The miniseries is an adaptation of the novel Gone for Good by American writer Harlan Coben. A few months ago I told you about this author who already has several adaptations and projects done on the Netflix platform.
It was when I did my review on another miniseries, which adapted a book by the author, the Spanish miniseries El Inocente, starring Marios Casas. Now, I will review and give my opinion on the adaptation of another of his novels, a French production.
As its original source is a novel by Harlan Coben, it is difficult not to make comparisons with The Innocent, because this other story has many similar elements, which are very recurrent in the novelist, who likes to create complex plots and give many unexpected twists.
Therefore, the story will show us events that span a period of ten years, constant flashbacks and where nothing is what it seems. A web of lies, characters that apparently are not connected and several sub plots whose origin is in the tragic events of the protagonist's past.

The screenwriters in charge of the adaptation are David Elkaïm, Pauline Guéna, Nacim Mehtar and Vincent Poymiro. David and Poymiro are also the creators and direct the episodes along with Juan Carlos Medina. The creators, according to what I have been able to see on IMDB, have a background in television, series, mini series and TV movies, with this mini series being the most important so far in their entire career.

La miniserie es una adaptación de la novela Gone for Good del escritor estadounidense Harlan Coben. Hace unos meses les hablé de este autor que ya tiene varias adaptaciones y proyectos realizados en la plataforma Netflix.
Fue cuando hice mi reseña sobre otra miniserie, que adaptaba un libro del autor, la miniserie española El Inocente, protagonizada por Marios Casas. Ahora, revisaré y daré mi opinión sobre la adaptación de otra de sus novelas, una producción francesa.
Como su fuente original es una novela de Harlan Coben, es difícil no hacer comparaciones con El Inocente, porque esta otra historia tiene muchos elementos similares, que son muy recurrentes en el novelista, al que le gusta crear tramas complejas y dar muchos giros inesperados.
Por ello, la historia nos mostrará acontecimientos que abarcan un periodo de diez años, flashbacks constantes y donde nada es lo que parece. Una red de mentiras, personajes que aparentemente no están conectados y varias sub tramas cuyo origen está en los trágicos sucesos del pasado del protagonista.

What is the plot of Disparu à jamais?
Ten years ago, Guillaume Lucchessi saw his older brother, Fred Lucchesi, being chased and killed by Ostertag, a criminal friend of his brother. Apparently, that same night, Ostertag also murdered his former girlfriend, a beautiful young woman who lives next door and whom his younger sister, Ines, finds floating in the pool. Today, Guillaume is a social worker helping immigrants and addicts, and is in a two-year relationship with Judith, a co-worker he loves. After the death of his mother from cancer, Guillaume decides to propose to Judith, but that same day she says she has to go to work and disappears. Guillaume will ask for help to his boss, Daco, who has problems with his girlfriend who has become pregnant and has a secret he hides from the past. They both try to find Judith, but everything gets complicated when the police tell Guillaume that in Nice his girlfriend's fingerprints have been found in a place where two criminals have been found dead. Hace diez años, Guillaume Lucchessi vio cómo su hermano mayor, Fred Lucchesi, era perseguido y asesinado por Ostertag, un criminal amigo de su hermano. My opinion
A woman who apparently has a normal life and is happy with her partner suddenly disappears. A similar beginning to that of the miniseries El Inocente. A disappearance that uncovers a large trunk full of secrets, which will cause impact in each episode.
It is the novelist's style, so you will find similarities with his previous adapted works. There are also many surprising twists. I already told you when I reviewed the Spanish miniseries, that I was exhausted with the story, there were so many plot twists, that there comes a time when my brain had to pause, to assimilate everything.
With this miniseries, I didn't end up exhausted, because the rhythm is different. The Spanish one was directed by a filmmaker who also likes to add tension and plot twists that generate impact. In contrast, this French production maintains a balance between tense and emotional moments, to let the story rest a bit.
I liked that, but at the same time I think this kind of story deserves to be told at a frenetic pace that doesn't let us leave our seats. I think it lacked a little more audacity, to generate impressive sequences. The directors opted for the more emotional terrain, especially in the final part, when all the secrets are revealed and the important revelations of the past will make Guillaume make a tough decision.
There is a subplot that seemed unnecessary to me, surely it is included in the original novel, but it does not really contribute anything important to the central story, having the function of creating suspicions in one of the characters and lengthen the story a little more.
Composed of five episodes, each one with the name of the characters and developing the particular plots, which then form the general story. Guillaume, Nora, Ines, Deco, Fred. With the protagonists of this convoluted story, the use of flashbacks is abused.
I have nothing against flashbacks, I love them when they are used well, I have said it many times, of course the plot needs to explain us many things from the past, but it was too much, at every episode and every instant we jump different years of the past and then back to the present. This overwhelmed me a bit, because there are things that could have been told in one long flashback.
Telling a story that is too fragmented has its pros and cons, I like plots that make me think and put the pieces of the puzzle together, but I understand that there are other viewers who can't stand these constant jumps in time that are presented to us.
Mi opinón
Una mujer que aparentemente tiene una vida normal y es feliz con su pareja desaparece de repente. Un comienzo similar al de la miniserie El Inocente. Una desaparición que destapa un gran baúl lleno de secretos, que causará impacto en cada episodio.
Es el estilo del novelista, por lo que encontrará similitudes con sus anteriores obras adaptadas. También hay muchos giros sorprendentes. Ya les dije cuando hice la reseña de la mini serie española, que yo quede agotado con la historia, había tantos giros argumentales, que llega un momento en que mi cerebro tenía que hacer una pausa, para asimilar todo.
Con esta miniserie, no terminé agotado, porque el ritmo es diferente. La española estaba dirigida por un cineasta al que también le gusta añadir tensión y giros argumentales que generen impacto. Por el contrario, esta producción francesa mantiene un equilibrio entre los momentos de tensión y los emotivos, para dejar descansar un poco la historia.
Eso me ha gustado, pero al mismo tiempo creo que este tipo de historias merecen ser contadas con un ritmo frenético, que no nos deje levantarnos del asiento. Creo que faltó un poco más de audacia, para generar secuencias impresionantes. Los directores optaron por el terreno más emocional, sobre todo en la parte final, cuando se desvelan todos los secretos y las importantes revelaciones del pasado harán que Guillaume tome una dura decisión.
Hay una subtrama que me pareció innecesaria, seguramente está incluida en la novela original, pero realmente no aporta nada importante a la historia central, teniendo la función de crear sospechas en uno de los personajes y alargar un poco más la historia.
Compuesta por cinco episodios, cada uno con el nombre de los personajes y desarrollando las tramas particulares, que luego forman la historia general. Guillaume, Nora, Ines, Deco, Fred. Con los protagonistas de esta enrevesada historia se abusa del uso de flashbacks.
No tengo nada en contra de los flashbacks, me encantan cuando se usan bien, lo he dicho muchas veces, por supuesto que la trama necesita explicarnos muchas cosas del pasado, pero fue demasiado, a cada episodio y a cada instante saltamos diferentes años del pasado y luego volvemos al presente. Esto me agobió un poco, porque hay cosas que se podrían haber contado en un solo flashback largo.
Contar una historia demasiado fragmentada tiene sus pros y sus contras, me gustan las tramas que me hacen pensar y unir las piezas del puzzle, pero entiendo que hay otros espectadores que no soporten estos constantes saltos en el tiempo que se nos presentan.
As in other of his adaptations, there is a tragic event from the past that haunts the protagonist, a woman who disappears, criminal networks, prostitution, people who have many secrets and others who are not who they say they really are. It is an explosive cocktail to which they add the social component, with the mafias within the immigrant neighborhoods, neo-Nazi criminals and drug trafficking.
There is a bit of everything in the miniseries, but the topics are not dealt with in a lurid way or looking for the morbid curiosity of the viewer. That's why I repeat that the creators lacked a little more daring, it is a very juicy material to dig into the darker side of society.
The tragedy experienced by the characters is the most important thing for the creators. They are all mired in the tragedy of their past lives. Guillaume tries to find redemption by doing social work, for not having done anything to save his brother or his ex-girlfriend. Daco also seeks redemption for the horrible things he did when he lived in Nice, for which he went to jail. Judith, seems to escape from a past that no one knows anything about and Ines wants to overcome the death of her sister, of whom she has visions, plus their physical resemblance is incredible and she is attracted to Guillaume.
They are all unfortunate beings, who seem to live in a universe of perennial suffering. Even Fred, who abandoned his career as a professional tennis player to become a drug dealer, associates with Kesler, the son of a rich man, and Ostertag, a hard man who is the presumed murderer.
Como en otras de sus adaptaciones, hay un suceso trágico del pasado que persigue al protagonista, una mujer que desaparece, redes criminales, prostitución, personas que tienen muchos secretos y otras que no son quienes dicen ser realmente. Es un cóctel explosivo al que añaden el componente social, con las mafias dentro de los barrios de inmigrantes, los criminales neonazis y el tráfico de drogas.
Hay un poco de todo en la miniserie, pero los temas no se tratan de forma escabrosa ni buscando la curiosidad morbosa del espectador. Por eso repito que a los creadores les faltó un poco más de atrevimiento, es un material muy jugoso para escarbar en el lado más oscuro de la sociedad.
La tragedia que viven los personajes es lo más importante para los creadores. Todos ellos están sumidos en la tragedia de sus vidas pasadas. Guillaume intenta encontrar la redención haciendo trabajos sociales, por no haber hecho nada para salvar a su hermano o a su ex novia. Daco también busca redención por las cosas horribles que hizo cuando vivía en Niza, por las que fue a la cárcel. Judith, parece escapar de un pasado del que nadie sabe nada e Inés quiere superar la muerte de su hermana, de la que tiene visiones, además su parecido físico es increíble y se siente atraída por Guillaume.
Todos ellos son seres desafortunados, que parecen vivir en un universo de sufrimiento perenne. Incluso Fred, que abandonó su carrera de tenista profesional para convertirse en traficante de drogas, se asocia con Kesler, el hijo de un hombre rico, y con Ostertag, un hombre duro que es el presunto asesino.
Why was Fred killed? It is a question whose answer will cause a great surprise to the viewer. Because everything will be related to the events of 10 years ago, that tragic night, which marked the lives of Guillaume and Ines. He lost his older brother, and she also lost her sister. All this mystery will be deeply related to Judith's disappearance. Who is behind all this? What really happened that fateful night ten years ago?
Although we should not trust any of the characters, because any of them could be behind some kind of revenge. The directors know how to keep the viewer attentive to each new clue, to each new plot twist, while we try to give coherence to all the information that does not come. Although in the fourth episode we already have clear many unknowns, it is not until the last chapter, when the whole mystery is revealed, discovering the motives and the culprits of all this accumulation of tragedies.
The characters suffer so much that even in the final sequence, which should bring some happiness, is a waste of tears, I think they have gone too far with the emotional part. After a lifetime of suffering, they deserved a nice moment. But everything is to cause emotion in the viewer.
What I found a bit forced is the transformation of Guillaume, a kind of social worker, who after the disappearance of the woman he loves, his detective skills are activated, he even gets into a security agency and gets to fight with a group of strong men, trained for hand-to-hand combat. I understand that Daco might have those skills, since he has a dark past, but Guillaume has always been a coward. The entrance to that security firm seemed implausible to me.
Also the strange presence of Ostergat , as if he were a character from a medieval novel, with a black hood that always appears at certain times. Although in the end his attitude and what he is looking for is justified, it is the fantastic way in which he follows the protagonist, which caused me some amusement.
Is it worth it? Yes, the miniseries is gripping and I love these stories. Deaths and mysteries to be solved are among my favorite themes and being an adaptation of a novel by a successful writer whose style is one of those who manage to catch the reader. It seems to me a good adaptation, now you decide, if you watch the mini series or decide to look for the book and read it.
¿Por qué fue asesinado Fred? Es una pregunta cuya respuesta causará una gran sorpresa al espectador. Porque todo estará relacionado con los acontecimientos de hace 10 años, aquella trágica noche, que marcó las vidas de Guillaume e Ines. Él perdió a su hermano mayor, y ella también a su hermana. Todo este misterio estará profundamente relacionado con la desaparición de Judith. ¿Quién está detrás de todo esto? ¿Qué ocurrió realmente aquella fatídica noche de hace diez años?
Aunque no debemos confiar en ninguno de los personajes, porque cualquiera de ellos podría estar detrás de algún tipo de venganza. Los directores saben mantener al espectador atento a cada nueva pista, a cada nuevo giro argumental, mientras intentamos dar coherencia a toda la información que no llega. Aunque en el cuarto episodio ya tenemos claras muchas incógnitas, no es hasta el último capítulo, cuando se desvela todo el misterio, descubriendo los motivos y los culpables de todo este cúmulo de tragedias.
Los personajes sufren tanto que incluso en la secuencia final, que debería aportar algo de felicidad, es un derroche de lágrimas, creo que se han pasado con la parte emocional. Después de toda una vida de sufrimiento, se merecían un momento bonito. Pero todo es para causar emoción en el espectador.
Lo que me ha parecido un poco forzado es la transformación de Guillaume, un tipo de trabajador social, que tras la desaparición de la mujer que ama, se activan sus dotes detectivescas, incluso se introduce en una agencia de seguridad y llega a pelear con un grupo de hombres fuertes, entrenados para el combate cuerpo a cuerpo. Entiendo que Daco pueda tener esas habilidades, ya que tiene un pasado oscuro, pero Guillaume siempre ha sido un cobarde. La entrada a esa empresa de seguridad me pareció inverosímil.
También la extraña presencia de Ostergat , como si fuera un personaje de una novela medieval, con una capucha negra que siempre aparece en determinados momentos. Aunque al final su actitud y lo que busca está justificado, es la forma fantástica en que sigue al protagonista, lo que me causó cierta gracia.
¿Merece la pena? Sí, la miniserie es apasionante y me encantan estas historias. Las muertes y los misterios por resolver están entre mis temas favoritos y siendo una adaptación de una novela de un escritor de éxito cuyo estilo es de los que consiguen atrapar al lector. Me parece una buena adaptación, ahora tú decides, si ves la mini serie o decides buscar el libro y leerlo.

Finnegan Oldfield plays Guillaume. His life has been a tragedy for 10 years, when his brother and ex-girlfriend were murdered. What happened that night, he himself doesn't seem to know much. He dedicates his life to social work, as a way to find peace. But I already told you that everyone here is doomed to suffer like a Latin American soap opera protagonist, so his mother died of cancer, his father has almost senile dementia and his current girlfriend disappears, discovering horrible things about his past. The actor does an acceptable job, he is 30 years old, but looks a bit younger.
Nicolas Duvauchelle plays Fred, the black sheep of the family. His father wants him to be a great tennis player, but he wants to do things that make him easy money. That's why he gets into drug dealing, getting into trouble that will lead him to that fatal night ten years ago, in which the neighbor, his younger brother's ex-girlfriend and he will die. I remember this actor from the excellent French police series Braquo, which was compared to the American series The Shield. I have also seen him recently in the movie A Mermaid in Paris.
Guillaume Gouix plays Daco, Guillaume and Judith's boss at the center that serves immigrants. His partner is of immigrant descent and is pregnant, so he distances himself from her because there is something from his past that he won't forgive himself. A dark secret that no one close to him knows and so he runs that help center, trying to find spiritual forgiveness for what he did. The actor is great in his character, he is a French actor that I have seen in many other productions.
Garance Marillier plays two characters, first Sonia, the one who is killed in the first episode and then Ines, the younger sister who must overcome the trauma of her sister's death. Another character full of suffering and who hopes to find peace, freeing herself from all the weight she has been carrying for ten years. Her character is small and perhaps lacked more relevance in the story, but I loved watching this actress, whom I follow since she starred in Julia Ducournau's Raw.
Nailia Harzoune plays Judith, Guillaume's girlfriend who works in the same social care center. It is she who disappears triggering the whole story, we will see how she met the protagonist and all the past she has kept hidden.
The Icelandic actor Tómas Lemarquis plays Ostertag, that strange character who apparently killed Sonia and Fred, but there are things that we will not know until the last moment, of what happened the night of the deaths. This actor has participated in the X Men franchise, in the Blade Runner sequel and other productions, he has a very particular physique, special for playing disturbing characters.
These are the most important characters and the respective actors who play them, you can realize that it is a very solid cast, excellent talents that make a very exciting and complex story.

El actor está genial en su personaje, es un actor francés que he visto en muchas otras producciones.

Nailia Harzoune interpreta a Judith, la novia de Guillaume que trabaja en el mismo centro de atención social. Es ella quien desaparece desencadenando toda la historia, veremos cómo conoció al protagonista y todo el pasado que ha mantenido oculto.
El actor islandés Tómas Lemarquis interpreta a Ostertag, ese extraño personaje que aparentemente mató a Sonia y a Fred, pero hay cosas que no sabremos hasta el último momento, de lo que ocurrió la noche de las muertes. Este actor ha participado en la franquicia de X Men, en la secuela de Blade Runner y otras producciones, tiene un físico muy particular, especial para interpretar a personajes inquietantes.
Estos son los personajes más importantes y los respectivos actores que los interpretan, puedes darte cuenta que es un elenco muy sólido, excelentes talentos que hacen una historia muy emocionante y compleja.
Disparu à jamais (in English titled Gone For Goood) seems to me a good adaptation of another Harlan Coben story. The intrigue, mystery and twists, several per episode, will keep you restless, trying to discover the whole truth and what the events of the past have to do with what happens to Guillaume in the present. An agglomeration of characters marked by the misfortunes of destiny, each one running away from the mistakes of the past, but this one comes with a lot of strength, ready to sweep and do justice.
It is the mini series that I recommend watching this weekend, there are only five episodes and they are available on Netflix.

Disparu à jamais (en inglés titulada Gone For Goood) me parece una buena adaptación de otra historia de Harlan Coben. La intriga, el misterio y los giros, varios por episodio, te mantendrán inquieto, intentando descubrir toda la verdad y qué tienen que ver los hechos del pasado con lo que le ocurre a Guillaume en el presente. Una aglomeración de personajes marcados por las desgracias del destino, cada uno huyendo de los errores del pasado, pero éste viene con mucha fuerza, dispuesto a arrasar y hacer justicia.
Es la mini serie que recomiendo ver este fin de semana, solo son cinco episodios y están disponibles en Netflix.
