Fungi Friday - Suburban Mushrooms

Here are a few evening finds I got on my walk to the store in my suburban town for this #fungifriday

Right as I stepped out the door there was a tree well with loads of these pleated ink caps growing in the soil.

It had been raining most of the day and these little guys must have sprung up this morning.

Pleated ink caps generally only last around a day. They spring up fast then start drying up and turn to a black dust.

Farther down the sidewalk on the way to the store I saw this stump in someone's yard full of ink caps.

It was already turning dark at this point so I had to hit them with the flash.

On my way back home I noticed a couple mushrooms in the dark in someone's nicely mowed lawn.

I suspect these might be Marasmius oreades also known as fairy ring mushrooms. In theory these are edible but only if they have a white spore print. There are also some deadly lookalikes and given that these mushrooms don't have a unique or interesting taste I would just avoid attempting to eat these.

Meanwhile back home my cayenne pepper plant pot keeps growing Leucocoprinus birnbaumii aka flower pot mushrooms. Too bad these are slightly toxic and will give you stomach aches.

My peppers are all starting to turn red. This plant has produced quite a few spicy peppers.

That's all for now, fortunately the rain has started again so hopefully I can find some nice fall edible mushrooms. Thanks for looking :-)
