Hi Hivers! I'm happy to be here again, it's been almost 2 months of interacting in the community and I feel more committed than ever with the growth of Hive. I like to share and enjoy what I'm doing, that's why I've taken the time to upload content that truly represents me. That's why following the celebration of the gayest month of the year, I want to present you the review of a series that in my opinion should be included in the list of the best series of 2021 when this year ends.
It took me months to watch it, first because it was released on a UK channel and second because it took a few months for the content to reach me. So many months of waiting, hours of downloading for the lousy internet in the country to finally get to see the first chapter, has been worth the wait. I have devoured the series little by little like a reptile that wants to eat its prey slowly, because I knew I was going to find a lot of art, but I had fallen short.
Pandemics are not something new to mankind, but there was one in particular that affected mainly a historically rejected minority. It was the 80's, a strange disease began to spread among homosexuals in the United States, a strange cancer seemed to diminish the lives of dozens of people. The government's response was not to give it much importance, something similar to what happened to us with the covid pandemic. Denialism has hurt us as much or more than diseases throughout history, but not as much as the fear that infections give us even though we are incapable of being good hosts of our desolate planet.
AIDS ended up costing the lives of millions of homosexuals across the globe, and every day new research came to light with new discoveries. At the beginning nobody knew how it was transmitted, the only certainty at that time was that the disease was a punishment for the sins of homosexuals. But as time went by, heterosexuals also became ill, HIV was a common enemy and governments around the world began to create awareness campaigns, but it was too late. We still haven't learned enough about how to deal with these diseases.
Figures like Lady Diana normalized a disease from which its victims never escaped the grim fate that awaited them. With time, information and medication made this punishment more bearable, turning it into a chronic disease that does not kill as much as ignorance and fear. But I will tell you no more and let's discover this wonderful series exported from British lands.

Hola Hivers! Estoy feliz de estar por acá de nuevo, ya son casi 2 meses de estar interactuando en la comunidad y me siento más comprometido que nunca con el crecimiento de Hive. Me gusta compartir y disfrutar de lo que estoy haciendo, es por eso que me he tomado el tiempo de subir contenido que verdaderamente me represente. Es por eso que siguiendo con la celebración del mes más gay del año, quiero presentarles la reseña de una serie que a mí parecer debería estar incluida en la lista de las mejores series del 2021 cuando esté año culmine.
Tarde meses en poder verla, primero porque fue estrenada en un canal de Reino Unido y segundo porque tuvieron que pasar unos meses para que el contenido llegará a mí. Tantos meses de espera, horas de descarga por el pésimo internet del país para por fin llegar a ver el primer capítulo, ha valido la pena la espera. Me he devorado la serie poco a poco como un reptil que quiere comerse a su presa lentamente, porque sabía que me iba a encontrar con mucho arte, pero me había quedado corto.
Las Pandemias no son algo nuevo para la humanidad, pero hubo una en particular que afectó principalmente a una minoría históricamente rechadada. Transcurría la década de los 80, una extraña enfermedad comenzaba extenderse por los homosexuales de Estados Unidos, un extraño cáncer parecia mermar la vida de decenas de personas. La respuesta del gobierno fue no darle tanta importancia, algo similar a lo nos pasó con la pandemia del covid. El negacionismo nos ha hecho tanto o más daño que las enfermedades a lo largo de la historia, pero no tanto como el miedo que nos dan las infecciones aunque seamos incapaces de ser buenos huéspedes de nuestro desolado planeta.
El SIDA termino costando la vida millones de homosexuales a lo largo y ancho del globo terráqueo, cada día salían a la luz nuevas investigaciones plagadas de nuevos descubrimientos. Al principio nadie sabía cómo se transmitía, lo único seguro en esa época era que dicha enfermedad era un castigo por los pecados de los homosexuales. Pero con el tiempo personas heterosexuales también se enfermeraron, el VIH era un enemigo común y los gobiernos del mundo comenzaron a crear campañas de concientización pero ya era demasiado tarde. Todavía no hemos aprendido lo suficiente acerca de cómo lidiar con estas enfermedades.
Figuras como Lady Diana normalizaron una enfermedad de la cual sus víctimas nunca lograban escapar del nefasto destino que les aguardaba. Con el tiempo la información y los medicamentos hicieron de este castigo uno más llevadero convirtiéndola en una enfermedad crónica que no mata tanto como la ignorancia y el miedo. Pero no les cuento más y vamos a descubrir esta maravillosa serie exportada desde tierras britanicas.

It's a Sin is a British series premiered in 2021 by Channel 4 written and produced by Russell T Davies, produced by Peter Hoar with the support of Red Production Company, the story is based on the author's experience as a survivor of a generation devastated by AIDS. The series has 1 season of 5 episodes of approximately 42 to 50 minutes and starred Olly Alexander, Omari Douglas, Callum Scott Howells, Lydia West, Neil Patrick Harris, Nathaniel Curtis and David Carlyle among others.
The series is set in the city of London in the 80's and the cinematography was in charge of Mattias Nyberg. The soundtrack was full of hits of the era and other songs performed by the protagonist Olly Alexander who is a member of the band Years & Years.

In the narrow corridors of a London apartment called the Pink Palace a group of friends start a new life in the capital of the United Kingdom. Ritchie, a young actor who disappoints his parents by changing his career as a lawyer for that of an artist, on the other hand there is the aspiring tailor Colin (Callum Scott Howells) a shy boy who does not fit the gay stereotype, Ritchie's friend and fellow university student Jill (Lydia West) a girl who appears to be a seemingly asexual girl, quite concerned about her friends, Roscoe (Omari Douglas), a bright young man who has escaped from a rigid, traditional Nigerian family, Gregory Finch (David Carlyle) a busboy and Ash (Nathaniel Curtis) the great love of Ritchie's life.
After a lifetime in the closet, these young men finally have the opportunity to sleep with whomever they want, party on, go wherever they want, be whoever they want to be. Why should they stop now? But over the course of five episodes spanning the 1980s, Ritchie and his friends will learn the hard way that AIDS can't be ignored and that if you're careless you'll be part of a genocide list in virus form.

En los estrechos pasillos de un piso londinense llamado el Palacio Rosa un grupo de amigos comienzan una nueva vida en la capital del Reino Unido. Ritchie, es un joven actor que decepciona a sus padres cambiando su carrera como abogado por la de ser artista, por otro lado están el aspirante a sastre Colin (Callum Scott Howells) un chico tímido que no encaja en el estereotipo gay, la amiga de Ritchie y compañera de la universidad, Jill (Lydia West) una chica al parecer asexual, bastante preocupada por sus amigos, Roscoe (Omari Douglas), un brillante joven que ha escapado de una familia rígida y tradicional nigeriana, Gregory Finch (David Carlyle) un ayudante de un bus y Ash (Nathaniel Curtis) el gran amor de la vida de Ritchie.
Después de toda una vida en el armario, estos jóvenes tienen por fin la oportunidad de acostarse con quien quieran, salir de fiesta en fiesta, ir donde quieran, ser quienes quieran ser. ¿Por qué deberían parar ahora? Pero a lo largo de cinco episodios que abarcan la década de 1980, Ritchie y sus amigos aprenderán por las malas que el SIDA no puede ser ignorado y que si te descuidas serás parte de la lista de un genocidio en forma de virus.

The first thing I read about this series is that Russell T. Davies was the creator, a familiar name to me as throughout his career, the Welsh screenwriter has focused his attention on LGBTIQ+ characters and communities, even before these stories became a normal theme in today's productions. His success began in 1999, with the iconic Queer As Folk series. And while sexuality may not be the central theme of Years & Years, another 2019 Davies series that managed to outdo the dystopia of Black Mirror, it is part of a tapestry that also includes extremism, immigration and the threat of nuclear war as major themes, but Davies had never until now touched on a subject that many still dare not touch: the AIDS crisis, a turning point in LGBTIQ+ history that the 57-year-old writer lived through in full.... It's a Sin, however, didn't have it so easy. It was rejected by almost all the TV networks that refused to deal with such a tough subject even though British society is known to be open, it's not so open after all. But Channel 4 rescued the story and it was a success reaching record ratings in the UK.
The story is quite interesting at the beginning it exhibits a festive atmosphere that is diluted as the series unfolds. Ritchie, the character played by Olly Alexander, starts out as a naysayer and sleeps with any man who appears to him, before the concern of his friend Jill, they all begin to become aware of a reality that they saw as alien to them. Little by little the director immerses you in a labyrinth that intertwines the stories of each of the characters, most of them people rejected by their families and society, but all of them find a place in this endearing apartment.
Perhaps the most painful part of the series is to see how everyone is a victim of AIDS and its consequences. In the beginning AIDS patients were isolated and condemned to die in solitude, something similar to what happened last year with the Covid-19 pandemic. Each episode's ending is a hard blow to your heart as if the author wanted to keep you on edge in a story that needed nothing to keep you gripped.

Lo primero que leí acerca de esta serie es que Russell T. Davies era el creador, un nombre familiar para mí ya que a lo largo de su carrera, el guionista galés ha centrado su atención en los personajes y las comunidades LGBTIQ+, incluso antes de que estas historias se convirtieran en un tema normal en las producciones de hoy en día. Su éxito comenzó en 1999, con la icónica serie Queer As Folk. Y aunque la sexualidad no sea el tema central de Years & Years, otra serie de Davies de 2019 que consiguió superar la distopía de Black Mirror, forma parte de un tapiz que también incluye el extremismo, la inmigración y la amenaza de una guerra nuclear como temas principales, pero Davies nunca había tocado hasta ahora un tema que todavía muchos no se atreven a tocar: la crisis del SIDA, un punto de inflexión en la historia LGBTIQ+ que el escritor de 57 años vivió en su totalidad.. Sin embargo, It's a Sin, no la tuvo tan fácil fue rechazada de casi todas las cadenas de televisión que se negaron a tratar un tema tan duro a pesar de que la sociedad británica es conocida por ser abierta, no lo es tanto después de todo. Pero Channel 4 rescató la historia y fue un éxito alcanzando récords de audiencia en el Reino Unido.
La historia es bastante interesante al principio exhibe un ambiente festivo que se va diluyendo a medida que la serie se desarrolla. Ritchie el personaje que interpreta Olly Alexander comienza siendo un negacionista y se acuesta con cuanto hombre se le aparece, ante la preocupación de su amiga Jill todos comenzaran a tomar conciencia de una realidad que veían ajena a ellos. Poco a poco el director te va sumergiendo en un laberinto que entrelaza las historias de cada uno de los personajes en su mayoría personas rechazadas por su familia y la sociedad eso si todos encuentran un lugar en ese entrañable piso.
Quizás lo más duele de la serie es ver como todos son víctimas del SIDA y sus consecuencias. En un principio los enfermos de SIDA eran aislados y condenados a morir en la soledad algo similar a lo que paso el año pasado con la pandemia del Covid-19. Cada final de episodio es un golpe duro a tu corazón como si el autor quisiera mantenerte en vilo en una historia que no necesitaba nada para mantenerte atrapado.
The characters become endearing from Ritchie's friend Jill a very creative and concerned young woman to the illness of her friends to the smallest character, there is no filler to be had in such a well rounded story. The music, the sets, the performances all blend together to create an unforgettable piece that shines brightly.
No one in the series is blamed for AIDS, everyone is equally vulnerable. From the young man who has not had sex and still ends up dying to the one who slept with half of London, they are just as much victims, just a single contact is enough for the enemy to enter your body and destroy your immune system. That seems to me as relevant as the story itself, since it is a story based on Davis' memories, it is fascinating to think that they all existed.
In the end the series becomes a legal battle to let them see their friends dying of AIDS, their families have cut off contact and condemned their loved ones to death just because of the shame. Each parent present, from the one who is tolerant of homosexuality to the one who seems unaware of their child's life, manages to move you with heartbreaking sentiment. It took years but it is no longer a condemnation to be HIV positive although there is still a long way to go in a society that still fears a perfectly designed killer like this.
Los personajes se vuelven entrañables desde la amiga de Ritchie Jill una joven muy creativa y preocupada por la enfermedad de sus amigos hasta el personaje más pequeño, no hay relleno que valga en una historia tan redonda. La música, los escenarios, las actuaciones todo se mezcla para crear una pieza inolvidable que brilla con luz propia.
No se culpa a nadie en la serie por el SIDA, todos son igual de vulnerables. Desde el joven que no ha tenido sexo y termina igual muriendo hasta aquel que se acostó con medio Londres son igual de Victimas solo basta un solo contacto para que el enemigo entre a tu cuerpo y destruya tu sistema inmune. Eso me parece tan relevante como la historia misma ya que al ser una historia basada en las memorias de Davis, resulta fascinante pensar que todos existieron.
Al final la serie se convierte en una batalla legal para que dejen ver a sus amigos muriendo de SIDA, sus familias han cortado el contacto y han condenado a sus seres queridos a la muerte solo por la vergüenza. Cada padre presente desde el que es tolerante con la homosexualidad hasta el que parece desconocer la vida de su hijo, te logra conmover con un sentimiento desgarrador. Tuvieron que pasar años pero ya no sea una condena ser VIH positivo aunque todavía falta mucho por hacer en una sociedad que todavía le teme a un asesino perfectamente diseñado como este.
Where the series shines the most is when its protagonists bring out their feelings, they are not afraid to support each other, no one is defeated, everyone fights to the end. Because AIDS can kill the body but not your legacy. I was sad to think of the lives of all those people who died in solitude in some pandemic, it is all the fault of man and his irresponsibility with wildlife.
I can only recommend this series, it is a sin not to watch it. It is for all audiences despite its sex scenes, it has everything drama, comedy and lots of fun and of course my score is 10/10.
Donde más logra brillar la serie es cuando sus protagonistas sacan sus sentimientos, no temen a brindarse apoyo unos con otros, nadie sale derrotado todos luchan hasta el final. Porque el SIDA puede matar el cuerpo pero no tu legado. Quede triste al pensar en la vida de todas esas personas que murieron en la soledad en alguna pandemia, todo es culpa del hombre y su irresponsabilidad con la vida silvestre.
No me queda más que recomendarles esta serie, es un pecado no verla. Es para todo público a pesar de sus escenas de sexo, lo tiene todo drama, comedia y mucha diversión y por supuesto mi puntuación es 10/10.
