They seem to be very good friends. The ball they are playing with falls in the woods and Kevin goes to look for it, but Bobby is quickly alarmed because Kevin doesn't come back. He starts looking for him and suddenly gets hit on the head. Someone unknown has kidnapped them, gagged them and stuffed them in the trunk of a car. After a long journey, the car arrives home, far away from the city. Kevin is taken out of the trunk and locked in a room. Bobby manages to escape without being noticed, but after running away, he stops and instead of going to the police, he decides to go back to free his friend. Who is the person who has kidnapped them? What do they plan to do with Kevin? Is it a network of pedophiles or murderers? Will Bobby manage to save Kevin? Or will they both die in that hellish house?

The Boy behind the door is another independent production, but this one had a little more money for its production. This one has in common with Masquerade is that it uses few actors and a couple of locations, but if we compare them, it is a far superior film and I think most of the audience will like it.*
I already commented at the beginning what I thought of this film, both filmmakers have left me amazed with the skill with which they handle the horror/suspense genre, making me stay glued to the couch, not wanting to miss any detail of the story and see how those kids got out of that terrifying place.
The horror is the kind that really scares me. I mean, there are no ghosts, no haunted houses, no killers from beyond the grave. The story focuses on a network of pedophiles who kidnap children for their nefarious purposes and how the bravery of one of them, leads to a terrible sequence of events, where death and the struggle for survival is paramount.
It is also a film with better character development, feeling sympathy for the two protagonist boys, who are friends. It is precisely that bond of friendship that makes one of them overcome fear and decide not to leave his companion behind, venturing back into the abyss of hell, in an adventure where any mistake will be fatal.
There is a surprise plot twist, because some things are also not what they seem. When it is revealed who is the person who runs that house of horrors. I liked that detail, because I did not expect it, and it gives more excitement to the story, because from that moment, the violence is increasing, until it reaches a somewhat predictable outcome, but the journey to that point has been good, so I was satisfied.
The Boy behind the door has a great performance by two boys who do very well and I hope it doesn't happen to them like many other child stars, who disappear or languish in the Hollywood industry. Lonnie Chavis and Ezra Dewey come out triumphant not only within the story, but also as talented actors. They manage to convey innocence and a beautiful friendship, which will get them over the hurdles and out of hell.

The Boy behind the door es otra producción independiente, pero esta contó con un poco más de dinero para su producción. Esta tiene en común con Masquerade es que utiliza pocos actores y un par de localizaciones, pero si las comparamos, es una película muy superior y creo que gustará a la mayoría del público.
Ya comenté al principio lo que me pareció esta película, ambos cineastas me han dejado asombrado con la habilidad con la que manejan el género de terror/suspense, haciendo que me quedara pegado al sofá, sin querer perderme ningún detalle de la historia y ver cómo salían esos niños de ese terrorífico lugar.
El terror es de los que realmente me asustan. Es decir, no hay fantasmas, ni casas encantadas, ni asesinos que vengan de ultratumba. La historia se centra en una red de pederastas que secuestran niños para sus viles fines y cómo la valentía de uno de ellos, da lugar a una terrible secuencia de acontecimientos, donde la muerte y la lucha por la supervivencia es primordial.
También es una película con un mejor desarrollo de los personajes, sintiendo simpatía por los dos chicos protagonistas, que son amigos. Es precisamente ese vínculo de amistad el que hace que uno de ellos supere el miedo y decida no dejar atrás a su compañero, aventurándose de nuevo en el abismo del infierno, en una aventura donde cualquier error será fatal.
Hay un giro argumental sorpresa, porque hay cosas que tampoco son lo que parecen. Cuando se revela quién es la persona que dirige esa casa de los horrores. Me ha gustado ese detalle, porque no me lo esperaba, y le da más emoción a la historia, porque a partir de ese momento, la violencia va en aumento, hasta llegar a un desenlace un tanto previsible, pero el recorrido hasta ese punto ha sido bueno, por lo que he quedado satisfecho.
The Boy behind the door tiene una gran actuación de dos chicos que lo hacen muy bien y espero que no les pase como a muchas otras estrellas infantiles, que desaparecen o languidecen en la industria de Hollywood. Lonnie Chavis y Ezra Dewey salen triunfantes no sólo dentro de la historia, sino también como actores con talento. Consiguen transmitir la inocencia y una hermosa amistad, que les hará superar los obstáculos y salir del infierno.

These are the two movies I recommend today, you can watch it next weekend. Depending on the country you live in, look for the streaming service where they are available. I liked both movies, but maybe you only like one and you think the other is absolute garbage. It depends on taste, but I'm open to debate and you can let me know your impressions when you see both films.

Estas son las dos películas que recomiendo hoy, pueden verla el próximo fin de semana. Dependiendo del país en el que vivas, busca el servicio de streaming donde estén disponibles. A mí me gustaron las dos películas, pero a lo mejor sólo te gusta una y la otra te parece una absoluta basura. Depende de los gustos, pero estoy abierto al debate y puedes hacerme saber tus impresiones cuando veas ambas películas.
