Greetings, citizens of this hive. I'm excited because this is my first post in the "Movie and TV Shows" community. This time I won't be doing a revew of any premiere, I will be sharing my impressions and thoughts on Luca, Pixar's most recent feature film.
I am a mother of two children and watching movies as a family is one of the activities we enjoy the most at home. Also, I must say that I am a fan of Pixar movies, I think more than my boys. We recently saw this magnificent movie and besides enjoying it a lot, it left me reflecting on a few things that I will try to share with you in this post.
Saludos, habitantes de esta colmena. Estoy emocionada porque este es mi primer post en la comunidad de “Movie and TV Shows”. En esta oportunidad no haré un revew de ningún estreno, compartiré mis impresiones y mis reflexiones sobre Luca, el más reciente largometraje de Pixar.
Soy madre de dos niños y ver películas en familia es una de las actividades que más disfrutamos en casa. Además, debo decir que soy fan de las pelis de Pixar, creo que más que mis chamos. Hace poco vimos esta magnífica película y además de disfrutarla mucho, me dejó reflexionando sobre unas cuantas cosas que intentaré compartir con ustedes en esta publicación.
Luca, Enrico Casarosa's debut feature film, released in June 2021, tells the story of a boy who loves his family and his home, but wants to know what lies beyond the boundaries of what is allowed by his parents and his society. Its protagonist, Luca, is a marine being, a thirteen year old triton, who all his life has done what he is supposed to do. Until one day he wonders what lies beyond, is it as bad as they tell me? And that urge to discover the forbidden is stronger than all the prejudices he has been taught all his life about that other world inhabited by two-legged monsters with hair on their bodies. He wants to be free to decide what to do with his life, even if his parents don't understand him.
However, the fear of the unknown paralyzes him and that is where Alberto appears, another newt, a little older than Luca, who lives outside the water, has no family to tell him what to do and lives as he wants. Alberto constantly pushes Luca to dare to do what he wants. For Luca, Alberto and his life are fascinating. He has everything under control, he knows what he wants and does what he has to do to get it, he leads a placid and happy life, without a family to pressure and control him. Although soon Luca will learn that not everything is what it seems, both will complement each other to realize their dreams, consolidating a beautiful and powerful friendship.
When they arrive in town they meet Giulia, a girl who has been teased and criticized for being different, however Giulia does not sit back, she is not a simple victim, she is confident and brave, she faces her problems and makes herself respected. When Giulia, Luca and Alberto meet, they form a magnificent trio of "relegados" ready for anything. However, Luca and Alberto are weird, but they are not really aware of it, while Giulia is and she assumes it with courage.
Personally I loved Giulia's character, I felt completely identified. Giulia is the daughter of separated parents, she does not fit the stereotype of a little girl with bows and skirts, she rides a bike, competes with boys, faces abuse, defends the underdog, is weird and hangs out with the weird and is proud of it. The taunts and hurtful comments from others only make her more courageous to be authentic. Being in front of that character, for me, was like seeing a tender portrait of my childhood. Among other things, I remembered my racing bike with which on more than one occasion I beat the boys on the block at the races.
Luca, la ópera prima de Enrico Casarosa, estrenada en junio de 2021, nos relata la experiencia de un niño que ama a su familia y su hogar, pero que desea conocer qué hay más allá de las fronteras de lo permitido por sus padres y por su sociedad. Su protagonista, Luca, es un ser marino, un tritón de trece años, que toda su vida ha hecho lo que se supone debe hacer. Hasta que un día se pregunta ¿Qué habrá más allá? ¿Será tan malo como me dicen?. Y ese impulso por descubrir lo prohibido es más fuerte que todos los prejuicios que le han inculcado, durante toda su vida, con respecto a aquel otro mundo donde habitan monstruos de dos patas y con pelo en el cuerpo. Él desea ser libre para decidir qué hacer con su vida, aun cuando sus padres no lo comprendan.
Sin embargo, el temor a lo desconocido lo paraliza y es allí donde aparece Alberto, otro tritón, un poco mayor que Luca, que vive afuera del agua, no tiene familia que le diga qué hacer y vive como quiere. Alberto constantemente impulsa a Luca a atreverse a hacer lo que desea. Para Luca, Alberto y su vida son fascinantes. Lo tiene todo bajo control, sabe lo que quiere y hace lo que tiene que hacer para conseguirlo, lleva una vida plácida y feliz, sin una familia que lo presione y lo controle. Aunque pronto Luca aprenderá que no todo es lo que parece, ambos se complementarán para realizar sus sueños, consolidando una bonita y poderosa amistad.
Al llegar al pueblo conocen Giulia, una niña que ha sufrido burlas y críticas por ser diferente, sin embargo Giulia no se cruza de brazos, no es una simple víctima, es segura y valiente, enfrenta sus problemas y se hace respetar. Cuando Giulia, Luca y Alberto se conocen conforman un magnífico trío de “relegados” dispuestos a todo. Sin embargo Luca y Alberto son raros, pero no tienen real conciencia de ello, en cambio Giulia si y lo asume con entereza.
En lo personal amé el personaje de Giulia, me sentí plenamente identificada. Giulia es hija de padres separados, no se ajusta al estereotipo de niñita con lacitos y faldas, ella monta una bici, compite con niños varones, se enfrenta al abuso, defiende al desvalido, es rara y se junta con los raros y está orgullosa de eso. Las burlas y comentarios hirientes de otros solo la hacen tener más valor para ser auténtica. Estar ante ese personaje, para mí, fue como ver un retrato tierno de mi infancia. Entre otras cosas, recordé mi bici de carrera con la que en más de una oportunidad le gané a las carreras a los chicos de la cuadra.
Luca, Alberto and Giulia have a dream and they are determined to fight for it. Luca wants to be free and see the world. Alberto wants a motorcycle to travel to other places. Giulia wants to win the annual town race to prove her courage and teach the town bully a lesson. They team up and form a team because, as Giulia says, "underdogs help each other." However, neither Giulia nor anyone else in town knows that Alberto and Luca are the "sea monsters" they fear and persecute so much. What would happen if they were discovered?
Who hasn't dreamed of other landscapes, new experiences, new horizons? Or simply, who has not thought, at some time, of changing the order of things? Trying to change something that we consider unjust? Growing up is always a bit like that, the change, the moving, the movement, coming out of the shell. It happens in adolescence and it happens in other moments of our lives, sometimes we have to open ourselves to the unknown despite what they tell us. This film, precisely, is a hymn to friendship and the adventure of growing up. Above all, it is an invitation to dare to be different no matter what society says.
But it is also a fable about discrimination, exclusion and the prejudices that accompany them. Prejudices such as fear of the unknown, fear of the other for being different. Newts are considered "Monsters" and are persecuted and hunted, even though they do not harm anyone (or at least that is not what the story tells us), they are just different. On the other hand, humans are also considered bloodthirsty "Monsters" by tritons and sea creatures.
Somehow, in this story, apart from the thematic about friendship, change and growth, we can also see the metaphor of the excluded. In the subtext we can see the marginalized in a society full of prejudices against what is different, whether we are talking about the immigrant, the poor, the homosexual or the one who simply does not follow the stereotypes.
For Luca's mother, all humans represent a danger from which she wants to keep her son safe. For the fishermen of the village all these sea creatures are fearsome monsters to be hunted. Generalization is the garnish for this cocktail of prejudices in which there is no middle ground. However, if we pay attention to the film we will discover, at some point, those nuances that tell us that not everything is black and white, there are newts living among humans and there are humans who accept that coexistence, but, unfortunately, on the sly. Only a brave gesture like the one shown by this trio of misfits will make it possible for these two worlds to recognize each other in their right dimension. Will they finally learn to live together in harmony? Will Luca, Alberto and Giulia manage to make their dreams come true? Will this friendship last beyond this magical summer?
Luca, Alberto y Giulia tienen un sueño y están decididos a luchar por él. Luca quiere ser libre y conocer el mundo. Alberto quiere una moto para viajar a otros lugares. Giulia quiere ganar la carrera Anual del pueblo para demostrar su valor y darle una lección al bravucón del pueblo. Se unen y forman un equipo porque, como dice Giulia, “los relegados se ayudan”. Sin embargo, ni Giulia ni nadie en el pueblo saben que Alberto y Luca son los “monstruos marinos” que tanto temen y persiguen. ¿Qué pasaría si los descubren?
¿A quién no le sucedió en algún momento que el entorno cotidiano se le hizo angosto? ¿Quién no soñó con otros paisajes, nuevas experiencias nuevos horizontes? O sencillamente ¿Quién no pensó, alguna vez, en cambiar el orden de las cosas? ¿Tratar de cambiar algo que consideramos injusto? Crecer siempre es un poco eso, el cambio, la mudanza, el movimiento, salir del cascarón. Pasa en la adolescencia y pasa en otros momentos de nuestra vida, a veces nos toca abrirnos a lo desconocido a pesar de lo que nos digan. Esta película, precisamente, es un canto a la amistad y a la aventura de crecer. Sobre todo es una invitación a atreverse a ser distinto sin importar lo que diga la sociedad.
Pero también es una fábula sobre la discriminación, la exclusión y los prejuicios que las acompañan. Prejuicios como el miedo a lo desconocido, el miedo al otro por ser diferente. Los tritones son considerados “Monstruos” y son perseguidos y cazados, a pesar de que no le hacen daño a nadie (o por lo menos eso no nos lo cuenta la historia), solo son diferentes. Por otro lado, los seres humanos también son considerados “Monstruos” sanguinarios por los tritones y seres marinos.
De alguna forma, en esta historia, aparte de la temática sobre la amistad, el cambio y el crecimiento, también podemos ver la metáfora del excluido. En el sub texto podemos ver al marginado en una sociedad llena de prejuicios ante lo distinto, bien si habláramos del inmigrante, del pobre, del homosexual o del que simplemente no sigue los estereotipos.
Para la madre de Luca todos los humanos representan un peligro del que quiere mantener a salvo a su hijo. Para los pescadores del pueblo todos estos seres marinos son temibles monstruos que hay que cazar. La generalización es el aderezo para ese cóctel de prejuicios en el cual no hay términos medios. Sin embargo, si prestamos atención a la película descubriremos, en algún momento, esos matices que nos dicen que no todo es blanco y negro, hay tritones conviviendo entre los humanos y hay humanos que aceptan esa convivencia, pero, lamentablemente, a escondidas. Solo un gesto valiente como el que demostrará este trío de desadaptados hará posible que estos dos mundos se reconozcan mutuamente en su justa dimensión. ¿Aprenderán a convivir en armonía finalmente? ¿Luca, Alberto y Giulia conseguirán hacer realidad sus sueños? ¿Perdurará esta amistad más allá de este mágico verano?
If you have children you can't miss this beautiful movie and if you don't, you can't miss it either. Either way it will make you spend a very pleasant time, probably remembering some anecdote from your childhood or adolescence. It will make you enjoy a quick trip to the Italian Riviera at no cost. It will delight you visually, because of the magnificent stroke, light and colorful drawings; but it will also delight you aurally because of the soundtrack and the typical Italian musicality that is divinely represented here. It will make you laugh and cry. And in short, as I say about this kind of film, it is one of those films that reconcile you with humanity.

Si tienes hijos no puedes dejar de ver juntos esta hermosa película y si no los tienes tampoco te la puedes perder. De cualquier forma te hará pasar un rato muy agradable, probablemente recordando alguna anécdota de tu infancia o tu adolescencia. Te hará disfrutar de un rápido viaje a la Riviera italiana sin costo alguno. Te deleitará visualmente, por el magnífico trazo, luz y colorido de sus dibujos; pero también te deleitará auditivamente por la banda sonora y la musicalidad típica de lo italiano que aquí se representa divinamente. Te hará reír y llorar. Y en resumidas cuentas, como digo yo ante este tipo de film, es una de esas películas que te reconcilian con la humanidad.
