This film was recently released and since it looked fun I decided to give it a watch. It is a bit shorter than most films since it only lasts 1 hour and 23 minutes but the story is well-developed and they didn't leave anything out.
It is a thriller mostly and there are some attempts at comedy but unfortunately, it didn't make me laugh. The type of comedy they try to implement was similar to the one we can find in the Fargo movie/series. It actually reminded me a lot of the last Fargo series I watched because the story takes place in a small town that’s going through an intense winter. Unlike Fargo, which does have good comedic dialogues, this film is much less efficient in their use of funny lines.
The story isn't innovative, there are a series of gruesome murders that appear to have been committed by some kind of beast. There are never witnesses and no DNA left in the scene that can be linked to a person, only animal DNA. New murders keep happening and always after a full moon, which makes a lot of people start to consider explanations based on well-known mythology myths.
This causes a lot of nervousness in the people and frustration in the main police officer which causes his stress to increase to dangerous levels and only solving these murders would allow him to regain some peace and stop yelling like a maniac.
At the beginning of the film, we can see the actor Jimmy Tatro who actually began his career as a Youtuber and I remember discovering his channel several years ago where he uploaded his fun short vids. Maybe it is because of the fact I have known him from Youtube, but in this film, I was able to see through his acting and sadly, his performance wasn't very convincing. The worst part is when he begins to cry next to his mom and that was one hell of a fake cry, seconds later his face is all normal with no tears anywhere.
The main character, who is a police officer, is played by Jim Cummings who is also the writer and director of the film. His performance as a cop was OK but the use of constant yelling from his character in what I believe was his attempt to be funny was overused and ultimately, not funny at all. At least for me. I just can't recall any funny scene or dialogue in the entire movie and this is supposed to be a horror-comedy production.
The film doesn't have anything special but it is not boring. It can easily entertain someone who is just looking to have some fun watching a not too important flick. It shows blood and some of the victim's bodies are slightly glimpsed at but there is no gore or anything disgusting.
The best
- The film can be enjoyable if the viewer doesn't expect anything great but just a fun little flick to spend some time.
The worst
- The film doesn't have anything original.
- It is not funny nor scary.
